The Battle of Culiacan The Battle of Culiacan marked a turning point in Mexico's war on drugs, illustrating the influence of drug cartels on national security. Further, this event displayed the reality of the brutal reality of cartels internationally. The group responsible for this event is known as *Cartel de Sinaloa* or the Sinaloa Cartel, which is the most powerful criminal group in Mexico and in some parts of the U.S. The battle of Culiacan was devastating for Mexico. Furthermore, the Sinaloa Cartel is one of the only international cartels out there with reach from North America all the way to Asia. Culiacan is a very corrupt city due to the fact the Sinaloa cartel practically owns that city and the cartel buys and steals from the military for their weapons and gear. The once safe city has turned into a war zone and the battle had two police officers killed,four civilians killed with twenty one injured,and eight military personnel killed.However this event changed Mexico's policies drastically by making police salaries higher to make them less likely to accept bribes,you can be arrested for having gang tattoos,and they increased the sentence for drug smuggling.The citizens of Mexico will never forget the crisis that occurred here.Further this event will mark a new point in history of Mexico's war on drugs.
