At the age of sixteen you’re allowed to drive a car, have a real job and take on responsibilities that most adults do. At the age of eighteen many people who are new to politics cast ballots to who they want as mayor, president ect. In the United States the voting age is at eighteen years old. People at or above the age will get a ballot from an official and take the ballot papers to a voting screen in which one votes for whom they favor. Voting is a vital thing that will affect the futures of all Americans and its allies. As of today, politicians do not represent ideas that benefits all of Americans. Politicians do not pay attention or aid the youth needs because they have no ability to vote for or against them. Someone has to speak for the youth. In agreement with, The National Youth Rights Association “Lowering the voting age will provide them with a direct, constructive, and democratic channel for making their views felt and for giving them a responsible stake in the future of the nation.” If the voting age is lowered, it will provide the youth with straight control, a purpose and a learning experience to support the principles of a democracy, making them to believe that they have a purpose in our future nation. According to Vote16Usa.org “Students learn best when the material presented is relevant to their lives and civics classes fall short when they teach young people how goverment works without any ability to participate in it.” People expect students to learn about politics whether they know about it or not it won’t affect their lives in any way. Giving them something to participate in and spark their interest. Lowering the voting age can also lead schools to focus more attention on effective civics education. Lowering the voting age to 16 will provide people who have roots in the community and pay more attention to local issues. Youth have comfortable surroundings such as school, parents, and a stable friend. They feel connected to their community which would increase their desire and will feel the need to vote. Granting the youth the right to vote will have a direct effect on their character, intelligence and a sense of responsibility. The youth feel apathetic because after 18 years of their lives being told that their opinions or their circumstances do not matter, why wouldn’t they feel turned off by politics and not vote. Lowering the voting age will increase voter turnout, after a few years more people will be much more involved in politics and make wiser decisions for when they vote.
