The NBA is a league that brings us the game of basketball on our televisions, to cities around the Untied States, and even over seas. This league has brought so much to the table, but about 70 years ago it was two leagues divided and fighting for the title of the marque league. One of the leagues that were in the struggle for supremacy of the game of basketball was called the National Basketball League.

Even though the BAA was still shaky at best it was the best option for the NBL to be absorbed because of the shift of their own teams to the new flashy BAA, where they played in front of more people. In simpler terms the BAA had the arenas and the NBL had the players and teams that succeed. (The NBA, 2007) The National basketball league (NBL) and the Basketball Association of America (BAA) had been in battle for a few years now, but finally came to terms to make up one league called the National Basketball Association (NBA) the new director of the newly founded league was the old BAA one Maurice Podoloff .(NBA is born) the creation of the NBA had many perks in the long run, one was the game as it is today wouldn’t be possible if it was not for the merge because right about when the two leagues merged they saw a lost in fan base, money, and teams over about a 8 year span post merge. The new league had to act quickly, and they did by introducing the twenty-four shot clock. This brought a much faster pace to the game and once again caught the eye of the fans and money and attendance shot up once more. (NBA is Born) this movement was the make or break it move of the somewhat new league. After the …show more content…
The means of making money for the NBA has vastly increased thought out the years. This can be linked to better technology, communications, and travel as well. The NBA has really branched outside of the states, and into the eastern part of the world, like China, Africa and Europe being the major three hotspots. (Division, 2009) The main reason why these three places are on the top because they have produced a lot of players. Also in thanks to the leadership they had for about the past few decades, Marc Stern. He did a lot to help globalize the brand of NBA. They then promote the NBA back home where their people see them as hero’s because they play the game of basketball on T.V representing them as a nation. The net the NBA can cast to make money has reached an all time high because of the foreign players they have playing and the base of where they reside and have all the games, and the way technology has advanced in the past two decades. The NBA has taken full advantage of theses opportunities and has really done good with them business wise and development wise. They are really showing the game of basketball to places that at one point were considered waste lands. They have a really big league organization called NBA cares that help out the community and back home for the players that are foreign, that’s not adding what the players do outside of
The National Basketball Association no longer holds the prominence that it once had. In the aftermath of the lockout that took away half of the 1998-99 season, the National Basketball Association finds itself looking into an uncertain future. Appearing similar to the state of the league during the mid 1980's, the NBA finds itself with a tarnished image and no icon's to build the league around. With the retirement of Michael Jordan and the number of superstars in which the league built its popularity on during the 1990's getting smaller, the National Basketball Association sits in limbo while it searches for its new identity.
College and NBA basketball aren’t that different they have many similarities and many differences. The main difference is that College has halves and NBA has quarters, The Shot clock is different too. College is 35 seconds and NBA is 24 seconds , The shooting distance is different from the 3pt line. In college you only get 5 fouls before you foul out and in the NBA you get 6. In my opinion College basketball is way more competitive and way more emotional than the NBA.
Several foreign basketball players have individually left their marks on NBA courts, in NBA record books, and in their fans’ hearts. Different ethnic groups, races, and sports fans in general have united, cheering on heroic efforts from players from overseas. These international players amped up the level of competition in basketball and found themselves at home in the NBA. Four international players have been honored with the most prestigious award a player can receive in professional basketball, NBA MVP. These same four players are undoubtedly future Hall of Famers and were listed in the top 30 international players of all time in a 2013 “Dime Magazine” article (Daruaku). These four players, Steve Nash, Tim Duncan,...

