As with many charitable initiatives, there has been backlash from the public and the government, with many finding baby hatches to be immoral. There are those who believe that baby hatches rob babies of their basic rights, a violation of Article 7 of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which requires for children to be registered, and to be cared for by their parents to their greatest ability. Others believe that baby hatches would promote a irresponsible parenting ethic, with those who might just simply want to get rid of a child may dump her child. They fear that people will find baby hatches to be an easy solution to children they are able to, but unwilling to raise. These arguments are quite farfetched and irrelevant. …show more content…
Parents who do not leave their unwanted children in baby hatches simply find other ways to get rid of them, and this usually involves the death of the child. If there is no child, what child rights are there to protect? Yes, a child should know his parents, but a child should also have the right to live, and to be brought up with his best interests in mind (which happens to be Article 2 of the CRC). Is raising a child without knowledge of his birth parents really that undesirable, when you compare it to the alternative - death? Onto the second argument on irresponsible and selfish people who are capable of, but unwilling to raise their own children: no one will willingly abandon their child in such a manner. As mentioned previously, Asians value family. While the mother’s family may disapprove of the child, the mother has spent nine months carrying the child. There is no way that she would not feel a slightest bit of affection for her child. No mother will willingly give up her child unless she is truly desperate. Thus, the slippery slope argument that claims baby hatches will promote child abandonment are quite frankly,
... to fairly enforce such a program. This objection was backed by multiple scenarios which demonstrated that most punishments are implausible. In response to this objection, I discussed Lafollette’s idea of removing children and putting them up for adoption. This plan involved orphanages or third party adoption indefinitely or until their biological parents became licensed. I also formulated an enforcement plan consisting of heavy fines and jail time for unauthorized children. Although this plan is harsh, it is fair and enforceable, thereby refuting the objection that there is no way to enforce parent certification. This paper discussed objections and responses to Lafollette’s argument which concluded in the reaffirmation that parent licensing is a possibility.
The adoption process can take more than one year and cost a family up to $18,000. Couples wait anxiously for the government’s approval, then the government assigns them a baby. Couples are given nothing more than a picture of the baby. They don’t have the child’s medical information, who the parents are, etc. Finally, three days after the arrival in Beijing, the couples get to meet their baby for the first time. Under Chairman Mao in the ‘50s and ‘60s, China’s population exploded. By 1980, Mao’s successors limited families to having only one child. Sometimes, families were allowed to have two. This was the largest human population control effort in human history. China’s population is coming under control, but there are consequences no one intended. Couples feel that they must have a boy because boys often carry on the family name, provide work and they stay with their parents at old age. Possibly, over 100,000 baby girls are abandoned every year. Many of them will end up in an orphanage. Today, 1in 4 children adopted overseas come from China. The babies adopted by Americans are only a fraction of the millions of girls believed to be missing from China’s population. While the number of girls are being giving away, the number of boys are becoming way out of proportion. Today, boys greatly out number girls and its only getting worse. This relates to cultural relativism,
Some parents in the world do not discipline their children and do not care what the children. All they care about are them selves. At that point the social workers take the child and put them in foster homes with complete and total strangers. Some companies just put kids with people who do not care about the children just what they get paid. They just let the children go off and do what they want and do not supervise the children’s activities. The social workers should do more thoroughly background checks. There should also be more supervision in foster homes instead of little supervision, and the workers should visit the home and the children more often than they actually do.
