Recommended: Mr. bennet character analysis

Living in the time that the story takes place in, would be very similar to what it is today. It is similar because it took place in 2012, and not much has changed from then to now in living environments. The living environments include living in a neighborhood with a house and playing football every weekend in games. This is how many kids live today.

In the story Game Changers, one character that I like is an eleven-year-old kid named Ben McBain. I like this character because even though he is small, he doesn’t let that get in the way of things he likes to do. For example, he places on the football team and even though he can’t play the position he wants to because he’s too small, he still tries is hardest at wherever the coach puts him.

    The novel goes through a couple of settings such as, Philip's struggle to keep his family alive, and the conflict between the nature of a nuclear bomb against the Los Angeles area. When the bomb hits he is playing around in a playroom shelter with his brother and his girlfriend. They go out to find out what had happened and found burning houses, their house only left with one wall, rubble on the ground, debris all over the place, and people running frantically for shelter. Philip's brother became sick after finding his mother and bringing her back down to the shelter, and found that his mother had been burnt severely and needed immediate medical attention. Philip struggles to keep his brother from getting even more sick than he was and to bring his mother to a hospital. Philip's family weren't the only people affected by the bomb. the entire surrounding area of Los Angeles was pounded by a devastating bomb. Churches, Hospitals, and streets were flooded with sick, dying, and even dead people. Hospitals that were built to only withstand 200 people now have thousands, and hospitals lack food, doctors, and water.

    Ben, the main character of the novel Taronga, is a representation of a hero which reinforces my attitudes regarding this group, yet challenges the stereotypical or society's attitudes.  Ben is constructed as being quiet and submissive, such as the fact that he stayed for a long time and put up with Greg using him for his telepathic gift, before finally coming into his own and running away.  This is another example of Ben's submissiveness - he chose to sneak away from Greg quietly in the dead of the night, instead of a fight or a loud confrontation.  He is also a humanitarian, as he cares for other animals, even when killing them.  This reinforces my attitudes and views on heroes, as I believe that most true heroes are quiet, usually introverted, and do things to make the community better - often without receiving the recognition they deserve.  The extroverted heroes, such as Superman, is what society expects, and because of this they often overlook the real heroes.  On the other hand, Ben is not a passive character.  He takes control of situations, such as when he arranges a meeting with Chas and tells him his plan (which was all untrue) which was the only way that he, Ellie and the animals would be able to escape from Taronga Zoo.  I believe that that is how a true hero would react - he would think over the situation carefully, come up with the best solution, and act on it.  Society is always hoping for the more exciting hero, the one who would go out and beat up the villains and rescue the helpless girl.  To look at Ben's appearance, he is around 14, small, wears old, ragged clothes and has bare feet.

There are characters in this book that could portray real people, because the things these characters go through are common in today's world. Characters like Neely Crenshaw, an all-American whose career ends up short with a career ending injury. Then there is Coach Eddie Rake, a coach that leaves a legacy in a small town by making an unbelievable winning streak during his prime years. Almost everyone who played for Coach Rake hated his guts. Fictional characters in this book are believable. Even events like a coach who hits their athlete, and starts a brawl seem believable. Although this book is fiction, the majority of the events and characters could exist and are believable.
