Barack Obama Persuasive Speech

“We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.” Obama says. President Barack Obama delivered this speech February 24, 2009; he wanted to tell the Congress what needs to change in America. President Obama wants the economy in the future to be better, he wants America to be stronger than it was ever before. As he talks about the economy and what he wants for America, he uses appeal to logic, appeal to emotion and an urgent tone.
President Obama makes a logical argument in his speech to tell the congress what has happened in the past and what should happen in the future. In his speech he talks about how the economy did not fall into decline overnight. “...though all these challenges went

unsolved, we still managed to spend more money and pile up more debt...”, he talks about certain things that eat up our money, like how health care eats more of our savings each year. When Obama mentions health care, he wants the Congress to know that in “...last eight years, premiums have grown four times faster than wages.” as the wages increase “one million more Americans have lost their health insurance.”, he wants the health care to become better so Americans can afford it. Including, how our survival depends on finding new sources and to do that, we need the money to help us survive. How can we survive if we have no money to do these things. Obama also states that Americans buy houses they knew they could not afford from banks and lenders, who push away those bad loans. Obama tells the Congress that we need our future children to be successful, but we cannot if “We have one of the highest high school dropout rates of any industrialized nation.”, we should be able to provide the kids on what they need and help them stay in school. Obama wants the Congress to know that all these things that happen should change. That together we should help the economy and make a change for the United States. We should help Americans to stop spending so much money, to do that we have to do something about the economy to help those people who do not have a lot of money.
“It's the worry you wake up with and the source of sleepless nights.”Obama said. President Obama appeals to the emotions to show the Congress that Americans work day and night to make money, to support their families when needed. Obama talks about “the business you built your dreams upon that's now hanging by a thread…” that America is struggling and what you built is now falling apart because of the economy. He wants you to know “the college acceptance letter your child had to put back in the envelope.” is hard, especially for a parent to see their children not go to college because they cannot afford to pay. He knows that Americans are struggling and that the economy has to get better in the future. “Our children will compete for jobs in a global economy that too many of our schools do not prepare them for.”, the schools do not have the skills for the future children to be prepared in the real world. Obama wants to let the Congress know for those who cannot afford to pay for their children college, the “families who are struggling to pay tuition costs will receive a $2,500 tax credit for all four years of college.”, he wants this happen, so that we have successful children on our world. He wants the Congress to know that we should better prepare the future kids, they should be prepared for their jobs or careers once they get out of school. President Obama’s plan is that he wants the Congress to send him a recovery plan, so that we can start putting money in people’s pockets. Over time, “this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs.”
As Obama talks about what he wants for the future, he uses an urgent tone to tell the Congress that now is the time of change.

Obama talks about the future of the economy, “...time to take charge of our future is here.”, if we rise together as whole, we can better the economy. America should be able to know that together we can change the future. Obama tells the Congress, “Now is the time…” to tell the Congress and the rest of the important people to know that today is the day something will happen. When Obama said “Now is the time…”, this quote is similar to the Martin Luther King Jr. speech. What Obama wants is that he wants the Congress to know that we have to do something and if we do not, our economy may get worse. Just like when Martin Luther King Jr.wanted to have the rights for America and he wanted to change the world for the better. The President and Martin Luther King Jr. wanted change today, not tomorrow, not in five years, they wanted change now. America will not only help the economy, but will also try to build a new foundation for lasting prosperity. Today we will make history for the economy, but not just that but for America.
Overall, Obama wants to look forward in the future for the economy to become better. The President wants the Congress to have a recovery plan, so that we can work as a team to help the economy. He wants America to become better and stronger in the future and to have the economy become better. Obama wants the future children of America

to be the next generation of kids that will create new things in the world. We need the people to get back to work and to try to get out of this depth of a crisis because America are not quitters.
