Strategic Management and Strategic Competiveness Ford Motor Company began in Detroit, Michigan by a guy named Henry Ford. Ford has been producing vehicles in America since 1903. Ford has been through its ups and downs during all the recessions but has always been able to come out on top. Ford Motor Company sells mostly automobiles and commercial vehicles around the world. Ford also owns and operates Lincoln, which is a luxury vehicle line of Ford Motor Company. Ford also owns many stakes in other automobile companies, which has led to their success in other countries. Assess how globalization and technology changes have impacted the corporation you researched. Ford Motor Company offers vehicles and services to consumers at the best rate available. Today technology has become more sophisticated, allowing Ford Motor Company to make parts outside of America and produce them at a low rate. This has changed the way most manufacturing companies are able to stay in business. Some feel technology is taking over and pushing the human race out of the work force. This is very true on many aspects but humans cannot keep up with the flow of goods and the demands today. During the 2008 Financial Crisis all four big competitors were in need of a buy out from the government. Ford Motor Company was the only one to not take the buyout due to its beliefs they didn’t need help. In 2008 Ford sold its other business adventures Jaguar and Range Rover to another competitor to help restart their new business goals. Globalization is a process in which it allows mixing and collaboration from the consumer to the companies, the government, and internationally benefits. Conclusion During this assignment I learned a lot about how Ford Motor Company began and is operating today. Ford has changed their mission throughout the years as many just as many other companies have. Although Ford has switched their vision they have followed it every time and have been successful every time. Ford has maintained its own throughout the Great Depression and the Financial Crisis of 2008. This showed to me that the company believed in themselves to not get help from the government unlike other companies.
It is hard to imagine living in the 21st century without Henry Ford’s ingenuity and determination to innovate and bring to perfection a mechanism to mass-produce and reduce costs. His vision not only changed the automobile industry, but also paved the way we handle the constant change in products that occurs almost over night. Imagine a market without the ability to mass-produce, minimize costs and still offer a decent product. We would still be living in a society were just a few of us would be able to afford high end engineered gadgets like the automobile that we take for granted in our day to day lives.

Famous for being one of the few people to greatly influence the twentieth century, Henry Ford was an innovator with a vision for the future. With his astounding work on transforming the automobile from just a simple invention into a great innovation that people to this day still buy and use, he shaped the twentieth century to a great extent. He was an American industrialist who founded the Ford Motor Company in the early nineteen hundreds. Ever since Ford was a young boy he has always seemed to have an interest in machines. He loved to tamper with machinery and other simple mechanisms. His first job was in a machine shop in Detroit which inspired him to experiment with machines and learn how they work. He learned to fix things like watches by trial-and-error and no matter what he did not give up when trying to learn how to fix things. He was one determined young man who worked hard and turned out to be a great leader with a very creative and imaginative mind. By teaching himself how to put a simple wrist watch together, he was able to use his newly found knowledge to move on to designing machines such as full sized steam engines. A few men who ran the steam engines helped to expand Ford’s knowledge of the engines by teaching him how they operated.
Model T’s were everywhere in America, even long after Ford stopped production in 1927. (Henry) While Ford was the number one brand, selling the most cars throughout the early 1900’s, the Model T created a new industry that is distinctly American; the auto industry. Three manufacturers, Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler dominated the American auto industry, and all three companies still produce cars today. The Model T gave birth to the competitive auto market. To this day, car companies in America are constantly racing to innovate, improve, and outsell their competitors. Manufacturing of cars “became the backbone of a new consumer goods-oriented society. By the mid-1920s it ranked first in value of product, and in 1982 it provided one out of every six jobs in the United States.” (history –idk yet) The demand for cars also resulted in a booming petroleum industry, and a high demand for metals, like steel. ( History idk yet) Furthermore, with so many people driving cars, construction of roads was necessary. The popularity of automobiles set off a chain reaction that created new opportunities all across the country. All sections of the modern automotive industry, from marketing to manufacturing, as well industries like petroleum refining, steel production, and road construction, can trace their beginnings to the Ford Model
Achieving world class business performance is a major challenge in today’s society. Manufacturing companies continue to face increased competition and globalization from its competitors. (1, p. 148). The automotive industry is one of the most volatile manufacturing industries that we have, which was evident in the 2008 – 2010 automotive industry crisis. (2) This global financial downturn served notice to the American automotive manufactures to raise the bar, in order to achieve word class business performance. General Motors, one of the country’s largest automotive manufactures, had to receive a government bailout to survive. During this time many with the corporation asked themselves, if we were a world class business, would we be facing this pending crisis. The answer was a resounding “NO”. General Motors has come out of bankruptcy and is focused on being a world-class business organization.
Ford Motor Company current mission statement is “committed to provide personal mobility for people around the world”. With that in mind their vision is to become the world’s leading Consumer Company for automotive products and services. So the discussion on internal and external analysis clearly defines that where the competitive advantage of Ford Motors is and where it is lacking. People who have durability as their first priority will go for Ford but they lack in some of their strategies which the management should consider and work on it. We also came to know that Ford is an innovative company from the very first and also serves local demands with the help of related and supporting industry. But in some points they have taken wrong decisions which compel them to sell some of their brands to others. Many factors lead to the recent downturn of this industry that led to mass layoffs and displaced workers, which had a negative impact on Detroit, as well as the United States economy.
Many economic factors exist that impact the development of Ford Motor Company's strategic plan and it’s no small task to project how some of these factors might change as the strategy is being realized.
