This essay will be about the book Beowulf, an amazing Geat warrior who fights great beasts and leads great people in his long prosperous life. The book was originally a poem or epic, Similar to the Odyssey or the Iliad but was later translated into a book written by Seamus Heaney. Beowulf’s story takes place mostly at the land of the Danes. While Beowulf was there, he had a good friendship with the king Hrothgar. They became very fond of each other in Beowulf’s time on the island. Hrothgar thought of Beowulf as a son. Beowulf is a great hero with many battles, and represents courage, strength, respect, and honor.

Beowulf is one of the most brave people to ever live and was well known for it. His most well known fight was with Grendel. Grendel was a beast that terrorized the Danes. He would walk into Heorot and feast on the flesh of the Danish soldiers. Nobody in all of the Danish land could even lay a finger on Grendel. For fifty years he was king of the Geats and protected them from war and other hardships. He was also a great leader in battle. He led the Danish to fight the amazing Grendel. They defeated Grendel but lost one man during the fight. When Grendel’s mother came Beowulf insisted that he fight the battle alone. In the end of that battle Beowulf came on top of Grendel’s mother. His last battle of his life was against a dragon. Beowulf led the Danish soldiers to fight the dragon but all except one retreated. Beowulf ended up fighting side by side with this man, and he killed the dragon but also lost his own life in battle. He also had many small fights that he led people in and went out to war many times as general. One fight was when he was out at sea fighting sea monsters and he defeated them all and swam back to shore safely. Beowulf is a respected leader and definitely a great
