Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose (Macmillan), Ben Carson was successful, but how? It would seem prosperity just requires academic success, and a good career choice, but in reality being triumphant requires certain attributes. Talent, Time, Hope, Honesty, Insight,to be Nice, Knowledge, In-Depth-Learning, and God are all of the aspects Dr. Carson thinks we need in order to be successful. . Not only are these traits essential for success, they can build your character as well. Although all of these traits are crucial, but a few of them are of more significance than the rest. One example is Time, Time is an indefinite during which events, conditions, and actions occur and exist, or continue with uninterrupted succession (Macmillan). …show more content…
You should always know the importance of time, and use it wisely. Knowing how to use it and make it work in your favor is essential. It can prove your trustworthiness and improves your social status because of your dependability. Learn to use it, and you are sure to be successful in life. Honesty is another important virtue, being free of deceit and untruthfulness (Macmillan) is one of the most important things in success, and in being a good person. Always be honest, and people will trust you and rely on you. Honesty makes you an extraordinary and amazing person. Lastly, and most importantly, God. He is an eternal and almighty being (Macmillan) that will help you whenever. Trust in God and never put Him out of your life. If you never get too big for God, you will always prosper. These traits will help you in the most extraordinary and amazing ways. Use them well and success will always be possible. Ben Carson is well known for many things, his smarts, amazing talent, but one of the most inspiring things he believes in is his unfaltering trust in God. Just like everyone else, there was a time in Ben’s life where he could only confide in Gode about his issues because no one else would understand. Carson’s overwhelming emotion and Terrible Temper made him feel this way, more than anything. When he got angry, he spiraled out of control and did things like punch someone with a lock just for teasing him, or almost stabbing his friend for changing the radio station. Having all of that guilt on his shoulders made him depressed and hopeless. “My poor mother, I thought, she believes in me. Not even she knows how bad I am. Misery engulfed me in darkness. ‘If you don’t do this for me God, I've got no place else to go’ ”.(Carson 55). How he felt was relatable, but how he reacted was amazing, and exemplary.Ben claims that while in the bathroom, he slipped out long enough to grab a bible. “My lips moved wordlessly as I continued to read. I felt as if the verses had been written just to me, for me.”(Carson 55). Although Ben saw God as someone that would help him simply out of love, the main reason Ben changed was because of one marvelous verse. “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. “(Carson 55). Something clicked inside Carson, he had finally found peace within himself. “I walked out of the bathroom a changed young man. ‘My temper will never control me again,’ I told myself , ‘Never again. I’m free.’ ”(Carson 56). Husband, father, adroit surgeon, Ben Carson is an astounding individual.
This is in all ways true not only because of his success as a neurosurgeon, but because of his beliefs and his standards. One of the greatest things about him though, is his ability to use time to his advantage, and it really is one of the biggest keys to his success. It didn’t start out that way though, when he really learned how to manage time was his first year at Yale University. “After less than a week on campus, i realized i wasn’t all that bright.” (Carson 70), “Each day I slipped farther and farther behind, especially in chemistry.”(Carson 71). Carson was so caught up in his work, because of lack of time management, that he was failing freshman chemistry. Carson’s grades were below average and he was not grasping any of the concepts in his chemistry class. Nonetheless, Carson was still not using his time well and it resulted in chaos. “ It all came to a head at the end of first semester when I faced final examinations.” (Carson 71). Unfortunately, Carson crammed for exams last minute and did not have enough time to study in-depth so his only solution was to pray and hope. Luckily God provided him with an amazing miracle and Carson passed freshman chemistry. From then on, He promised himself, and God that he would always manage his time wisely, and to never rely on God to do things for
him. Honesty is an amazing quality that will get you many places in life. Not only does Dr. Carson really believe in the attribute, but he also uses integrity often. Although honesty has always come naturally to Carson, but the best example of his amazing candor was when Carson was taking a test at Yale University. It all started when the exams from Carson’s psychology class got inexplicably incinerated. On account of this, his professor gave about 150 students a replacement exam that was much harder. “As I stared at the questions, I couldn't believe them either. They were incredibly difficult. If not impossible.” (Carson 86). “ “Forget it”. I heard one girl say to another. “Let's go back and study for this. We can say that we didn't read the notice. Then when they repeat it, We’ll be ready.” Her friend agreed and they quietly slipped out of the auditorium.”(Carson 87). While the students began filing out of the classroom, they were saying that they would lie about not seeing the notice on the board. Soon, Carson was the only one who remained in the study room, he was still trying to answer the strenuous questions, praying to God to tell him what to write. “Suddenly the door of the classroom opened noisily, disrupting my flow of thought.” (Carson 87). Surprisingly, the professor had returned. He happily informed Carson that it was all a hoax, and awarded him with the honor of being the “most honest student” in the class. He was also awarded a much needed $10 bill. To add to the astonishing success, a photographer for the Yale Daily News also took Carson’s picture for the school paper. Not only did Ben Carson show honesty, but he showed courage, and confidence. A 10 dollar bill isn't enough to express how important honesty is to the world. Several examples throughout Carson’s life make it clear that he not only sees God by His dictionary definition, but has a personal connection with Him. Carson showed his faith everyday, using this attribute of his even in little things, like praying for a surgery to go well. God has always helped Ben Carson throughout his