What Influenced Barry Lopez?
Once a very intelligent man said “ Sometimes we need a story more than food to stay alive (clairemca wordpress).” Barry Lopez is a nature writer whose life experiences greatly influenced his writing. Three ways how Barry Lopez’s life experiences greatly influenced his writings were his mother life, his many travelling experiences, and his college education. One of the main life experiences that greatly influenced Barry Lopez’s life was his mother. Shortly after Barry Lopez was born in Port Chester, New York Barry’s family moved to Rural Southern California, the reason is unknown; this is where Barry Lopez’s family divorced. By time Barry Lopez graduated college at the University of Oregon. Barry had traveled to over 80 countries and almost every state in the United States except Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Alaska. This taught Barry Lopez many different human cultures, and some human civilization’s which then Barry wrote a book called Outside the Paris Review. Outside the Paris Review was a nonfiction book about the culture of Paris and the different people that lived there. Another reason why Barry Lopez’s traveling experience was greatly influenced his writings is Barry traveled over all North America exploring Cheyenne tipis, Mandan earth lodges, Inupiak igloos, Navajo hogans, and Sia pueblos. This greatly encouraged Barry to retell the Native American folktale Coyote Finishes His Work. Coyote Finishes His Work is a folktale about this Native American Coyote that thought he ruled the pack. There was this bigger coyote that showed the little coyote that if the little coyote was the head coyote the little coyote could move a mountain to the other side of the town well, the little coyote could not move the mountain and the little coyote disappeared. That is why Barry Lopez’s traveling experience greatly influenced his

Born in San Francisco, Jerry Garcia was the son of a registered nurse and an immigrant big bandleader. When Garcia's band broke up, he went into the bar business. It was right after the Depression. "It was a job he had to take to survive. Back then, you had to take any damn thing." Continuing the pattern of loss, Garcia drowned when Jerry was five. It is notable that he grew up with a single parent, an environment that characterizes many of today's children's formative experiences. When his father died, his decided to continue the bar business. As a result of this, what was left of the Garcia family moved around the San Francisco area quite frequently during the childrens' formative years. All the family members the children knew lived within a five-block radius. This enabled them to have an even bigger run of the city, as they would often ride the train around town to visit relatives.
"Everyone is influenced by their childhood. The things I write about and illustrate come from a vast range of inputs, from the earliest impressions of a little child, others from things I saw yesterday and still others from completely out of the blue, though no doubt they owe their arrival to some stimulus, albeit unconscious. I have a great love of wildlife, inherited from my parents, which show through in my subject matter, though always with a view to the humorous—not as a reflective device but as a reflection of my own fairly happy nature.
“The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.” (Chris McCandless) This was said by McCandless because he could not find happiness from his family so he went out to go find happiness. The book Into the Wild, by John Krakauer, was a book about a person named Chris McCandless, who could not find happiness from his family because they always provided him with all the materials he needed. This caused him to go out for an adventure or to the wild in Alaska. While on his journey, he had read books finding self- definition and so he used the authors from the book as literary heroes to get him past the journey. He was really inspired by the writers. With the inspiration he was set out to find happiness, and so he went into the wild. It is where he spent the rest of his days until he died because of poisoning. Many of his literary heroes inspired him to do what he did, but one stands out the most. Leo Tolstoy, who is considered to be one of the best novelists, Leo really inspired Chris because they had a life that they could relate. He also appreciated him because he had realistic views of the life. Chris McCandless needed inspiration for his adventure, so he looked up to the literary heroes as his guidance to the wild.
John Steinbeck was perhaps the best author of all time. He was the winner of a Nobel Prize, and among other accomplishments, Steinbeck published nineteen novels and made many movies during his lifetime. All of his experience and knowledge are shown through his novels. A reader can tell, just in reading a novel by Steinbeck, that he had been through a lot throughout his life. Also, Steinbeck worked very hard to accomplish everything that he did during his lifetime. Nothing came very easily to him, and he had to earn everything he owned. This helped him in his writing, because he was able to write about real people and real experiences. John Steinbeck got his inspiration from life experiences, people he knew, and places he had gone.
As every well-read person knows, the background in which you grow up plays a huge role in how you write and your opinions. Fuller grew up with a very strict education, learning multiple classic languages before she was eight years old. Fern grew up with writers all throughout her family and had a traditional education and saw first hand the iniquities of what hard-working had to contend with. Through close analysis of their work, a reader can quickly find the connections between their tone, style, content, and purpose and their history of their lives and their educational upbringing.

As one of America’s greatest writers, Ernest Hemmingway recounted his personal life experiences to create his novels. Hemmingway lead an interesting life, filled with romance, travel, and adventure. Hemmingway was also influenced by many of the people he met throughout his life, including women, authors, and news journalists.
...ings of the people he met along his way. While some of his works have been praised for their greatness and other discarded as junk, Steinbeck satisfied his need to write and in doing so shared some fantastic stories with the world.
Native American assigned identities and chosen identities varied significantly from each other. Native Americans saw themselves as very spiritual and moral beings, represented in their traditions and way of life. Analyzing Native American culture allows observers to identify the identity chosen by the Native Americans. Morality was, and likely still is, a primary component of Native American identity. In Coyote Finishes His Work, retold by Barry Lopez, the Nez Perce tell the story of both the beginning of the world, but also covers greed as being a tragic flaw; as Coyote, the main character, abuses his power for his own personal gain and is
As John Steinbeck experienced life in Ameria he recorded his observation, his enjoyment of life, and his belief in human goodness. Several of his works are now considered classics. His books differ in content and in form, “Of Mice and Men” is similar to a play and “The Sea of Cortez” is a scientific account. But Steinbeck wrote all of his books with a particular goal in mind. As he explained, “My whole work drive as been aimed at making people understand each other.”
Since the beginning of time, humans have always had some type of relationship with nature, whether it was negative or positive. Adam & Eve were exiled from paradise for eating from the forbidden tree. Neanderthals flourished living in caves while having constant interactions with nature. And now in this day in age the relationship continues. This ever-changing relationship between man and nature is the main focus of two writers, Wendell Berry and Terry Tempest Williams. Both writers have a similar voice and style in some aspects, yet differ in others.
Ernest Hemingway was not good at sports when he was younger, but he was good at making up stories. Making up stories led him to becoming a great writer. One of his short stories called “Indian Camp” was about a young boy named Nick Adams who went with his father and uncle George to the Indian Island to help out a pregnant woman who was Native American to give birth to her unborn child. In that story, the husband of the Native American woman ended up committing suicide and Nick realized that he can die at any moment. Another of one of his short stories called “The Doctor and the Doctor’s Wife” about a doctor who does not care for Indians and has a wife who does not communicate like they should, his wife is a christian scientist, which is unusual since they do not believe in doctors, and their son Nick who chooses his father over his mother.
