The Life of Barbara Millicent Roberts Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, a lady who was tired of watching her daughters play with just dolls all the time (Matthew 1). She wanted a toy that was fun, exciting, and inspiring; moreover, someone that they could change the outfits of and carry around. All this mom wanted was for her daughters to enjoy playing with a toy with all these features. Therefore, she created Barbie, which was released on March 9, 1959 at the New York Toy Fair (1). It was the first ever teenage toy fashion model, and she named the doll after her daughter Barbara. Thus, Barbara Millicent Roberts (Barbie) became an inspiration for many little girls in the world to have to play with. More importantly, she still continues to make little girls happy with all of the new features she has developed in these fifty years since her invention.

Having such a big icon bring this message across makes girls realise that if you set your mind to anything you can make it happen. Barbie has impacted us in several ways, some good and some not so good, but in the end having her around has helped little girls around the world. Many little girls don’t know what they would like to be when they grow older, but Barbie shows us in her different roles that you can achieve anything.
