In today’s game, the National Basketball Association is the best and most expensive basketball league in the world. All thirty teams are worth an incredible amount of money, and the number is rapidly increasing each year. Today, the value of a team is extremely high, with the league average at an astonishing 1.3 billion dollars. This average has increased by 3.5% in just three years (Badenhausen). A large amount of a team's income is from sponsorship deals. The two most valuable teams in the NBA, are towards the bottom of the league in performance over the past few years. NBA jersey sponsorships are going to be extremely valuable and bring high amounts of money to all thirty teams. Some sponsorship deal will be with local or regional companies, but some may be with internationally known companies (Brown). These contracts will be partly so large, due to that companies want to be related and linked to the best and most popular NBA teams (Marcin). One of the most popular teams in the NBA, are the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors would like at least fifteen million dollars from their contract (Kawk). If a popular team in the NBA wants this amount of money, imagine how much a team such as the Dallas Cowboys could earn in the NFL. The majority of the NBA has yet a to sign a sponsorship deal, but each contract is expected to be very large. Jersey sponsorships, enable teams to make moves in the off-season that wouldn't be possible without jersey sponsorships. With these sponsorships portions of money, can be used to try and land players that require a higher salary and a great amount of money. NBA jersey sponsorships will help increase the league’s popularity and growth worldwide. Silver’s idea for jersey sponsorships are to “produce money to invest and improve the game.” (Pearlberg). The popularity of the league may increase in foreign countries, due to NBA teams partnering with international companies. The logo of the popular airline Emirates, may be seen next season on jerseys in NBA games. The company may be looking to sign a contract according to the Chicago Tribune. The company will probably be only interested in signing with a team if Emirates flies into that city (Navy-Williams). The cities are Toronto, San Francisco, New York, Orlando, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, and Washington D.C (Navy-Williams). Emirates is also partners with other popular teams around the world such as Arsenal, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain (Navy-Williams). Whichever team partners with Emirates will be in very good company. With a sponsorship like this, the NBA may be more noticed in an international country.
