In the article “When Mosquitoes Were Killers in America” by Lauren Tarshis, She makes the statement “Yet mosquitoes are far more than a nuisance.” What she means is that mosquitoes aren't a little bug that just sucks a little blood and can be annoying, but instead it uses all that and more. Mosquitoes have killed millions upon millions of people by spreading disease like malaria. An example of how she supports this claim is in the article, she says “ In this way, bite by itchy bite, 212 million people are infected with malaria every year” (Tarshis 13). And that is only a year with bug spray, shots, and all the other things that help stop mosquitoes. So when the U.S. government tried to save people from these murders little insects. So they
On an endless road of meadows and half collapsed barns exists a quaint town living its motto “The City of Progress”. Enterprise, Alabama is stuck between miles of bleak pastures and feeding cows, but the peanut factory overwhelms your every breath. The monotonous drive does have a reward, and it can only be found hiding in a valley of small stores and baptist churches on downtown’s main street. It is a statue that reminisces this town’s story of triumph over its struggling economy during the decline of cotton. Sculpted from stone, a woman is presenting a boll weevil in honor for its efforts in destroying the crop, cotton, Enterprise, Alabama’s main economic source.
At approximately 2153hrs I arrived on the 1A unit to talk with a resident about an issue of him not be allowed to go into another resident’s room to help that resident with moving his TV. I explained to him he could not enter another resident’s room. This action is not allowed. He complied and walked away. After I completed talking with the resident involved in this situation I was approached by another resident to hear his problem. Afterwards at about 2206hrs as I walked over to speak with staff I watched and listened to resident Wright and SSTT Bowden have a verbal disagreement? Within this exchange I heard the resident say to the staff “bitch shut up”. Then SSTT Bowden responded with “you shut the fuck up”. Once it got to that point I
Forensic entomology is most commonly used in suspicious criminal cases. P.C. White (2010) suggests that insects are responsive to certain stimuli and from this we are able to capture an insight into an insects contribution to crime solving. We can determine many different aspects of a case by the presence of different insects colonising a dead body, blowflies for example, are the first to approach the body when its fresh. This is due to their preference of food sources. Ultimately, I will explicitly focus on the relevance of a blowfly at a crime scene.
1. How does the kissing bug (e.g., Rhodnius sp., Triatoma dimidiate ) locate its human prey?
For this lab investigation, our question was do pillbugs prefer vinegar or plain water in their environment? Our hypothesis was that if they were given the choice, then they would choose the water side because their natural environment is not as acidic as vinegar. After we tested this hypothesis, the data that we collected over the course of 20 minutes supported our theory. At the end of the first minute, there were 3 pillbugs on the vinegar side, and 37 pillbugs on the water side. Then, after 10 minutes, there were 4 pillbugs on the vinegar side, 30 pillbugs on the water side and 6 pillbugs that were missing. After 15 minutes, 4 pillbugs were on the vinegar side, 28 were on the water side and 8 were missing. Finally, at the end of the 20th minute, there were 3 pillbugs on

Pillbugs, A.K.A. sowbugs, are terrestrial isopods that belong to the Crustacea class. Other crustaceans that pillbugs are related to are lobsters, crabs, shrimp, and crayfish. These small, half inch creatures are classified as Arthropods due to their jointed legs. They have two pairs of antennae, four pairs of mouthparts, and seven main “torso” segments. After molting four or five times, a pillbug has entered adulthood. They first shed their posterior half of the skin, then, about two to three days later, the anterior half of the skin is shed. Pillbugs can be found in moist areas, such as near a broken sprinkler or under a decaying log. This is because the pillbugs, being crustaceans, breathe with gills, and must get their water through the

Settlers from the eastern United States and from faraway European countries brought many different farming traditions to Kansas when the land was opened for settlement in 1854. These people also often brought seeds from their homes. Many farmers planted corn and experimented with planting oats, cotton, tobacco, and grape vineyards. These crops did not grow as well as wheat in Kansas.
Bed of nails is originated at India and the practice is used today as primarily form of entertainment in festivals, shows and other events meant to surprise and impress the audience. A nail can certainly be harmful, but a certain amount of force can be applied to a nail head before pain takes place. A person’s weight can spread out over many nails and feel no pain. If a person lay on a bed of nail, the person’s weight is more or less evenly distributed on a nail. Since each nail undergoes a small amount of weight, the person experienced no pain. The general purpose of this study is to find out why some people can lay safely on a bed of nail without getting injured and prevent skin damage.
Forensic entomology is the learning of all types of insects and how they connect with criminal investigation. Forensic entomology can tell us how long since the offspring’s death which is known as postmortem interval (PMI) and whether the body has been relocated since putting one foot in the grave, and what injuries it may have suffered. At the start of decomposition, insects launch a new community by hatching eggs on the remains; the eggs will emerge into cankers (larvae) that will graze upon the human organs and tissues. A Forensic entomologists can figure out what specific bugs are presently in the body and gauge how long the body has been left unprotected by investigating how far along the cankers have come; although, what is found isn’t
Upon arrival I could detect a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from room#5110 due to my training and past encounters. I proceeded to knock on the exterior door of room #5110. Rachel Gilddens (student/resident) answered the door. I presented myself and my agency and asked Giddens if she was the tenant of the apartment in which she stated ''Yes.''
The existing or traditional approach to reporting potential public health problems is a manual process reliant on individuals within individual hospitals/medical facilities to identify such potential threats or issues. Physicians or laboratories within the hospital identify any potential health risks and then compile a report on the issue. The identification of the issue/risk is reliant on individual hospitals tracking the volume numbers of patients with similar symptoms. This report is than faxed or posted to the local public health authority. The public health authority, on receipt of the report, will phone the hospital in question for any additional information it requires before it is in a position to make any decisions or taken any relevant preventative measures.