Most people in todays’ society know how competitive the NBA can be. The NBA has been around for years and years and is now beginning to be more competitive than in previous years. So many teams have so much talent that some know how to use perfectly and some use it to a minimum. The NBA has different positions like Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward and Center. These positions require specific training and skills to know how to do. Basketball was created and has been played since December 1891 (Griffiths, 2010), it is a game of skill and talent that is enjoyed by fans all over the world. There are numerous leagues, but the two main leagues are the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). The NCAA is considered amateur where the players are not paid, and the NBA is considered professional where players make millions of dollars. In order for the NBA to get their players they draft from the NCAA, but the rules have changed several times over the years that have permitted players to enter the NBA. The current rule states that NBA players must be one year removed from high school or 19 years of age (Article X, 2008), this rule is considered by many needing the most change.
Backstory of Basketball Basketball has been played since 1891, and still continues to be played today as well. Basketball is an intriguing game played by 2 teams with 5 players from each team on the court at the same time. Basketball, as it started out in 1891 had no African American athletes in the sport. That was still going on, even as late as the 1950’s.
New entrants into this industry are unusual since NBA League approval and a sharp franchise fee stand in the way of potential new team owners. Moreover, attempting to deceive the NBA would put the following difficulties into an entrepreneur’s path are: massive capital costs, lack of brand reputation, lack of TV revenue, and steep competition for talent. Extension teams occasionally do get approval, like the Charlotte Bobcats founded in 2004. Though, the competition that so many different industries face from new entrants is practically non-existent in professional basketball.
On August 3, 1949 the National Basketball League (NBL) was dissolved into the Basketball Association of American (BAA), which was started in 1946 to create the National Basketball Association. Through the merger of the two leagues into the NBA there were now 18 teams that were eventually dwindled down to eight teams. The original eight are sti...
On November 6, 1861 the great James Naismith was born in Ontario, Canada to Mr. and Mrs. John and Margaret Naismith. As a child James wasn’t very successful in school but excelled in physical activates, this triggered him to drop out of school and become a lumberjack. Soon after this he realized that he needed to turn his life around, so he went back to school to receive a degree in physical education. He later earned a job at a local YMCA in Springfield and was immediately put in task of finding a way to keep men in shape during the winter seasons. After many unsuccessful attempts he finally decided on a sport in which the players must throw a soccer ball into a peach basket on either side of the gymnasium. So on December 21, 1891 the newly formed game known as basketball had its first official game, the final score 1-0. As time passed different basketball leagues were formed the Basketball Association of America was founded in 1946 by owners of the major ice hockey arenas in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States and Canada. In 1949 the BAA joined another basketball league, the NBL, to create the currant league, the NBA. The NBA was a great success with many people. This success would led it to what it is today, a multi-billion dollar association known for consisting in a wide variety of elite athletes.

Basketball has been around for 118 years. It has evolved so much. I bet Naismith never thought that something so simple would change the world. Basketball has even changed lives, by reaching out to other countries, and all kinds of charities. For some people basketball is life, and it has even saved lives. A lot of players in the NBA have come from nothing, but since they excelled in basketball all their biggest dreams have come true. Basketball can even help you escape from all your troubles and worries. You can ask any player what it is like to step on a basketball court and I bet they will tell you it’s the best feeling in the world. Basketball really is more than a game, it’s a way of life.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball league located in the United States. It is composed of 30 franchised teams, all of which are in the US except for one located in Canada. It markets teams and players, and regulates franchised team ownership. The NBA licenses rights for broadcasting and collects revenue from sponsorships with corporate partners. It also operates the WNBA, a women's professional basketball league; the NBA Development League for players who are preparing for the NBA; and NBA TV, a cable TV channel offering news, original programming, and live game broadcasts. The NBA was established as the Basketball Association of America in 1946.
The NBA is a professional basketball league and has been very popular in the United States since its creation. The sport is enjoyed by all races although most of the players are of African American race. During recent events, L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling was caught making racist remarks in an audio recording. He was frustrated that his girlfriend was hanging with other African Americans, even the great NBA legend Magic Johnson. He wanted her not to bring African Americans to his games and not to broadcast it on Instagram.
Basketball has had a large impact in the society. In the NBA, the teams bring out nationalism within their city. Various cities have a National basketball team representing them in the NBA. This in turn brings out a healthy competition that paves the way to socialization, support, and unity among individuals. NBA players can have a positive impact on individuals as well as an entire nation. ESPN deemed Jeremy Lin, an NBA player, to have the ability to expand basketball largely in China.
