Do you ever just look at someone who looks, or sounds different from you and consider them not normal? on the inside we are all human beings so we shouldn 't be narrow minded against others looks, or differences because what you don’t think is normal could be normal to someone else. If everyone was the same their would be no uniqueness, or variety everything would just be plain and dull. I agree with Safwat Saleem that being normal isn 't always good; especially if it means being trapped in the boundaries of society and not being able to express yourself. Many cultures, and people speak differently among each other, so just because you speak differently then a person from a different background doesn’t mean your not normal. Back in the ancient times people were very close minded and kept their thoughts small on what was the norm to them, they wouldn’t even see colors that weren 't normal to them, but now we can expand our horizons and extend what we see as normal. As humans we must get past …show more content…
Don’t be afraid to change what you think is normal, because what 's new could also be better, if you live a close minded life your only closing yourself to the undiscovered things the world has to offer. History was made to learn about the past and the mistakes our ancestors made, So as our intelligence grows our behavior should grow up to, and look at people for who they are, instead of what they are. We are all humans inside and out so we shouldn’t be so ignorant towards how others look or talk just because its different from you. I agree with Safwat Saleem that there 's no being normal, if that means having to sacrifice who you are. If we all just loosen up on what we think is normal, we can all grow stronger as a
deviations and find themselves perfectly normal. For people shouldnt have that thought that what they
...mans that we are today. Loving and supporting others no matter of your likings is the nature of life. Being violent and showing hate towards others is also part of life, unfortunately. Humans are vulnerable to the world socially and physically. There is no correct answer what actually makes humans normal. Everyone is normal in their own way and no matter what a person do, there will always be others that will judge you and find any way possible to dislike you. That’s why a person needs to be themselves and do what make them happy because nobody is perfect. Humans being humans is what makes life livable and dependable and humans dependable.
Saleem states that he’s seen in statistics that normal maybe seen in color and gender. Which in a way are very many schools and jobs use “normal views.” We know that reviewers will find more spelling errors in your writing if they think you're black. We know that professors are less likely to help female or minority students. And we know that resumes with white-sounding names get more callbacks than resumes with black-sounding names.” Why do we, use the norm to see the “difference” in people that have. Different in a way is good to be around, you get to learn new cultures and new ways of life. So why is normal so judged? Well “ Because of our expectations of what is normal.” (Saleem 2016) our expectations are what we see as the norm is, which is what we live around. “But studies also show that discrimination of this kind, in most cases, is simply favoritism, and it results from more from wanting to help people that you can relate to than the desire to harm people that you can't relate to.” (Saleem 2016) What if we don’t mean the norm in people? We need to start becoming one and enjoy each other's differences.
Once you are born, you become a part of a larger group. You will grow up starting at a point in your parent's life and then over time they or even you will change the direction of your families subculture in whatever country you all live in. In America, People strive for the best. Not all get it, but somehow or someone will push that family into a situation where they can move up in the world. Over the years America has came to a point where most jobs pay well and mostly anyone can be considered a middle class resident. In America this is considered normal to the general public. Being normal and striving to be normal is the focus most people try to reach within their lifetimes. Normality is a subculture in itself.
A social norm is classified as a standard expectation of what is the correct or deemed acceptable conduct that a member of a society has. The social norm that I chose to violate is the one where as I describe, you evade people’s personal space. What defines giving people their personal space and not getting too close, is that out of respect in my opinion, people need to have space to breathe and to move. If you get too close to people, either the person is going to think you are sexually intimidating him or she, you are just creepy, or even worse think you are rude for intimidating a right people have to be inches away from you. As I was getting ready to do the assignment of monitoring the reactions I would get for violating any social norm of my choice, I had a hard time thinking about which social norm I was going to
Everyone has different opinions on what is normal and what is not normal. Some people think giving junk food to their children is not normal and some people think that it is completely normal and okay. Some people think getting married at a young age is normal and some people don’t think it is okay to get married until you have your life together. We can never as a society judge someone by what they personally feel is right or wrong and there are many things that people will disagree on but what matters is what is morally right and sane. That is why we have laws and consequences for the things we do morally wrong like murder, rape, etc.
Social psychology is a scientific study that studies how people think, feel, and how they behave under the influence of other people (Aronson, Wilson & Akert, 2013, p. 2). Thinking about what social influence really means, we tend to think of a person who tries to persuade another person to acting a certain way. It can be a form of peer pressure, like taking that first puff of a cigarette, or it can be conforming to popular societal views, such as obeying the law of the land. Fiction is a great way to learn about social psychological perspectives. Watching popular theatrical films is the perfect way to learn because it illustrates the application of many perceptions within the subject of social psychology.
