Berghaus’ Case Study
1) Berghaus is very successful business having an annual growth rate
of 25%. This indicates that there is an increasing demand for their
products. They also have an export ratio of 50% meaning that their
distribution rates are very good. Last year alone their per-tax
profits were £750,000 and a large amount of this money can, most
probably, will be reinvested into the company for further development.
Also, its pre-tax profits in 1991 were £750,000 which is obviously not
a small amount, Berghaus clearly mean business. By the sound of it,
that number is only expected to increase in the years to come. It has
an export ratio of 1988-9 of more than 50%, which is the vast
majority, within the whole of Europe, meaning that its export
increased by a great deal during those years specifically, and we
assume it still increases in other years too, although maybe not as
much as between 1988-9.
2) In the context of Berghaus, market differences mean many things.
Berghaus currently conduct sales through large number of countries,
from Germany through the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and as a
result Berghaus have found out that the world cannot be treated as
though as one market. Each country has its own customer preferences
and may have certain social attitudes to a certain type of clothing,
and these are known as market differences. Due to this Berghaus has to
develop a certain product for a specific country and then modify that
product or completely reconstruct it for another country. This as a
result means higher costs are involved in research and development and
also different advertising methods would have to be implemented. This
market difference has meant Berghaus have had to operate quickly and
efficiently to design, produce and distribute the product across all
the parts of the world, beating all opposition and this is obviously
very difficult for Berghaus.
3) There are many different reasons for the success of Berghaus, and
these can be mainly divided into four parts, Production, Finance,
Marketing and Management.
Production is simply the fundamental part of the company, without it
no product would exist to sell. Designing new products is what makes
people want a certain product and Berghaus have strategically produced
a wide range of products meaning that they will be able to
successfully cover the different fields in the market. This means that
they have more areas for money coming; by having more units and
product innovation is an essential key t their success. Production has
also been economised by the introduction automated production with
continual processes. This allows an easy and flexible method to
Marvin Pickering was a science high school teacher in Will County, Illinois. Pickering was dismissed from his job after he wrote a letter to the editor of the local paper, Lockport Harold. The letter was sarcastically criticizing the way his superintendent and school board raised and spent funds. The superintendent and school board took offense to the comments within the letter and dismissed Marvin Pickering from his teaching job.
Researchers, however, have found that gaming may not be completely bad for adolescents. A recent study by Paul J.C. Adachi and Teena Willoughby points out that video gaming may satisfy the same criteria for positive youth development as traditional organized activities such as sports, music or clubs. In direct contrast to this analogy, they demonstrate that there may be significant social benefits of gaming, that adolescents are motivated to play video games and that this type of play requires concentration and mental effort (Adachi and
One owner was forever remembered as a Roman hero, while the other died brutally in war. Even though Achilles was killed by Paris, Homer perfectly described the shield of Achilles. It showed life and death, happiness and war, and finally peace versus brutality. The prophetic shield should have been a warning to the great Achilles. However, he did not see the warning hidden in the beautiful shield’s images. This made the shield the more effective symbol. Finally, Homer’s Iliad came first and therefore, Virgil’s Aeneid was simply modeling its shield description off of the shield of Achilles. In the end, the first story, the Iliad, had to be more effective because its ideology was original and it foreshadowed the impending fate of a great war hero. It was not a replica, like The Aeneid. In the end, being original is the more effective
An example of someone who is in favor of selling organs would be a twenty one year old named Alexander Berger. Alexander Berger bravely decided to donate one of his organs, his kidney, to an individual he has never met before. While Alexander Berger went through this process, he claims that he spent a total of three days in the hospital and took a couple weeks off from his work to recover. This example of Alexander Berger is very essential to this topic because it gives the viewpoint of the donor and why this black market should be legal. Berger believes that an individual, specifically a donor, who has taken the time to go through this organ transplantation process should receive some sort of payment is necessary. Berger claims that the
The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini, shows how lying and deceit is a counterproductive route when trying to live with a dreadful past, exhibited through the actions of Amir. Amir’s decision to withhold the truth and blatantly lie in several situations due to jealousy and his desire for Baba to be proud of him amounts to further pain and misery for himself and those he deceives. Because of Amir’s deceit towards Baba and Hassan, his guilt from his past manifests itself into deeply-rooted torment, not allowing him to live his life in peace. The guilt from Amir’s past is only alleviated when he redeems his sins by taking in Sohrab, contributing to the theme that the only way “to be good again” is through redemption, not shunning the past.
