Based on enough research and data, some policy changes can be made and go into full effect immediately. Such as some misconduct issues committed such as drug dealing, stealing evidence such as drugs, or money etc. should be treated as any citizen that committed those crimes. They should be arrested and charged. This would not necessarily apply to excessive force charges while in the line of duty as those are automatically investigated and appropriate action is taken. It is not to say that a criminal or those that engage in criminal activity does not have a biblical perspective or that they do not believe in God or the Bible, it could be that temptation over took there since of right and wrong. Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil” (Holy Bible ESV). One should try to seek help if they know their fellow officer is in trouble or doing things that are morally and ethically wrong, they should join in with them or encourage them that is the acceptable path to take or the way to do things because they can get away with it. 1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” (Holy Bible, ESV). Building policy from a Biblical foundation will complement the sworn duties that every officer took an oath to uphold and adhere to. James 4:17 “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin” (Holy Bible ESV), if they are given and taught the tools they will not only do honor to themselves, their department, their public but also to their God. There is still a lot of research to be done on this topic and data to be collected, there is ample amount of ways that this can be done whether it is done by surveys, in house research, face to face or any one of the many other options that are available, it should be done. The results should be reviewed and changes made in the areas where current policies are not working in a manner befitting a police officer or their department. Getting the public involved with doing surveys about what they see as problems can also be beneficial. As in recent events to where the public has been very outraged and outspoken about police using excessive force, and the public feeling that justice does not apply to them getting their opinions on what they are seeing or perceiving and letting them know their voices are being heard will in the long run help to mend the broken trust that the public has been