career. Although Carson felt that God helped the most when he was performing a surgery on an amazing man named Craig Warnick. Although Mr. Warnick was diagnosed with Von-Hippel-Lindau a long time ago, the disease still plagued him with multiple brain tumors, and retina tumors. Finally, after years of fighting the disease, Craig came to Carson in need of surgery. Unfortunately, this specific tumor needed special attention because it was in one of the most vital parts of the body, the brainstem. Not only is it crucial, but it’s one of the most dangerous places to do neurosurgery. Thankfully, even with the huge risk, Craig still went through with it. As always, Warnick valiantly trusted that God would always help him. When the time of the surgery came, Carson opened up the brain stem, but it bled so vigorously, it made it almost impossible to work. “What do I do now?”, he prayed “ I had no idea what to try. Craig will die unless you show me what to do (Carson 184).” All of the sudden Carson knew what to do. He dug into a tiny hole with little bleeding and felt the tumor. He pulled gently, and patiently. The brain had severe damage from surgery and it was in horrible condition. When Carson was starting to lose his hope, a miracle happened. The tumor was removed, all thanks to Carson’s faith in God. Not only did God help Carson in his profession, but it helped him grow as an individual. When Ben was eight years old, their family had moved to Boston. Although being eight years old was the best year of Carson’s life the best part was his first religious experience, and it took place at Detroit Burns Avenue Church. “A natural storyteller, Pastor Ford told of a missionary doctor husband and wife who were being chased by robbers in a far-off country (Carson 23).” After hours of running relentlessly, the religious couple reached a hole in a cliff in which they hid. When the bandits arrived, the christian pair had just vanished. That story made Carson ponder on the meaning religion, and he realized that if he prayed to God for something, God would do it under any circumstances. Within few short weeks, he had decided to be baptized in honor of his new revelation. These events show unequivocally, that Carson is a person of faith, and draws inspiration from religion and faith in God. God is a being that impacts my life in many ways. He is my friend, my Lord, and my Creator. I put everything I have in His hands and this impacts my life in many ways. When I pray, it’s not just saying words, but rather asking, for guidance, for help, for anything. When you put everlasting and unbreakable trust with someone, they will always help you, God has my trust and has always helped me. For example, a week ago, I had to take a big geography quiz, it was worth fifty points and very important to me. I studied all night, knowing that if I worked hard I would get the grade I wanted. I went to bed feeling satisfied, sure that I would ace the quiz. The next morning, I heard people coming back from geography saying that it was really hard. There were questions on the test that I didn’t study for and I was starting to get stressed out. When sixth period came, the test was handed out and I started going through the questions. I was almost done until I came across a question I had no idea about. I did the only thing I could do, I said bismillah, a common word used in my religion. It means in the name of God, what I was doing was for God, and I trusted that He would help me do what is right, and that what He was doing was for a reason. I took a breath and answered the question. A week later, we got our tests back, I had gotten and A! I realized that if I hadn’t put trust in God before that big question, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out so well for me. Not only did God help me have faith in the future, but He reminded me that everything in the past was for a reason, and that I should be thankful for what I have, and who I have in life.
On September eighteenth nineteen fifty-one, in Detroit, Michigan Benjamin Solomon Carson was born into the family of Robert Carson and Sonya Copeland. At the age of eight his parents divorced and his young mother was left struggling to provide for her two boys alone. Sonya took up as many as three jobs at a time to make ends meet (Doyle). With nothing much to their names, Ben and Curtis both grew up with no interest in their studies, Ben especially disliked them and had a hot temper to go along with his ignorance. Sonya decided that her children would not grow up uneducated and adopted a strict routine for the boys and made them study harder. Thanks to his mother’s guidance, Ben became serious about his studies, and soon he became the top student in his class and later graduated with honors from Southwestern High School. He then decided to major in psychology at Yale University in nineteen seventy-three. Here, he would meet his future wife Lacena “Candy” Rustin in nineteen seventy-one. After he had graduated from Yale, Ben decided that he wanted to become a physician and went to the Medical School of the University of Michigan. While in medical school, he became interested in neurosurgery and specialized in this field receiving his M.D from the University. From this point in Carson’s life, he became a father, a well-known and respected physician, and an author. In 2015, Carson found himself surrounded by questions and frustration from the people around him about the government and politics. The question most asked was if Carson would be running for President. Although he made it clear many times that he did not want to run, after much prayer for God to show Ben what He wanted him to do, Carson felt God had opened the doors for ...
Throughout his life Ben Carson faced many trials and tribulations. All of which forced him to make life altering decisions. Going from a “disturbed” child and adolescent to an outstanding surgeon society would think Dr. Carson made the right choices, but along the way Ben wasn’t so sure.

On July 2,1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson of Texas signed a civil rights bill that prohibited discrimination in voting, education, employment and other areas of American life. LBJ had a colorful history with this bill and it’s beliefs which lead to the question if he acted out of politics or principle when he signed that act. Although there are arguments on why the bill was based on politics, LBJ signed that bill based on his own principle. Proof of LBJ's act of principle include his time as a teacher in a colored school, his steadfast after a threat of losing the south and the election, and the constant criticism he endured for not acting earlier.
