Recommended: Benjamin Franklin's 13 virtues explained
Benjamin Franklin’s most important virtue is moderation, without it many individuals could get disorientated to the point where stimulation dominants their daily lives. Benjamin Franklin said, “Avoid extremes. Forebear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.” However, the extreme consequence of moderation is that the creativity in many individuals wouldn’t exist. If the new ideas and inspirations of creative individuals can’t grow than evolution can’t take place. Therefore, if moderation is used carefully in a society, it is an important virtue for present and future generations.
Moderation balances all qualities of life and helps individuals to cherish these qualities. Joseph Hall giving an example stated, “Moderation is the silken string running through the pearl chain of all virtues.” Over the lifetime of Benjamin Franklin, he only found thirteen basic virtues to live by such as; Temperance, Silence, Order, Resolution, Frugality, Industry, Sincerity, Justice, Moderation, Cleanliness, Tranquility, Chastity, and Humanity. This important virtue can make more sense by being the center trait to all Benjamin’s thirteen virtues.
Oscar Wilder quoted “Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess.” Oscar meant that moderation can destroy many of the creativity and evolution. Some people would think that moderation is a bad thing because it limits the creation of the new ideas for inventions. However, the mental side of moderation is only used to dig deep into the mental state and seek out the true desires of the present options. The definition of moderation is the quality of being moderate; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses. (Dictionary.com) Moderation can stretch over many different types of def...

Benjamin Franklin was probably the most important man in the development of the United States. He was a very influential figure. Benjamin Franklin, however, was also a man of great wisdom. Like his book The Way to Wealth, where he outlines his financial wisdom, wisdom could be attained from his autobiography. In The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin outlines thirteen virtues which he believes to be moral. Although Benjamin Franklin's thirteen virtues may not be all the wisdom found in his autobiography, it is a start for a successful life.
There have been many instances of suicide that have occurred in the past years at universities across the country, and since it is such a sensitive subject, there have not been nearly enough coverage as this topic deserves, considering this issue does not seem to be going away. When collecting data about suicide statistics, the age range is broken down as people ages 15-24, which spans most developmental years. Within this bracket are college-age students and this age-group has by far the most troubling statistics around it.
Franklin” divulges a characteristic that is highly prized in American Culture, individuality. He addresses this aspect when speaking of Dr. Franklin’s actions in Congress. “But has seemed to choose that the Congress should pursue their own Principles and sentiments and adopt their own Plans” (629). In this quote, Benjamin Franklin is encouraging individual thought and not suggesting that Congress conform to ideas. Thus, he supported the expression of each member of Congresses individuality. In modern society there are so many ways for a person to express their individuality; they are not limited to individual thought. Teenagers are a perfect example, they express their individuality through their clothes, hairstyles, the music they listen to, and the way they choose to modify their

“My intentions were to acquire the Habitude of all these virtues, I judg’d it would be well not to distract my attention by attempting the whole at once, but to fix it one of them at a time, and when I should be master of that, then proceed to another, and so on till I should have gone thro’ the thirteen” (Franklin 93). He believes that if he masters all of these virtues that he will become the perfect individual. If humility is the thirteenth one, than it must be the most important one in his life, or at least a closure to a perfect lifestyle. He made a book in which he allotte...

Moral perfection. This was Benjamin Franklin’s way of living “..without committing any fault at any time” (Franklin, 63). Benjamin Franklin was very specific about the way he intended to live his life and the person he was aiming to become. Franklin seemed to believe that since he knew right and wrong, there was no reason not to always do right and avoid the other. This might have seemed like a crazy task, even impossible. However, Benjamin Franklin was determined to try to achieve this perfect lifestyle. In previous letters that Benjamin had received for encouragement to right and publish an autobiography, men had described him in many ways that made him worthy. Men used words such as your frugality, diligence, and temperance ( Benjamin

Improve yourself, which will in return improve the society. Contradiction is inevitable when trying to follow strict ideals. Franklin's purpose was to make people aware of their inclinations and to help them overcome the natural tendencies of man, which would limit our dependence on other people. Now the eighth-leading cause of death overall in the U.S. and the third-leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years, suicide has become the subject of much recent focus. U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, for instance, recently announced his Call to Action to Prevent Suicide, 1999, an initiative intended to increase public awareness, promote intervention strategies, and enhance research. The media, too, has been paying very close attention to the subject of suicide, writing articles and books and running news stories. Suicide among our nation’s youth, a population very vulnerable to self-destructive emotions, has perhaps received the most discussion of late. Maybe this is because teenage suicide seems the most tragic—lives lost before they’ve even started. Yet, while all of this recent focus is good, it’s only the beginning. We cannot continue to lose so many lives unnecessarily.
