This movie relies on lighting because it lets the viewers know how the movie will be. For example, this movie uses a lot of dark lighting to add to the gloomy and ominous feeling. The opening scene sets the mood for the entire movie and starting with this nightmare gives the movie a feeling of foreshadowing. This movie uses wide angles, zoom shots, high angles, low angles, and point of view shots. In this film, scenes with Ethan and Lena are often wide angles. Many directors use this angle, in romance movies to intensify the love between two people. It also, lets the audience see how isolated Ethan and Lena are. The I’m Sorry scene uses wide angle and deep focus shots very effectively; The wide angle in this scene shows Ethan and Lena’s love, passion, and connection. The fighting scenes use high and low angle shots because it tells the audience who is more powerful. When Lena becomes more powerful the lower the camera angle is; This is done so, the viewers see Lena as the most powerful evil witch because she believes Ethan is dead. Close-ups are used to show emotion in the characters’ faces and, allows the viewers to feel the emotions the characters do. For example, in the ending scene, the audience know Ethan remembers Lena because they can see the emotion on Ethan’s …show more content…
Smash cuts are used a lot in this film; Some examples include when Ethan wakes up from his nightmares, and when Lena gets mad and uses her magic to break the windows on her classmates. Throughout this movie J-cuts are used whenever Ethan is narrating; his voice starts before when seeing any action. Cutting on action is used when the characters are walking through doors and fighting other characters. An example would be when Ethan goes into Lena’s home and sees a leg behind the door and immediately leaves. Another example would be when Lena is fighting her mother. L-cuts are used mainly when the characters are speaking to each other. An example would be when the teacher is addressing the class, it shows the teacher’s expressions as well as the students’. One scene that uses dissolve cut the best is the Petition scene. In this scene, Sarafine’s disguised as Mrs. Lincoln, reveals herself to Macon, after the crowd dissolves into the background. As their argument ends, the parents of the Gatlin high school kids dissolve back in to view as Macon is yelling “THAT IS A LIE”. Macon looks foolish, crazy, and helps Mrs. Lincoln / Sarafine’s case to prevent Lena from going back to school. An example of cross-cut would be when Lena controls the weather after Ethan died; the cross-cut shows how the community is dealing with the storm versus Lena,
If I wanted to cut a piece of paper that had three invoice slips on it into separate pieces, I would first look for a pair of scissors, as they are relatively safe and appropriate for the task. However if there are no scissors available, I may instead opt to use a ruler to tear the paper instead, as although it is not the most appropriate tool for the task, in the situation it would be time and cost effective. It also doesn’t matter too much if the edges are jagged on an invoice slip. If I had to cut something in a more presentable way I may have to take the less efficient option and check with another department to see if they had scissors I could use.

Having to take your anger out on someone isn’t fair or good, especially if you’re being killed with frozen lamb. Based on everyone’s understanding, when you kill someone you’ll have to pay the price and consequences. Apparently this lady didn’t. But are we sure she’s going to marry another man and kill him too? In “Lamb to the slaughter”, I’m going to be talking about Mary Maloney and how madly crazy she is.
American consumers think of voting as something to be done in a booth when election season comes around. In fact, voting happens with every swipe of a credit card in a supermarket, and with every drive-through window order. Every bite taken in the United States has repercussions that are socially, politically, economically, and morally based. How food is produced and where it comes from is so much more complicated than the picture of the pastured cow on the packaging seen when placing a vote. So what happens when parents are forced to make a vote for their children each and every meal? This is the dilemma that Jonathan Safran Foer is faced with, and what prompted his novel, Eating Animals. Perhaps one of the core issues explored is the American factory farm. Although it is said that factory farms are the best way to produce a large amount of food at an affordable price, I agree with Foer that government subsidized factory farms use taxpayer dollars to exploit animals to feed citizens meat produced in a way that is unsustainable, unhealthy, immoral, and wasteful. Foer also argues for vegetarianism and decreased meat consumption overall, however based on the facts it seems more logical to take baby steps such as encouraging people to buy locally grown or at least family farmed meat, rather than from the big dogs. This will encourage the government to reevaluate the way meat is produced. People eat animals, but they should do so responsibly for their own benefit.
