Recommended: The importance of going back to school
Returning to school was a huge step in my personal and professional life. I very strongly encourage my children to get a secondary education and I wanted to lead them by example. I want them to see that hard work pays of and it is never too late. I also have many goals I want to achieve in my career, and getting a degree will make many of those goals within reach. By having a degree it puts me in a position to be qualified for career advancement. Knowledge is power, therefore, we should always strive to learn and grow.
Graduating early is when you graduate before you are suppose to. It was never common because no one ever seemed to think about it or want to put in the work to do it. For a long time high school was defined as the best time of your life. Everyone who spoke to you always said when you left you would miss it. No one really wanted to graduate early for that reason. People wanted to cherish the time they had in high school because they knew they only got to go through it once. It was a big idea to live up to. Senior year has this belief attached to it. It means a lot to people because it is their last year of high school and it was upsetting to know that you’d be leaving the people you have spent the last four years with. People thought you had to have as much fun as possible in high school and do all kinds of crazy things before you turned 18: when you would be considered and punished as an adult. Now those times have changed. High school is not looked upon as the best times of your life anymore. It is looked upon in almost a negative way. High school has changed a lot and it is not very enjoyable now. There are lots of reasons why someone would want to graduate early. For instance, maybe the student was bullied, maybe the student decided they wanted to move on and go to college, maybe the student got sick of their home life and wanted to move forward, or like me, maybe the student has their future waiting for them and all they need is to graduate high school so they could begin it.
I decided at that moment that I would return to school and graduate with my bachelor?s degree. I made a promise to myself that I would finish my education. If I complete my education, I would make my parents proud of me. Plus, I want to be the first person on either side of my family to attend graduate school. Adults return to college primarily because they desire a higher paying career or a professional job. This could be a registered nurse, an elementary school teacher, a policeman or an attorney. It could also be an accountant, a journalist, a librarian, an interior decorator or a beautician (Smith, 2001).
One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my high school diploma, despite all the hard work that led me where I am today was well worth it. Many people would expect me to say I am coming to college to better myself as a person or to continue my education. The truth is I want to change a life in my community, make my parents proud of their daughter and start a tradition in my family.
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Everyone has their own reasons for wanting a college education. Popular reasons for attending college include being able to obtain a better paying job, increase future earning potential, gain training for a specific career, and learning more about a specific topic of interest. Rampell, C. (2015) My reasons are more personal than either of the reasons listed. I do not wish to miss out on significant opportunities that have the potential to enrich my life and future. If there is anything in my life that I would regret it would be not pursuing my college education. As we get older life happens and the list of things we wish we could have done gets longer. Knowing that it is never too late to accomplish my goals is strong motivation to shorten the list of should haves. Obtaining a college education is important to me because I will have a strong sense of accomplishment for setting a goal that is important to me and seeing it through to the end. I also enjoy challenges and feel inspired by the endless possibilities for my future.
People have very different reasons on why going to college and getting an education is important for them. Some people go to college because that is what is expected of them, and others go because they have nothing else better to do. However, I am interested in going to college and obtaining a good education because it will benefit my family, my country, and me.
In our society, a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a necessity. The main reason people go to college is not because they want to, but because they have to. Guidance counselors and parents pressure most high school seniors to go to college because it is “the right thing to do.” Our society has it in our mind that if a person does not go to college they will not become successful. Exactly one year ago I was in high school, and being a senior was probably the most stressful year. Most seniors worried about filling out college applications and deciding what major to do. Inputting all your grades and knowing that you were not the best student is especially stressful. For most people, going to college seems
While research shows the benefits of students attending college, some people still disagree and do not believe they should. Jennifer Ludden writes that people will have more money and more job opportunities if they attend college. However, Holly Epstein Ojalvo interviewed the founder of UnCollege, Dale Stephens who does not think students need to go to college to be successful. I believe it is important for me to attend college to be monetarily secure and to establish new social connections and relationships with new, different people, but mainly I want to attend college to prove to myself that I can graduate and be successful on my own.
Receiving a higher education has been a lifelong goal for me. All my life I wanted a job saving animals, as I got older I knew being a veterinarian is my all-time life objective. Although, I am currently a veterinary technician I need to achieve a higher educational background to completely reach my goal in life. Having a college degree gives me the nostalgia that I long for; being able to say that I’m in college achieving my goals as becoming a veterinarian is gratifying to me. Being a role model to my daughter is also extremely important; having her see that anything is possible if you put your mind to it, she will see that life is difficult and there will be constant road blocks but with determination and hard work success is within reach. After completing college I will be able to get a better job and also receive a better pay check. Going to college for a higher education level is important to many, but not all. For me, going back to college will help me achieve so many of my goals that I have longed for.
I hope to be able to instill these values in my son as he grows up to make his own choices. In choosing to return to school after eleven years I hope to improve my own: intellectual wellness by challenging my mind, my emotional wellness by bettering myself, and interpersonal wellness by improving my relationships with the people closest to me. The support from my family and friends has been invaluable in my returning to school. I feel that by making these positive changes I am setting a good example for my son.
There are few reasons why I want to go back to school. My main focus is finishing what I started. I think that it will give me self improvment and a good social enviornment. With a degree so many oppertunities can open up for me. I am really looking foward to starting the semester at St Joseph. It feels great to be going back and a new begining for me.
...nning to get old fast. Thus, beginning my education as an adult learner, I got clean from all illicit substances, and at the age of thirty four, I finally obtained my GED. I did not stop there. I finally found the true value in education, and it changed my view on how important it is to have an education.
I have chosen the third prompt for my essay. To answer the question I have chosen to be rid of school, to change my income and to keep the the climate the same. I wish to be rid of school mainly for the reason of it being an extremely grueling task that doesn't offer much in the way of rewards. I choose to change my income because essentially having money is a beautiful thing. Finally I have chosen the climate as something I hope wont change, most of all because it is something that effects everybody and it is increasingly becoming more and more of a problem.
Education is a very powerful key to success in modern day American society. More often than not, a person will not be able to find a decent job unless they have graduated from a reputable college with a degree. Because of this change in society, it has brought a lot of pressure by parents for their child to graduate and get a degree. A lot of those who graduate with a degree are not always the best candidate for the job, and even with the degree, they are not even always guaranteed a job. But personally, getting an education shouldn’t be as big of a deal, as it is now. Back in the day, most people did not go to college, none the less graduated from high school; yet they still made it through and learned lots of things from their jobs that they acquired.
After graduating high school I went to college and this was a very exciting time for my occupation as a student. It was a different experience, I was more comfortable with the language, I had the freedom of picking my own classes, my own schedule and even the professors. So even though my occupation good more challenging and I had to work part time I was very motivated and proud to be a college