When comparing myself to the standards of the rest of America I consider myself normal. As an American teen in today's society I believe normal is undefined because there are too many different cultures and beliefs. Since people have become more segregated by race, religion and beliefs, normality can only be based on their own cultures standards depending on what the individual has been accustomed to. In the new millennium, it would not be unheard of for a family to be raised by a grandparent, or even two homosexual parents. I would not call that "normal" or "regular" behavior, but because it is accepted more now than before you know that the definition of weird or exotic has changed. I define normal as what the majority of the American population does. Maybe this is a poor choice of definition, seeing as how we try to stray away from doing what others do or say. I feel that independence is one thing, but if you are not doing what the "in-crowd" is doing then face it, you are an outcast. No one should feel this way, but it is a fact that some do. Since when did not being normal become terrible? In Borders as Barriers: Otherness and Difference by Randall Bass, they present "national geographic nudity". When I read this article, I thought that they were trying to say that it is okay for the natives to be nude because that is what they were accustomed to. On the other hand, people in America just think it is weird because we wear clothes. I somewhat agree with that idea. My only objection is why would it be a shock to see an American in that setting nude also? Bass also talked about exotic by our meaning could be related to "foreign" or "unusual". Even though those words may seem harsh to describe someone, it ...
Most people want to be normal. The definition of normal however, depends on the culture of the person making the judgment. Far too often, normal is defined in America by looking at the actions and beliefs of the average white middle class family. This definition of normal fails to let other cultures to be accepted, creating distance and misunderstanding.
Being born into a social class is something that every person should be proud of. You see it in all types of classes. People take pride in who they are and where they come from. Nobody is normal, because their is a uniqueness in all of us that separates ourselves from each other. Although a lot of times we look at the middle-class as being normal, the same can be said for the lower and upper classes. In our own eyes we are normal, but to others, we are always going to look somewhat different. As long as TV continues to run programs depicting "all-American" families, and the majority of our nations population remains in the middle-class, we will always look at the hard-working man, his wife, kids, dog, and cozy house as being the definition of normal in this country.
As people socialize, they create interactions whose products are influential to act back upon the people to determine or constrain actions. Moreover, social interactions may be likened to a theatre whereby people are the actors as the rest of the people are the audience. These other people actively observe the role-playing and respond by reacting to the performances. However, people’s behaviors tend to change when they are alone as they get rid of the roles they play in front of others.
There are many causes and reasons on why we are prone or more likely to help certain groups of people compared to another when they are in trouble and in need of our help. One of the reasons that might influence one’s helping behavior is social norm. Social norm of helping can tell us why or when we should help other people when they need our help. Social norm is a putative behavior that an individual is expected to do and obeys to in any particular groups or community that can also be a basis for any acceptable and good behaviors. In other words, social norm can help people to decide on what they should do in any uncertain situations. Norms can also influence someone’s behavior and reasons on why they do what they do.
To be considered normal or abnormal has been just a label society places on you to explain individuality. When we are younger, we were given a mixed message that being different and unique is acceptable, however growing up in a society that wants you to blend in and adhere to the norms and usual customs of that culture is difficult. Being dissimilar often leads you to be judged and considered deviant. What you perceive not only defines your idiosyncratic judgment, so does your culture, prejudices, upbringing and generation you belong to. In our modern day society a universal normal has not, nor ever will exist. We think, look and all act differently and the reality of it is, no one is normal.
It’s important to be comfortable in your own skin if you want to stay happy in life. Besides, Normal is a relative term. For a bird flying is normal, but to an elephant it might be a miracle. 2) Don’t let anyone tell you that you can't do anything Every person is capable of doing great things.
Interaction with people helps us know about them and we can comprehend their behavior in different situation and circumstances without getting surprised by their action. The candid conversation is helpful in expressing one’s thought but it can be fatal sometime. I believe that there has be a balance between being too extrovert and being too introvert. It is a common belief that introvert people are shy, they cannot speak in the presence of other. But the truth is that introverts are not shy, they prefer to be alone by choice. They feel energized and more productive when they are alone rather than surrounded by people. We can say that energy is drained in the presence of other. While extroverts are the outgoing people and feel energized in the presence of other. They think best when they are speaking. I am a person who is neither too introvert and nor too extrovert. I think I am more productive, thoughtful and can take better decisions when I am alone. At the same time I like hanging out with people and talking to them, but there is a limit to it. I think it is a good quality for a manager that he is neither too introvert nor too extrovert. If a manger is introvert he cannot perform his job properly as his job involves speaking to his co-workers and delegating the responsibilities to individuals commensurate to the individual’s experience and capabilities. The manager can know about the strength and weakness of his team by speaking to them. He cannot just sit in the office and know about the individual by looking at the profile of the person. On the other hand if the manager is extrovert and spends too much time among the team members, then there is a possibility th...