Michael MacDonald’S All Souls is a heart wrenching insider account of growing up in Old Country housing projects located in the south of Boston, also known as Southie to the locals. The memoir takes the reader deep inside the world of Southie through the eyes of MacDonald. MacDonald was one of 11 children to grow up and deal with the many tribulations of Southie, Boston. Southie is characterized by high levels of crime, racism, and violence; all things that fall under the category of social problem. Social problems can be defined as “societal induced conditions that harms any segment of the population. Social problems are also related to acts and conditions that violate the norms and values found in society” (Long). The social problems that are present in Southie are the very reasons why the living conditions are so bad as well as why Southie is considered one of the poorest towns in Boston. Macdonald’s along with his family have to overcome the presence of crime, racism, and violence in order to survive in the town they consider the best place in the world.
Also it lets the audience relate to the character as without words you get the suspense and the facial expressions of the characters imply what they are thinking an example Lara tending to look down when she is vulnerable or smirk when she has one over the men. The long shots of the tomb are very well taken as they seem to always have a character in the viewpoint so it reflects the extreme size of everything else i.e. the stone statues of the king. The shot where Lara is walking on the steps is very effective as it. shows the angle of her feet and focuses on where her next step will be. placed which automatically places the suspense in the audience to make them wonder, will she fall or wont she?
The Flowers By Alice Walker Written in the 1970's The Flowers is set in the deep south of America and is about Myop, a small 10-year old African American girl who explores the grounds in which she lives. Walker explores how Myop reacts in different situations. She writes from a third person perspective of Myop's exploration. One popular camera technique used in films is panning. Camera panning can emphasize emotion in films. According to a writer on camera techniques, "Following the subject's gaze down to the floor may symbolize rejection or desperation and loss. The moves work because they are related to your story" (Stevenson). In the movie Requiemfor a Dream, panning came into play in a particularly important scene. Marion, a main character, was walking down a hallway. She just had sex with someone she didn't like to get some money for drugs. The camera was right in front of her face, and portrayed the emptiness in her eyes. She was glancing towards the floor and looked like she was going to throw up. The camera also followed her face so closely, that you could tell how fast she was walking. The panning portrayed her feelings and actions so well, that it made the scene more interesting. It was a lot better than just seeing a view of someone head-on.
There is perhaps no greater joy in life than finding one’s soul mate. Once found, there is possibly no greater torment than being forced to live without them. This is the conflict that Paul faces from the moment he falls in love with Agnes. His devotion to the church and ultimately God are thrown into the cross hairs with the only possible outcome being one of agonizing humiliation. Grazia Deledda’s The Mother presents the classic dilemma of having to choose between what is morally right and being true to one’s own heart. Paul’s inability to choose one over the other consumes his life and everyone in it.
This scene also incorporates a clever usage of camera angles. The viewers are able to see from both Neff and Phyllis’ perspectives. Long shots are used as a way to see all the action happening. Close ups are used to highlight character’s emotions, Philly’s in particular as she not only tries to murder Neff, but she gets killed herself. Camera panning, which is steady camera movement, is used to follow Neff - even in his darkest hours, the audience follows him through his deplorable
Heaven and Earth by Arturo Riojas is a thought provoking sci-fi/fantasy novel with a strong persuasive influence. The writer has very strong beliefs backed by plenty of research and the result is a very informative and touching story that will leave you wondering, what exactly is going on around us while we are clearly unaware? Influenced strongly by real world issues this story will likely entangle any reader who is even somewhat intrigued by government corruption and I mean who nowadays isn't? This is the tale of a future world much like our world now poisoned by itself and on the edge of self destruction and a neighboring species and their desire to solve similar problems on their own planet Treretum.
This kind of shot is making the scene more power full and making the subject look strong the effects given the surroundings. HIGH-ANGLE SHOT High Angle shot are basically looking down on the subject from high position and focusing often to the main object. Usually they use this to make the scene more dramatic. In this part of the movie wherein the emotion are more powerful because of the right camera angle use. EYE-LEVEL SHOT Eye level shot its use the height of the subject a neutral way of shot and usually no dramatic power unlike the high and low shot.
Before digging deep into this video essay’s focus – the graphical match cut; we first need to understand the basis of this popular, yet artistic cut. Let’s start by defining continuity editing. In editing, Continuity is “the way in which different parts of a film or television programme are joined together so that the action happens without any
