Kindness Prevails “The Bead Fairy” by Cherie Dimaline shows us how the quietest individuals hold profound influence compared to more known individuals, by showing kindness and compassion to others. This is shown in the protagonist's reflection on bead digging: "But for those two glorious years, one [can] work in close companionship with their peers, digging for the esoteric in the ordinary dust of a school yard. It [is] beautiful. You [feel] like Indiana Jones doing that meticulous work. You [feel] capable of magic" (Dimaline). Firstly, this quotation shows the reader how much joy a simple act of kindness can bring. The words “magic”, “beautiful”, and “glorious”, show the amount of excitement …show more content…

. . But here we are [are]. Rachel Grenier, the kid everyone [hates], the kid who [gets] beat up and put down, not because she [is] fat but because she [is] indifferent to the taunts,. . . Rachel Grenier [is] the goddamn Bead Fairy. I [don’t] realize [I’m] crying until the snot [hits] my top lip. I [wipe] it off my sleeve” (Dimaline). This scene shows what the effect on the protagonist was after realizing someone quiet, and often ignored, is doing something kind and compassionate that is bringing joy to many characters in the story. They start to cry without even knowing about it, as the person who was bringing them joy was there the whole time, but they never realized it and instead thought it was a more well-known person. Those who bring us the most joy are the ones we know the least, the quiet ones in the corner who surprise us and make our day. You might think it might be someone popular or well-known, but it is always the person right under our noses, the protagonist realizes this in the end. In conclusion, “The Bead Fairy” by Cherie Dimaline shows how even quiet people, compared to more well-known people, can bring joy to others through kindness.
