I’m interested in becoming a Nursing Assistant, because I want to give back to my community and educate myself better within another branch of health care other than my intended career. In the past two years of volunteering at Aurora West Allis Hospital, I have noticed how nurse assistants have a respectful, but beneficial relationship with patients to stimulate their recovery. After learning about my opportunity to apply for this position, I took the initiative to conduct an investigation about the career. In my personal perspective the patients’ needs are a priority, and knowing that it’s a principle in this position engaged me to apply. Being able to form part of this team would allow me to interact with patients and staff in a more professional
level, engaging my current knowledge and expanding my skills to provide a better healthcare experience to the patient. As a minority and second language speaker, knowing how to interact with other cultures has been a unique experience, because it has allowed me to provide different services to others. Within the career of a nurse assistant, my passions and desires to help others would be achieved. Finally, I can see myself applying the experiences I will gain from this profession by assisting patients, our Milwaukee community, and the staff that will be working with me.

I found a job as CNA for the patient who had disabilities. One patient in particular changed the direction of my life and started me thinking about working in medicine. I took care of an older woman who was unable to ambulate due to her diagnosis of stroke. She experienced chronic weakness of bilateral lower extremity so I supported her with my arms to steady her. When I looked into her eyes, I could feel her saying, “you truly care about me, understand me, and thank you for taking the time to sense my expression and desire.” That’s the care all of us have deep inside, where our motives no longer become self-seeking but other-seeking. Both my current job and are dream jobs are in the medical field they are very similar yet different. Teaching is part of being a nurse (Angelo, 2015). Being a nurse does not only end at providing full care to the patients but also includes proper teaching about the patients’ disease and medications. Patient’s education should happen when opportunities come, especially before discharge. By teaching them prior to discharge and providing them hand-outs, pamphlets or websites to find important information about their disease and medication, they will be ready to administer their own medications and be informed about their disease. Good personality is also vital in nursing practice (Angelo, 2015). It is not only what a nurse has learned in school or the skills and knowledge that he or she acquired from clinical instructors that are important, but also the whole make-up of a nurse’s own self. For example, a knowledgeable nurse is fully equipped with the skills in dressing a wound, but will never be an effective nurse if he or she does not know how to behave while performing the skill. The facial expressions and body language showing that a nurse is uncomfortable seeing the wound makes him or her unsuitable for the job.
