Going to someone who has information on a subject you’re having difficulties with and unable to speak to your professor about is better than waiting for your grades to drop. Even if you’re in the clear for passing the class if you need some support on homework or any assignment a tutor on campus is able to help you through it all. The good thing about tutoring on campus is free to any and all students and you can make an appointment that benefits your needs. English isn’t my strongest skill set when it comes to academics. I’ve always done great in my mathematics course and science areas but rarely received an “A” in English. Confucius once said, "You cannot open a book without learning," emphasizing the importance of hard work in the learning process. This statement holds true as reading is an essential component of education. In 2014, out of 2.9 million high school graduates, 2.0 million enrolled in college to pursue higher education.

Thousands of people from around the world immigrate to America for many reasons, like wanting to start a new life with their families or fleeing from persecution. Because of this, there are many children who speak only a little bit of English or children who speak no English. Many of these children learn how to speak near perfect English in school, but do not know how to write in proper English because teachers do not focus as much on this aspect. These children eventually grow up and go to college. They are then left with a difficult task of constantly writing proper essays in proper English. In my experiences at the Writing Resource Center, I have found that the biggest area of concern that I have run into is the feeling that I am an ineffective tutor as far as tutoring the students that come in search of writing assistance. I feel that I am a very inadequate means of relief for these people, yet they still come to me for help. In this paper, I will explore these thoughts and try to find out what it is that makes me feel so ineffective.
At first, this was a challenge for me, not only was this new, it is somewhat difficult to interact with someone new online. Although, the material provided by my professor was useful, whenever I had questions or needed a second opinion, tutors became my go to help.
