Children beauty pageants have been going on for years and they can be very controversial. These horrible competitions are making kids lose confidence and can even result in kids losing their lives! For this reason Beauty pageants need to be banned for children under 16 years of age. ( Kaitou KID) took a pole about beauty pageants being banned and the results she got was impressive. 81% said YES and 19% said NO. That is a big difference. That is just one pole taken, their are many more people that don't care and could careless. Like I said in the previous sentence, some people don't care about beauty pageants. They don't care because of the way the girls are treated. The girls/boys are getting judged because of how they look and that is just …show more content…
As referred to in the last paragraph, it costed a 6 year old young girl her life.( her dad gave 5 reasons why child beauty pageants are bad to Good Morning America ) The two that stood out most to me was “ pageants sexulize young girls” and “ high heels are not made for small feet “. Pageants sexulize young girls in ways you cant imagine. The makeup, high heels, and padded bras are extremely too much for kids under 10 years of age to be wearing. High heels are not made for young girls to be wearing because once they wear them once they wont stop and then by the time they get older their feet will hurt if they wear any other shoes rather than high heels and could really damage the nerve cells in your feet as well as the risk of getting a tumor! The reason is because the heels have grown to their feet and they are so use to them.
Beauty pageants have been around for many years, more than I can count. They seem to dominate in our society today. Based on statistics, 5,000 beauty pageants are held every year and 250,000 are participating. (occupy.theory) 100,000 beauty pageants are held in the U.S. each year, about 72% hire pageant coaches. Unbelievable!! The statistics are expected to change for child beauty pageants in the next year. Since there is so much that we don't know about the statistics of pageants, We plan to gain as many results as we can so that we can let people know the true data of all child beauty pageants in the
Most young girls like to play dress up in they’re mother’s clothing and messily put on old makeup at least once when they are young. This is all in good nature for the child to express them self’s and have fun with it; after all they are just curious. But pageants are not harmless fun, they take innocent dressing up to a whole new level with fake hair, professional caked on makeup, fake eyelashes, spray tans, fake teeth, and tons of embellished outfits that are sometimes vary improper. With all of this the kids also have to learn routines and poses that are also sometime not appropriate for young girls. According to Wiehe, “to the child, a message is given that sexuality- expressed in clothing, makeup, and certain postures- is appropriate and even something to exploit.” (493) I’m sure not all young girls will come up with this message, but for some that have been doing pageants for years that might think that their only self worth is their body
At some point every single one of us was once an innocent child without a care in the world. The only thing that mattered was to make sure we had fun. There are many different things children do to have fun. Some children love to go outside and get dirty, others prefer to stay indoors and play pretend. Some girls love to play tea time or pretend to be princess. In some cases those pretend fantasies become true. Little girls get the chance to actually become a small little princess for a day. The only place that allows little girls to become a princess is at a child beauty pageant. Unfortunately throughout the years these pageants for little girls have been criticized and rejected by other people. There are many articles that discuss the reasons why child beauty pageants are rejected but there are also some that discuss the importance of them.
Over the past few years with the coming out of the new hit show ‘Toddlers in Tiaras,’ viewers have brought up a controversial question. Are beauty pageants exploitive? Or do they simply build confidence in young children? People have been debating about this topic for years and will continue on for years to come. Will the debate ever come to an end? Or will it result in the banning of beauty pageants all together? These and many other questions have been brought to the surface.
In the year of 1880 a spontaneous event took place which piqued the interest of young woman and girls in competing in a competition which was solely made up upon having good looks; this competition is called a beauty pageant. Approximately 700,000 pageants take place a year all over the world, but the first pageant ever originated in Delaware in the United States. Although pageants claim to be an event which promises to help bring world peace, they are actually a very costly event which showcases young children in inappropriate clothing, acting much older than their age. To add to all of the negativities, mothers of these pageant beauties are manipulatively living their childhood dreams through their own child. Because beauty pageants can be detrimental to a young child’s physical and emotional psyche, they should be banned for children under the age of 12.
Look at child beauty pageants. Notice that the girl’s childhood is filled with sparkly dresses and makeup. They are trying to grow up to fast and if they continue on this path they could turn out like a “special” celebrity. These kid’s faces have foundation, fake eyelashes with mascara, and bright lipstick. On top of that they are wearing clothes that aren’t appropriate for kids. If they continue to act the way they do now the next generation of girls to be total brats. Some psychology experts believe that these pageants are teaching children to act and dress about ten years above their age. Therefor child beauty pageants should be banned.
Young girls should not be exposed to beauty pageants. Beauty pageants became part of the American society in the 1920's. Child beauty pageants began in the 1960's. Child beauty pageants consist of modeling sportswear, evening attire, dance and talent. The children are judged based on individuality in looks, capability, poise, perfection and confidence. (“Kareen Nussbaum”) Putting your child in a situation as to being
Child beauty pageants were first introduced to people as a sort of entertainment for both the children and adults of the community. These were natural beauty pageants. Today, a beauty pageant is defined as a competition in which the participants, usually women, are judged on their attractiveness, with a prize, and often a title, awarded to the winner. How did a harmless hobby become so fierce? Because of glitz pageants, which stress only beauty, I believe that child beauty pageants should be banned.

Beauty pageants are linked with an immense variety of negative effects. These children are trying to be someone that they are not. The effects on these children can escalate quickly and affect them their entire life. When a parent first enters their child in a pageant, they do not think about the negative consequences they could have on their child. No parent wants to experience the tragedy that the Ramsey family did. Although some children do gain things from these pageants, the majority of them are harmed. The effects from these pageants range from eating disorders and body image problems to social and psychological problems. If there are not regulations put on these pageants in the near future, our young children are going suffer from growing up to fast. When will people learn that looks are not everything and we should let the kids be kids?
Child Beauty Pageants Win or Lose? Why not let the kids dress up and show out? Let the kids walk across the stage in front of the judge if they want to. Being in beauty pagents gives kids the opportunity to experience sportsmanship. It also gives them the chance to build their self confidence.
Child beauty pageants should not exist because it shows girls unrealistic beauty standards. By showing girls unrealistic beauty standards it shows them to not be themselves, the real person they were meant to be. Pageant participants often struggle with society's level of "perfection", dieting, eating disorders, and body image on through their adulthood. The society we live in today is absolutely horrible teaching young girls that they need to be perfect and as skinny as a twig to
" In the end, children’s beauty pageants are essentially harmful to both young girls safety and minds. It may not happen to some, but most of the young girls that compete in beauty pageants seem to have a bit of an attitude towards their parents and other people who will not cooperate with them.... ... middle of paper ... ...
These pageants may be considered child abuse. They have been believed to cause developmental problems and health disorders. Most importantly, the kids are being forced to grow up and lose part of their childhood. When these young girls are put in these pageants, they are being forced to grow up.
Children participating in pageants are too young to understand what is really happening. Girls should be required to be at least 16 years old to enter in beauty contests. Young girls who partake in beauty pageants develop serious emotional problems from doing so. Pageants over exaggerate the importance of outer beauty.
Pageants have a way of exploiting children by changing their looks and attitudes to make them more adult like and entertaining; dressing children in bikinis or provocative costumes just to be judged by how well they wear it and how pretty they are is demeaning and cruel. Children should not be taught that looks are everything and you get everything you want in life because when they're older it will be harder for them to accept reality. Imitating the fashion and looks of an adult is not how a child should grow up. A parent should want their child to grow up knowing that they are naturally beautiful and their personality and smarts can get them far in life rather than beauty beats brains, correct?
