Beliefs About Baptism

I believe that the fundamental belief of Christians is that God is our savior and that we need to believe in him and believe that he is the one and only true God. For me, this means that we must believe that God sent Jesus to die for our sins. This makes me believe that we need to realize that we are not perfect and only through Christ we can be redeemed.
Personally, I believe that baptism should be done when a person is old enough to make a commitment to Christ and understand the meaning behind baptism. What I have learned about baptism is that it is a rebirth and I think that people should only be baptized when they are ready to commit themselves to Christ in a public fashion to demonstrate your faith and to let others be a witness to your rebirth. I do not think that this is a core belief about Christianity as I do not think Baptism is what saves us. Although, this is one of the reasons my denomination is North American Baptist.
As aforementioned, I believe that Christians need to believe in only one God. This is necessary because in John 17 it mentions how there is only one true God and that only he can bring eternal life. When looking back into the old testament, there are many times God punished others for worshiping other idols and deities. The same story is repeated over again. Through Jesus, we can have eternal life with God. Without that fundamental belief, Christians would be close to becoming Jewish. This believe in Jesus Christ is one of the main things that separates from Judaism. Christ’s death allows a new covenant to be made and while we as humans will continuously sin, it is covered by Christ’s blood. For Christians, Jesus’s death is not simply a way to get into heaven. It is a promise, an oath, from God that lets us know that no matter how depraved or sinful humans are, we can be redeemed and shown God’s endless
