Over the years animals have become more important to humans. They have quickly become a part of the family, and are just as important as any other member. My entire life I've had a passion for caring for animals and that is why i'm determined to pursue a career as a veterinarian technician. Just like humans, animals can become ill or injured ,and they must see a Veterinarian to help them heal and get well. A vet tech’s job is to assist a vet in caring for sick and injured animals. I have decided to go to Alabama A & M University to obtain a degree and continue my dream of becoming a vet tech.
To begin I must attend college and earn the class credits necessary to obtain the degree I desire. The college I will be attending is Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama. In order to be accepted a student must have a 2.0 GPA, and a composite predictive index score of 18. Three important classes required for a vet tech are College Chemistry I, Human Anatomy and Physiology I, and Organic Chemistry. College Chemistry is a mix between general, organic and biochemistry. Human Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the human body and how it functions. Organic Chemistry is the chemistry of carbon compounds. A student must first take all the English,

art, language, science, math, and history prerequisites. Before graduating the University, all the academic requirements must be fulfilled, financial obligations must be paid, and I must complete exit counseling. Next I would like to talk about the professional considerations involved in obtaining this degree.
There are many requirements that have to be met on the journey to becoming a vet tech. I will have to begin by taking a crediting exam followed by a veterinarian technician national exam. Once the required exams are passed, I will have to become licensed, certified, and registered. On average a certified vet tech makes approximately $30,000 a year. There isn't really a way to advance as a vet tech unless I wanted to go back to college and get my veterinarian degree. Although I will have to work hard and overcome many obstacles when I reach my goal of being able to help animals every day, it will all be worth
it. To continue I want to discuss the personal considerations that should be taken into account when pursuing this career. A difficult part of being a vet tech is the endless hours. Vet techs usually work around 40 hours a week on a normal 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they have to be prepared to work on call at all times. They have to be prepared to be called upon at anytime in the case of an emergency. Another important part of becoming a vet tech is choosing where I want to work. I would prefer to work close to Foley, Alabama. There are many vet clinics and a large need for vet techs. Many vets in this location are well known and could teach me to become an outstanding vet tech. I am determined to pursue a career as a vet tech due to my passion for animals. There will be numerous hurdles to overcome in obtaining this degree. First, one must posses all the requirements to attend, all classes must be completed, and the most important prerequisite is the will to perform one’s duty. As excited as I am to attend Alabama A & M, I know that being away from home, and the compelling hours will be stressful.
To become a vet tech you have to go through the proper education and training required. An associate’s degree in veterinary technology is required to become a vet tech and takes about two years to accomplish (Exploring Medical Careers). An internship may also be a requirement of the tech course (Interview with a Veterinary Technician). Along with the degree, the Veterinary Technician National Exam must be passed to become certified. These tests cost $300.00 and are 170 questions long. The VTNE also offers two practice exams, each $45, to help one prepare for the actual exam (Vet Tech | VTNE | Veterinary Technician National Examination.). After becoming certified, a vet tech may have to undergo on the job training under supervision by a vet or an experienced vet tech (Collegegrad.com).

