Stepping into a public library offers numerous books that have the power to cognitively transform any individual through education. In current times we have transformed our means of accessing information by having the ability to instantly find any information on the internet. However, are people interested in using this tool to educate themselves about current world problems? In our fast paced societies emphasizing economic success has made us forget the importance of the environment, the root of our existence. As of today, humans have deforested, polluted land, air and water, and caused global warming leading to the extinction of key species to the environment. Although environmental education is slowly spreading not many are aware of the terrible condition in which our environment is in. To handle the issue even a few authors such as Jared Diamond and Verlyn Klinkenborg made it their purpose to educate readers about environmental problems through brief articles. Before we can begin to brainstorm and interact differently with the environment to solve our problems, we must all be educated on the subject. The presentation of depressing facts regarding the undesirable present and future of society will create the awareness necessary for making changes to save our world. In “The Ends of the World as We Know Them,” Jared Diamond emphasizes the importance of sustainable human interaction with the environment for the survival of civilizations. The purpose of the article is to make the audience think about the potential future of their nation by analyzing environmental and social aspects. We cannot convince others into taking an initiative into sustaining the environment by simply telling them to do so. In order to persuade others into acting, they must know the facts and must develop fear about the future. Through a combination of fear and awareness, we can find the solution to slowly make Mother Nature heal its wounds.
