Learning, like religion, is a social experience.” Currently, I have a class that I am enrolled in, often I find myself asking “Why I am in this class?” I learn nothing from this lady, her notes are continuously blurry, and every single student is unable to read them. She talks in circles and expects everyone to be able to follow. Personally, I wish I would have taken an online course for this particular class. Everything I have learned in this class has been solely self-taught. To be prepared for the class, I pre-read the chapter we will be having a discussion about in addition to study the curriculum, still I cannot keep up or understand what is coming out of her mouth. I also feel that I am not the only one in class that is completely lost, which makes me feel better about the whole situation. Whereas I am also enrolled in another class, which I adore and value every single minute. This particular class requires an hour and forty-five minutes a day for four days a week. To think this class I feared the most when I enrolled at the beginning of school. Surprisingly now, it is by far my favorite! I have learned so much information in such a little span of time. It is truly remarkable, the change of mind I have had towards this subject! Credit is due to my professor, she is outstanding! Then, of course, I have this class! Comp 1, which as you know is online. There has been struggles, as I think I would have learned better with face to face encounters with my peers and involved discussion with other students and a professor, although I think I have managed to keep my head above the water so far. All- together, with only my brief personal experience given, you cannot say online courses are worse than an in class

When it comes to writing you definitely need to be self motivated and disciplined, I’ve learned in my life that committed and stable routines often lead to better learning practices. You always need to be open-minded about sharing your life with others online because the relationships you build between your classmates and instructors is a very important part of the online learning experience. I fully believe part of the learning process is sharing your personal experiences through writing and reading. You have to be able to think of your ideas thoroughly and then give your best responses; everyone might not always be correct, but if you’re a great listener you’ll get more out of the lessons you learn through other students lives, and advice from your instructors.
Who would have ever thought taking a college course would require one to learn how to learn? It is a good concept we normally undergo at a very young age. At the pre-school age one will find children learning their strength and weakness through their playtime. As adults we almost forget we have to learn how to learn to continue growth in our workplace, school, and in life. In our second week of online classes I learned strengths and weakness in my learning style with the aid of learning assessments, personality spectrums, and time management logs. In this paper, I intend to describe the various components of my learning style and outline a plan to improve my time management and study skills.
According to MyCollegeGuide.org, Molly Goldberg, a student at Florida State University, says, “I like to review my class material every day for about an hour just so all the information stays fresh and I’m not lost the next time I have to sit in the lecture hall. I’ve had to become very self-motivated in order to do well in my classes and have had to give up quite a few fun activities to secure good grades. ” We can see that college life teaches students how to manage their time with many activities and the need set their priorities straight in order to be successful. Tyler Schaub, a student at the University of Iowa, talks about studying and working until 2 a.m. in the morning.
It is very important to develop social skills during college, and it is also important to become more independent. Both of these will aid the student in starting a new life after graduation. But family relationships are still very important to students.
There are also many conveniences and benefits to taking an online class over a traditional, face-to-face class. Many students benefit logistically, financially, and from the course structure itself. Online classes provide the student with more opportunities to be successful in their coursework. Online courses can be completed based on the student's own schedule, provide for faster and less nervous interactions with instructors, and in many cases, are more educationally beneficial setting alternatives to traditional, face-to-face classes. In fact, Sixty-seven percent of academic professionals evaluated online courses as equivalent to as or better than face-to-face courses (Lytle).
A main concern that many students have while attending college is time. Trying to find the time to work, spend time with their family, and go to school can be very stressful for some students. Someone who does not work, or doesn’t have kids might not have an issue with fitting time into their schedule for traditional classes. For the students who do have a busy life might find it harder to attend a traditional classroom, so they have the option of taking online classes and making the classes fit around their time schedule.
Primary characteristics, such as age, gender, and ethnicity, and secondary characteristics, such as occupation, income, and marital status, can have implications on a student’s persistence. Most online learners are married and work full-time, making time management crucial as they juggle between their family, work, and school responsibilities.
It is important for students to have time for themselves. One time, I had a massive pile of homework. That same day I also had a major soccer game the on same night. Often, I would work constantly on my homework any time I had free. Since I did this, I could play in the soccer match the following day. Also, on most weekends I would have loads of projects due on Monday. Over the weekend, I would plan out when to do the different projects. On Friday afternoon, I would work on one project, on Saturday I would work on a different project, and on Sunday I would work on the last project. In using this schedule, I had enough time to a watch football on Sunday afternoon. Often, I would also pay attention more in all of my classes, so I would not have to study as much for the test. Usually, I also wouldn't have very much
In today’s technological advancements, people have various options to educating themselves online. “All education is self-education [...] We don’t learn anything we don’t want to learn.” (Chernoff). Much of the learning process is self education, and one can only learn what one desires to learn. The people who receive a real education are the one’s who take initiative to self educate themselves. This has been made substantially easier due to the Internet. Nowadays, there are so many online courses available, which allow students to work at
To build an online course there must be a process; this process needs to incorporate the methods of instructional design and applying these components into an online format. The overall end result is that the student learning outcomes are developed into instructional activities used for learning. Key decisions were made into developing the online design. Online education is cost-effective, efficient, and easily accessible (Schmeeckle, 2003). Online classes are used for individual and independent learning, in which the student can learn at their own pace (Gonzalez, 2009). Not only is online education beneficial for breaking down barriers, online education has the potential to help students learn material more efficiently. Students are more likely to seek help from their instructors when the material is taught online (Whipp & Lorentz, 2009). Computer use in statistical classes can help decrease math anxiety (Gundy, Morton, Liu, & Kline, 2006).
