Biblical Errancy
People for years have been debating against each other to prove the Bible to be inherent or to be errant. Errancy is a deviation from the truth or what is right. There are many different types of errors expressed throughout the Bible such as transational errors, doctrinal errors and contradictions. How could any book be without error? That would be practically impossible, so in this paper I will prove the Bible to be very errant because of many facts shown.
First, I am going to talk about one of the most important concepts in Christianity, original sin, which is the belief that all mankind has inherited a sinful nature brought about by Adam and Eve. In Romans 5:12 it says, “ Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Which means that since Adam sinned everybody else who lives on this Earth has sinned, because of him. Also, in Romans 5:19 it states, “For as one man’s disobedience many were made sinners…,” and in 1 Corinthians 15:22 it says, “For as in Adam all die,…” No reasoning can make an inherently unjust idea seem right. Punishing billions of people for the acts of one is not only inherently unfair; but also opposes other Bible verses such as: Deut. 24:16 “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers every man shall be put to death for his own sin.” That verse says that you won’t be punished for somebody else’s sin. Also in Ezek. 18:20 states, “ The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.” That verse also says that when you sin you will be the one punished, not somebody else for your sin. Original sin makes as much since as if I was sitting at home one evening and the police came over and arrested me because my aunt from Germany robbed a bank.
Here is a very clear contradiction. This concerns whether God repents or not. Num. 23:19 “ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent.
The Bible is read and interpreted by many people all over the world. Regardless, no one knows the absolute truth behind scripture. Walter Brueggemann, professor of Old Testament, wrote “Biblical Authority” to help people understand what he describes as six different parts that make up the foundation to ones understanding of scripture. He defines these six features as being: inherency, interpretation, imagination, ideology, inspiration, and importance. As Brueggemann explains each individual part, it is easy to see that they are all interconnected because no one can practice one facet without involuntarily practicing at least one other part.
Sometimes we can not always give what they deserve but, giving them less than what they deserve is unfair. The bible believes in an eye for an eye. Meaning you can kill someone who has killed. I believe in punishing murders and they should get nothing less than what they deserve, but an eye for an eye, to me, is not always the correct punishment. I am in favor of proportional retributivism because it allows flexibility within a range of murder cases. It would allow a more heinous murderer to receive the death penalty and a less severe murder criminal to receive life in prison without violating

Romans 1: 18-23 talks about why the human race is guilty before God: demonstrations of our ungodliness and unrighteousness. Let’s start by looking at verse 18b. “Against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, suppress the truth in unrighteousness,” each verse has one or two key words, and those words are ungodliness, and unrighteousness. Ungodliness refers to man’s offenses against God, and unrighteousness refers to the sins of man against man. These two words give us the reasons why we are guilty before God. We can’t say that we aren’t guilty because we know we are, it clearly says ALL are ungodly and ALL are unrighteous. Another important thing to point out is that no one can suppress the truth. Mankind does suppress the truth of God.
This extreme penalty was instituted by God subsequent the flood of Noah. According to Genesis 9:5-6, God says, "From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his image. "This is restated in the Ten Commandments, where God mandates, "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13) .Romans 13:1-4 says, "Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. 3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil." In regards to Romans 13:1-4, a Christian is clearly taught to be in subjection to the governing authorities. This is a provision for harmony. The evidence states that the bible clearly states that if you take ones life, yours should be taken. This is stated abundantly throughout the bible therefore christian doctrine supports that the death penalty is a necessary

For centuries now Christians have claimed to possess the special revelation of an omnipotent, loving Deity who is sovereign over all of His creation. The historical reliability of the Bible is the first matter that needs to be discussed. There are three criteria that the military historian C. Sanders lists as principles for documentary historical proof: the bibliographical test, internal evidence test, and the external evidence test (McDowell 43). First I will give you a background of exegesis. Webster's New World Dictionary(1990), defines exegesis as, the interpretation of a word, passage, etc., esp. in the Bible. This definition is a worldly. To understand the true meaning and background I looked in John H. Hays book called, Biblical Exegesis, for the answer. He says that the term "exegesis" itself comes from the Greek word exegeomai which basically meant " to lead out of." When applied to texts, it denoted the " reading out" of the meaning. The noun, therefore, could refer to "interpretation" or " explanation." Thus whenever we read a text or hear a statement which we seek to understand and interpret, we are involved in exegesis.

Because Adam and Eve took of the forbidden fruit, sin and all kinds of evil were unleashed into the world. This sin is what separates men and women from the relationships that God intended them to have, not only with him, but all those around us (Jenson, 2016, p. 75). In this event, humanity was buried with Christ so that each person could live a new life that is radically different from their old self (Romans 6:4). That is to say, though each person is born into sin, they have the opportunity to live a life free from sin through believing in this story, that Jesus was crucified, yet was raised from the dead in order that humanity can live a new life in honor of Him.
