In The Last of the Mohicans, by James Cooper, the author highlights the relationships Chingachgook and Colonol Munro have with their respective children. These relationships compare and differ in several ways, ultimately leading to the demise of the central romance. Colonel Munro is the father of Cora and Alice, and Chingachgook, is the father of Uncas. Both fathers care greatly for their children, but the way they have raised them is quite different. To begin, Chingachgook, is the father of the last member of the Mohican tribe, Uncas. Both have grown up in the forest and are very spiritual and tradition-driven. They both have a respect for nature, and understand that there is a balance in the forest that must be kept. Chingachgook
wants only what is best for his son, and when he finds out that Uncas loves Cora; he puts his opinions aside and supports his son's romantic decision, despite it breaking tradition and customs. Meanwhile, Monro is a British Colonel that has a sense of respect and class about himself and his daughters. While he loves both of his daughters, he shows a slight bias to Cora, as her mother was part “negro”. It is evident that Monro strongly opposes interracial mingling and marriage. Magua actually uses this disapproval to his advantage, as he knows that marrying Cora would bring Monroe great shame. He is not as hands-on with his daughters. The war preoccupies him with its issues. Perhaps it is for this reason he never finds out about Cora’s love interest until the end when he will eventually learns that Cora is dead. Cora's actions are only a reflection of his own, being that he had an interracial relationship himself years ago. Unfortunately he pushes his own guilt and disapproval onto his daughter. Both fathers want what is best for their son and daughter's wellbeing, but go about it very differently. Ultimately it is Chingachgook that oversees Cora and Uncas Being buried side by side, showing his acceptance of their love. Meanwhile Munro goes back to the fort with his existing racist notions. In conclusion, the book “The Last Of The Mohicans” is another tale about star-crossed lovers, doomed from the start meeting tragic ends. Their fathers will remember them and what they believed in, their fears, they’re hopes, and they’re dreams.

Rountree starts the book by "setting the scene," she introduces the Indians and attempts to explain the complexities of the Powhatan society. This may be the hardest part of the book for most readers to follow, because the system of leadership and the leadership line is quite complicated. It is explained the Powhatan, the king of the Powhatan people, ascended to the throne through a matrilineal system, Powhatan being his mothers oldest son would rule first, then his next brother and so on. Once his mother had no more sons to rule leadership would be passed on to the son of his mothers eldest daughter, and so on. This system, while difficult to understand is easily justified; a man could possibly have two children at the same instant but no matter what a woman can only have one child at a time.
According to Tyler Troudt once said, “The past cannot be changed forgotten to edit or erased it can only be accepted.” In the book The Lakota Way, it is talking about all the old stories that no one talks about anymore. Some of the stories are about respect, honor, love, sacrifice, truth, bravery. Joseph M. Marshall III wrote this story so that young adults around the world and mainly the Lakota people know their culture, so they knew all the stories about the people long ago. What the author is writing about is all information that today’s generation will never know about the stories because most of the elder that even knew or know the stories have passed away or the young people just are not interested in listening to them anymore.

Zitkala-Sa was extremely passionate with her native background, and she was adamant on preserving her heritage. When Zitkala was a young girl, she attended White’s Manual Labor Institute, where she was immersed in a different way of life that was completely foreign and unjust to her. And this new way of life that the white settlers imposed on their home land made it extremely difficult for Native Americans to thrive and continue with their own culture. In Zitkala’s book American Indian Stories, Legends, and Other Writings, she uses traditional and personal Native stories to help shape her activism towards equality amongst these new settlers. Zitkala’s main life goal was to liberate her people and help

The story of Custer’s Last Stand, formally known as “The Battle of Little Big Horn”(25 June 1876), is one that many would consider a legendary tale of gallantry amongst heroic Cavalry Soldiers gloriously fighting against all odds in the face of certain death, until the last bullet fired atop the hill that is now known as Custer’s Last Stand. Regardless of the mythical inspirational value that it provides to Soldiers aspiring to one day also become legendary heroes, from a military perspective, it also teaches us from the unforgiving realities of battle that re-emphasize the importance of tactical knowledge and it’s adequate application. Within my analysis, I will first explain the historical situation during the Western Expansion, the higher commander’s plan and intent for the operation, LTC Custer’s actions on the objective, resulted conclusion of the battle based on his actions, and the significance of this battle that stemmed in terms of tactical lessons learned.

While all four of these articles had their own unique knowledge and points of view, the one that I found to be most stimulating was that of the Selections on the Iroquois. After reading this particular article, I found myself drawing many similarities to many of the same things I took away after reading Deloria’s Sacred Places and Moral Responsibilities article. I think that both these selections are rooted from the same underlying message, respect for the environments and surrounding lands. While the Sacred Places and Moral Responsibilities reading revolved more around this idea of certain territories’ being considered holy for the Hopi people, the Selections on the Iroquois embodies many of these same environmental similarities. For instance, on page 4 we are presented with the value to which the tree bark means to the overall function and construction of the