Guilt is a result of sin, and sin is a result of misaction. In the novel, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, the protagonist, Amir, goes on a journey to redeem himself for his sins. When Amir was 12, he witnessed his best friend, Hassan, get raped in an alley. Instead of standing up for his friend, Amir ran away in selfishness and cowardice. The guilt of his choice plagues Amir for the rest of his life, until one day, he gets a call from an old uncle, who tells him that “there is a way to be good again.” (2) The Kite Runner follows Amir on his odyssey to redeem himself for his hurtful actions. Through this journey, Khaled Hosseini delivers the message that sins and guilt can always be atoned for.
Though some may rise from the shame they acquire in their lives, many become trapped in its vicious cycle. Written by Khlaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner describes the struggles of Amir, his father Baba, and his nephew Sohrab as they each fall victim to this shameful desolation. One repercussion of Baba hiding his sinful adultery from Amir is that Amir betrays Hassan for his father’s stringent approval. Sohrab’s dirty childhood also traumatizes him through his transition to America. Consequently, shame is a destructive force in The Kite Runner. Throughout the course of the novel, Baba’s shameful affair, Amir’s selfish betrayal, and Sohrab’s graphic childhood destroy their lives.
1. In Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. spins a tale of warning. One that warns of the dangers of total, unadulterated equal society. A society that is so equal in informational access, that an omniscient narrator is needed to tell the whole story. A society that is so equal in intelligence, that is is almost non-existent. A society that is so equal in freedom, that nobody has it. The story of Harrison Bergeron gives the warning that when equal opportunity is confused with equal ability, society as a whole, will diminish as a result.
Guilt is a strong emotion that affects many people around the world. It can either lead people into a deep and dark abyss that can slowly deteriorate people or it can inspire them to achieve redemption. Guilt and redemption are two interrelated subjects that can show the development of the character throughout a novel. The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, are two literary works that convey the connections between guilt and redemption and show the development of the character by using theme and symbolism that are present in the novels.
Guilt can do many things to a person; harm them, make them become a better person, or a person simply does not feel remorse for what they have done. Many things can cause a person to feel guilt, they could’ve lied to someone, stole something committed a sin, and much more; everyone experiences guilt at some point of their life. In the novel, guilt is portrayed throughout the course of the main characters journey to redemption. “That was a long time ago, but it’s wrong what they say about the past, I’ve learned, and how you can bury it. Because the past claws its way out. Looking back now, I realize I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty-six years.” In The Kite Runner, a key theme that was present was that your past will always haunt you unless you redeem yourself- Amir will always remember about Hassan, the death of his father, and the extremity of his lies, but in the movie version, the element that was missing was the thoughts of Amir, to help the viewer get a better take on his pain and guilt; in present time many people go through life changing events that can torment them for the rest of their lives, some people manage to break free from the chains of guilt by redeeming themselves, and go on to live a happy life, like Amir.
The inherent educational value of the Internet is being realized in schools across the country. The vast web of information is easily accessible and is quickly taking the place of traditional library resources, because of its current events and diverse views. Understanding the importance of this new technology, the Clinton administration is pushing for school Internet connection with the goal of "more than 97 percent of public schools connected by the year 2000 (Hoffman 15)." However, serious problems arise due to the very nature of the Net. Alongside the educational and commercial resources are sites with pornography, criminal advocacy, and illegal drug manufacturing information. According to Syllabus magazine, "a keystone question becomes how to deal with this richness and diversity of information and interchanges while providing a safe e...
Another reason for not censoring the internet is the psychological effects that it can have on a child. The filtering of the internet can tell a child that adults do not trust them to surf the net on their own. This can lead them to believe that they can not make their own decisions, and that a computer determines what right and wr...
Many people do not realize that at the moment of conception life begins, it is a medical fact, once conceived; the structure of life is beginning to take place (Medical Testimony). Whether it is a mammal, sea creature, or even insects, they all start life as humans do. Directly following conception, there is an unreplaceable genetic code made that is unique and made to thrive but is destroyed without ever getting the chance to reach full potential.

...enture into overseas market comes with expectations as well as uncertainties due to unfamiliarity. Charles and Keith, the fashion retailer, has to understand clearly that what appeals in one market might not be accepted in the others and this is almost the same for all industries. Thus, a thorough research on cultural background has to be done before entering an unfamiliar ground.