When she was little she could only dream of becoming a veterinarian. Now she is fulfilling her dreams as a Veterinary Technician. "Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life”(Henry Hernandez). Being a Veterinary Tech is really a lot of fun as long as you are passionate love with animals. One reason to become a Veterinary Tech is because they get to meet new animals and take care of them too. This career is very important because the well-being of animals is just as important as the well-being of humans(Vet Tech Guide). Animals need to be thought of humans just in a different shape. Loving, respecting, and comforting animals is just a small part in the career of a Veterinary Technician; being detail oriented, strong, and being educated are also very important qualities for a veterinary technician to have.
I am extremely interested in pursuing my life career as a veterinary technician because I believe any animal’s welfare and stability is just as important as a human being’s. I absolutely...
I am a biology and chemistry major at Harford Community College and am working to obtain an associate of science degree in biology and chemistry- calculus based physics from HCC. My plan is to transfer to the University of Maryland and study Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine with the goal of entering Veterinary School. I have been working towards veterinary school since I was fourteen years old. My passion for the subject began while I was working at Olney Farm, a horse farm in Fallston, MD. I began horseback riding at ten-years old and started volunteering at the farm within five months of my first lesson.
For as long as I can remember, my childhood dream has always been wanting to become a veterinarian. While other kids were outside having fun at the playground, I was at the library reading books and learning about the different animals. However, as I matured, I realized that being a veterinarian isn’t just about caring for and assisting injured animals. Being a veterinarian means having the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations, showing complete dedication and passion to this profession, and being able to effectively communicate to pet owners.
In order to be a large animal veterinarian you must have to complete at least four years of college. You do not need a masters degree, only a bachelor’s degree.Your undergraduate education should mostly focus on the following: biology, zoology, physiology, anatomy, and microbiology. Colleges and universities, such as Colorado State University and the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science are well known for their veterinary medicine programs. These school are just a few among many schools that have good programs in veterinary medicine.
To understand and compare to more of a human perspective “vet techs could be compared to nurses in human care while vet assistants would be more along the lines of a CNA.” (Veterinarianedu.org, 2017). Vet assistants are normally the ones that have duties such as customer service, cleaning and grooming the animals and setting up appointments. A lot of Vet Assistants can do the work that a Vet Technician can do but the biggest difference is that the Vet Techs can perform more technical tasks such as dental cleanings, X-rays
For anyone to become a veterinarian, one must have all the necessary requirements for both education and on the job training. During high school, science courses are highly recommended. After high school, one must obtain their doctor of veterinary medicine degree. To achieve this goal, Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center says one must “attend 4 years at college of veterinary medicine, complete 45-90 hours of undergraduate study, and must pass at least one examination in the state at in which they intend to practice” (3-4 2014). During a person’s schooling, Veterinarians are expected to make decent grades and to show an interest for learning the sciences as well as technology. Besides having the education, a person must also indulge in some training both on the job and in shadowing experiences. Most if not all training will be completed in veterinarian school and will allow the veterinarian to start working right away. “According to the 2006-07 edition of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, in 2004 annual sala...
Through my experiences, I have learned the reality of veterinary medicine. It is not about playing with puppies and kittens. My clients might not appreciate me, my patients might be difficult, I may get frustrated, and I might not make much money. Yet veterinary medicine is about more than that. It is a career with purpose, a lifelong source of challenge, personal growth, fulfilled academic curiosity, and opportunities to impact lives, both human and animal. In return, I offer a strong scientific aptitude, along with a diverse background and natural empathy. It will not be easy, but a degree in veterinary medicine is, without a doubt, my next pivotal step in

As mentioned before, college is not a necessity to become a veterinary assistant; therefore, no colleges have specific courses to take for this career. Some colleges carry animal science which could be useful in this career field, but probably wouldn’t give me enough hands-on training in this field. I could supplement my veterinary assistant training by learning additional skills at any of the following
Some colleges need proof of rabies vaccines as well as up to 80 hours of volunteering in an animal shelter or clinic. After being accepted in the program you will spend 2 years studying plus a 6 week practicum (hands-on work). At the end of all of this, you must pass the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Examination), which lasts 4 hours and consists of 200 multiple choice questions. After passing the exam, you must register with the CVMA (Canadian Veterinary Medical Association) and your provincial regulating body. Like veterinarians, you are also able to further your learning and specialize in certain areas. There are 10 colleges with programs accredited by the OAVT (Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians). As for the veterinary technologist, they just spend an extra year in college. Only one college in Ontario offer this
If I get into the tech-center i’ll have the training and all the basics of what a veterinarian would need and I could find out if becoming a vet is something I want to do for a permanent career. I want to be able to have the proper training of what I need to know to start off with this career. It is said from other veterinarians that I have talked to, that you have to be able to stay focused in a complex environment. Since animals cannot physically speak, it is spoken that this career path could be challenging and nothing is the
