Bambi by Hippo Campus is a song written to communicate themes of mental health and spatial awareness via its rhyme scheme and juxtaposition between the chorus and the entirety of the song. Unfolding with each revelation the author has about his being, the chorus mimics a stream of consciousness. This pattern of presenting ideas as they occur communicates entropy in the mind. While the music in the chorus is not faster than it is in the verses, the lyrics are written in a spiral. For Bambi, it is important that this chorus was written to sound disorganized. If not, the intense ideas presented to the listener in the lyrics would not stand out against the verses or the song in its entirety. Bambi’s ambiguous details, juxtaposing pictorial adjectives, introduce a serious topic about one’s mental health and its effects on loved ones in a way that the listener can understand. Serving as a reminder, the chorus becomes the only part of the song to mention feelings specifically outside of the author’s own. It incites that his friends are affected by his wallowing in self-pity, “[f]riends being put through this hell”(Bambi). These lyrics suggest the inward struggles the author feels and how severe they are to have an impact on other people in his life. Conversely, describing a life as “brash and unforgiving”(Bambi) is a significantly vague image, but it asks the listener to imagine their own worst experiences and apply them to the song.
