What is Google? Google is a website that has not only transformed the way we process endless information found on the internet, but it has also altered the way we think and talk about the internet. Google is a multinational company that specializes in public computing and internet search technology; it is utilized as a search engine to research documents, news, and using different applications. Since the startup of the company, Google has grown to be recognized by many companies seeking to get more involved with Google and how they intended to change the way people look up information on the Internet. However, what is the history behind this important corporation? When and how was it created?
Google began its production in March 1996 as a research project by the founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Both were in a Ph.D. program at Stanford University, working on the Stanford Digital Library Project. At the time, Page was attempting to come up with a topic for his thesis; he favored writing about the mathematical structure of the World Wide Web and how it could be understood through a graph. He presented the idea to his supervisor and received approval. Through his findings, Page was attempting to ascertain how to create a system that permitted people to find the right of information the simplest manner. Along with his partner, Sergey Brin, Page developed the PageRank algorithm, a system used to measure the importance of any given webpage; while popular sites rose to the top of their annotation list, less popular sites fell towards the bottom. What if someone told you the devices you were using everyday were rewiring your brain? Would you believe them? In the article Is Google Making Us Stupid? author Nicholas Carr brought up the topic of Google, and the internet, affecting the way we read and think. Carr opened up the article by relating his topic to a scene from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. The scene is one where a man is disconnecting a robot from its artificial “brain”. The robot says that he can feel his mind going. Carr then relates to the robot’s statement, saying that he can feel it, too. He states that the internet has been remapping his, and everyone 's, brain. Such a bold statement about something that almost everyone uses on a daily basis. For someone to state that
“ Persuasion is clearly a sort of demonstration, since we are most fully persuaded when we consider a thing to have been demonstrated” (Aristotle). In the essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid” Nicholas Carr presents a compelling argument in which he supports with Aristotle’s three styles for effective argumentation (logos, pathos, and ethos). Nicholas Carr appeals to the reader’s logic and reasoning, the reader’s emotion, and builds credibility within his essay. He exercises several effective writing strategies to strengthen his argument in the essay.

2009 was a negative period for the United States economy. A big recession hit the country, and the founders of Google were trying to make a plan in order to make to limit the damage caused by an economic decline. Brin and Page the two creators of the giant Google were shocked form the situation that was occurring. Their company was feeling the effect of the economic downturn. Google’s stock price dropped 51 percent. The two entrepreneurs were trying to figure out a way to keep the company from drowning. Google Inc. is a company that started in 2002 and has gradually grown to become an international technology company. Google’s business is mainly focused around vital areas, like advertising, search, operating systems and platforms, hardware products and enterprise. The company produces its revenue mainly by distributing online advertising. Google also produces revenue from Motorola through selling products. The company offers its services and products in over 100 languages and in over 50 regions, territories and countries.
Google continues to grow and innovate. Google focuses on the user and all else will follow. Since the beginning, they have focused on providing the best user experience possible, and take great care to ensure that they will ultimately serve their customers(Google.com n.d.). In relation to market development and product development the core values “Its best to do one thing really, really well (Google.com n.d.),” fits in with these strategies. “You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer (Google.com n.d.),” describes Goggle’s innovation to mobile platforms. “The need for information crosses all borders (Google.com n.d.).” Google company has grown and has offices in more then 60 countries, maintaining more then 180 internet domains, and serve more then half of their results to people outside of the United States, and this relates to concentrated growth strategy. “Great just isn’t good enough(Google.com n.d.).” Google continues to strive to reach for better ways of doing things, through innovation and integration, continue to improve things in unexpected ways (Google.com n.d.).