Many aspiring foster parent anticipated the increase in their expenses once they added a member in their family but one thing that surprised many is that there is a upfront cost that they will need to pay before they received their adoptee. “You may be shocked to learn that there are few costs to adopting a child. Or you may be surprised to discover that not every adoption costs thousands of dollars.” (financing). Theres is no recruitment agency that will cover that cost not even the government. And I think some people who planned to adopt and once they realized the cost that they need to pay first, they back out and the will keep the children in the foster care and that’s why we have a lot of kids there. The organization that I chose helps the potential foster parents to understand their options to how they can afford to
Many individuals are taking the process of process of parental licensing into their own hands, despite their contributions being made up in mind only, however, it is thought that counts. One respective person believes that a restriction on having children should begin at the earliest stage of one’s life: birth. As soon as a child is born, doctors should “go in and turn off their spickets” (McRedmond). In the later stages of life, this would prevent several cases of teen pregnancies, seeing as though it would be an impossibility for women to get pregnant. Then, when a women eventually becomes ready enough to think about having children, they should go through a testing process, perhaps similar to Sherman’s ideas of interviews, writing, and demonstrations of capability. If they pass, they “get their spickets turned
Single moms are the most affected and providing childcare on campus is very beneficial to them. More than 4 million women attend two-year public institutions or community colleges, and more than 1 million of them are mothers. Many student mothers struggle to stay enrolled all the way through graduation. Most of them are more likely to drop out of school, and the reason is because most often there is no affordable or available childcare and the students have limited financial resources. The average daycare center cost for an infant is higher than a year’s tuition and fees at a public college. It makes affordable on-campus child care a necessary provision for students. Childcare on campus helps to contribute to the learning
Everyone knows about foster care but do not realize the impact it has on humans ' lives. “More than 400,000 children are placed in foster care annually, with more than 200,000 moving in and out of foster homes in giving year” (Brozak, 1). Foster care changes and benefits people live, from the child to the parent. By foster care you save more lives than just the foster child. Although, foster parenting come with barrage of challenges. It provides many advantages for the people in need. Having foster children in your home is a blessing to the child, foster parents, and birth parents.
Australia should relax the regulation to stimulate the adoption because of the low adoption rate and the huge need of adoption from children. According to the latest figures of Australian adoption rate between 2012 to 2013 on our government website , all together there are only 339 adoptions including international adoption and Australian adoptions. You may have no concept about this figure; so let me tell you in another way to show you how horrible this number is. The adoption rate has declined dramatically 77% in last 25 years and the number intends to be lower. Compared with the national adoption, international adoption is even lower to only 38% . You may not be able to imagine that Australia the friendliest country in the world has unexpectedly the lowest adoption rate in the world. As a kind and warmhearted Australian in this great country, can y...
The term “anchor baby” refers to a child born to a noncitizen mother in a country which has birthright citizenship, especially when viewed as providing an advantage for family members seeking to secure citizenship or legal residency, as defined in the Race and Racism in the United States: An Encyclopedia of the American Mosaic. There have been many disputes on whether children of illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship at birth. Most immigrants come to the United States to have a better life for themselves and their families. By coming to America illegally, it causes society to suffer for their greediness. Recently, I thought children shouldn’t be penalized for their parent’s actions, but that’s not how i see the issue anymore. There is a great chance that anchor babies will destroy America’s future and ruin our economy.
The wrong motives for adopting a child sets up a person to be an unfit parent to adopt, but in
When a couple or individual decides to adopt a child, they know they are going to take on the responsibility of taking care of someone else’s child. Due to the biological parent(s) who can’t take care of that child anymore, because of either drug abuse, alcohol abuse, abuse to the child or if the parent(s) had died and there is no other care for the child. So that’s why this gives other couples who cannot have kids, the opportunity to promise themselves to be a great parent to a child in need. Though there are some bad things about adoption as well. Like adopting a child from another country of another race, because once that child is adopted into an American family, he or she will be cut off from their culture and never know about their history. Everyone should to know about their culture and history.
If you have ever considered adopting a newborn, or a child under the age of three, then you have undoubtedly recognized that the price affiliated with this type of adoption is outrageously expensive. Some adoptions costing in the upper $40,000 range. When there are so many children in foster care already, why are the costs of adoption so extreme? How is the adoption process broken down into these fees? What do adoptive candidates have to go through in order to adopt a baby? Is the foster care system failing the children it currently serves? Why are more birth mothers choosing the unsightly demise of abortion rather than adoption? Do these women who choose abortion know all their options when it comes to their unborn child? Is there enough
Is it fair to have to take a course and pass a test to become a parent?
Many people believe that the only way to get a pet is to “buy” one without considering adopting, which is why I believe people should consider looking up better options and become more knowledgeable. There are so many reasons why someone shouldn’t buy a pet from a breeder, and so many benefits from adopting a pet from your local shelter/animal rescue.
However, many people have exploited this option, leading to adoptive parents more often than not, giving their child away to complete strangers. The main reason that this system became so popular is because, “adoption is part of family law, which is left to the States to regulate, rather than the federal government” (Jordan). Since the states regulate it, there is little uniformity about how to enforce the law, and the punishment that should come with breaking it. While it is understandable why the government should not keep track of each and every 1.8 million reported adoptions per year, the issue of rehoming is out of control and needs more regulation (Jordan). This is just what many people in authority are doing all over the States.
