The movie Avatar showed great meaning. The movie sent a message about deforestation and protecting nature. Avatar contained a variety of science themes, such as carbon footprint, sustainability, and biodiversity. The movie was a great success, it was entertaining and educational at the same time. James Cameron did all his research and pulled together a great movie. The theme developed vs developing nations was depicted in the film Avatar. The main character in the movie named Jake was a ex marine, who lost his legs in battle/mission, and remained in a wheelchair. He was hired to replace his brother who was killed. Jake’s brother was one of the scientists who were studying on Pandora and the Na’vi people. Due to his brother’s death there was no one else compatible with his avatar. Therefore they hired Jake because they share the same genes. The first time Jake made a …show more content…
The sky people mostly went to Pandora for one main reason. That is to search for a rock/mineral that is worth a lot of money. Their only problem was the nature around the rock. Pandora was filled with strange animals that were 10 times our size and a group of looking aliens named the Na’vi, that are 6 to 7ft tall. The sky people didn't care about the nature or about creatures that lived there. All they cared about was getting the job done, getting paid, and making money. But luckily not all the sky people are mean and nasty. The scientists loved Pandora, they were fascinated by it. Day by day they would find something new about the planet. The scientists were trying to protect Pandora from the other sky people(army/military). The army were trying to destroy land that wasn't theirs. They wanted to destroy the beautiful nature that lies behind Pandora, just for a profit. They were willing to kill all those poor creatures, for a rock. They were willing to take everything away from these people just for
To conclude, there are clearly many ways in which the events of chapter 12 and the movie “Avatar” resemble each other. Not only are there numerous examples of similarities, but there are also numerous examples of differences as well. For instance, the whites tried to remove the Native Americans from their homelands, and the humans tried to remove the Na’vi from their homelands. Although, the whites succeeded, whereas the humans did not. In addition, many people died in both cases, however, in different ways.
Although it is assumed that most movies in social studies classes have no relevance to the content area, the movie “Avatar” is viewed in social studies and displays multiple examples of Imperialism, a content area of social studies. In Avatar, humans are colonizing a foreign planet named Pandora without any regard to the indigenous people, the Na’Vi with the sole intentions of obtaining unobtainium, a resource. This is just like how the British colonized foreign countries for their resources, such as Africa. The notion of colonizing other nations to require resources is a part of Imperialism and the movie portrayed it. Also, Colonel Miles Quaritch from Earth talked about how if the Na’Vi didn’t subdue to Earth or cooperate then war against them
The American science fiction film ‘Avatar’, directed by James Cameron is about Jake Sully, a paralysed former marine who becomes an avatar to take his place on a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There, he meets the Na’vi people and gets attached to living in harmony with nature, where he must save their land when being attacked by humans. The story line of Avatar follows closely with ‘The Hero’s Journey’ which focuses on how the main character is experiencing a change from his ordinary world, turning into an avatar to explore a new world. Primarily, Avatar captures a call to adventure to begin the hero’s journey. The film also explores a new approach with crossing the first threshold of the hero’s joinery which is conveyed through a range of cinematic techniques. Furthermore, Sully experiences a major ordeal followed by a reward shown in a variety of dramatic shots.

Avatar was directed by James Cameron, and was released on December 18th, 2009. In short, humans from Earth travel to a far-off planet, Pandora, specifically to mine a mineral called unobtainium, which is a superconductor. Given how humanity treat the Na’vi as a lesser
They might say that he wanted them to live their life to the fullest without knowing the perils ahead of them. They could argue that Odysseus does not disclose to them the full length of Circe’s prophecy because he wants the last few moments of their life to be joyful and carefree. Although this may be true, Odysseus shows just how misleading he can be time and time again. Just after being trapped on Polyphemus 's’ island, Odysseus finds himself with Aeolus, the Wind God. Aeolus kindly gives Odysseus a pouch of winds to help him and his crew to get home. Homer writes, “During the voyage, the suspicious and curious sailors open the bag (thinking it contains treasure), and the evil winds roar up into hurricanes to plague the luckless Odysseus again,” (Homer 10.1007-1008). When Homer writes, “suspicious and curious,” he is trying to convey that again Odysseus does not alert his fellow crewmates. Odysseus is vague and deceptive about what is in the sack, insinuating that there is hidden treasure that he doesn’t want to share. Furthermore, if Odysseus had warned his men and had been truthful, they would not have taken an extra three years just to get home. He also could have avoided losing numerous of his men to Circe, who turned them into pigs, and Scylla and Charybdis, who brought down the few men that were still living. His dishonesty makes him less of a hero and causes a great deal of harm
I have always admired Al Gore, and after watching this film, I am disappointed even more now, that he never became a president. He is indeed very smart and very talented person, who truly desires to change things not only in the United States but around the world. Especially, after watching his film about global warming, he made me feel like he does really care about the world and people. He said: “what we take for granted might not be here for our children,” to me, perhaps, this is the most moral idea that came across the entire film. Not only his words, but his actions prove his true diligence about our present and future, and also about future generations. He was able to deliver an important message to me, which ought to alert me and
Set on the planet Pandora, Avatar is a science-fiction story of a money-hungry corporation’s attempt to conquer and excavate the land of humanoids known as Na’Vi. Jake Sully is a paraplegic, who is sent to space to complete his deceased brother’s mission because they share the same genome, which is necessary to navigate the expensive avatar that had already been cloned. We learn that the avatar is basically a mind-transporter used to be a part of and learn about the Na’Vi community. During his first expedition in the land of the Na’Vi, Jake gets lost and encounters one of the main female members of the tribe who ends up taking him under her wing and teaches him the ways of a Omaticaya. From here, the movie continues to tell the story of Jake’s dilemma between the mission he started with his people and the allegiance he slowly pledged to the Omaticaya clan. After watching Avatar the day it came out in theaters, I easily decided that it was one of the most extraordinary movies I had ever seen. My opinion may seem invalid coming from an uncultured fourteen-year-old, but even after having recently re-watched the film, I feel this movie and its social commentary are remarkable. There were many aspects to this movie, some controversial, that made the movie exceptional: its new-aged cinematography, disputable portrayal of the indigenous peoples, oddly familiar plotline, and mostly its critique on colonization and civilization. After having watched Avatar for the sixth time, I have come to the conclusion that this film much more intricate than its critics and supporters acknowledge. There are multiple parallels between imperialism and...
Avatar the motion picture throws you into a rich world, with diverse characters who clash over cultural and socio-economic issues. At the heart of the story is a former Marine named Jake Sully, who falls in love while on an alien planet with a woman from a race of people called the Na’vi. The character whom he falls in love with is an alien for which he sacrifices his whole way of life to be with. By way of his experiences with the Na’vi, he begins to adopt a new worldview, which can only be described as Pantheism.
...ishing. While it makes clear that changes need to be made politically, this is a film meant to appeal to the environmentally concerned citizen. The film-like elements, while distracting to those watching the film with analytical intent, would most likely evade the average viewer. Such thematic elements help to increase viewer engagement, already lacking in environmental films, as becomes significantly easier to watch. Rupert Murray created a film not to be picked apart by critics, but to serve as conversational material between average citizens. He takes steps to ensure that viewers are given simple directives and memorable arguing points, such as repeating images of the MSC sustainable logo. While the statistics may have be victim to claims of arbitrariness, it is easy to visualize an individual at a party asking if others have heard that seafood will end in 2048.
In the film “Avatar” directed by James Cameron, wide shot, close up shots, gesture, lighting, sound, facial expression and dialogue are used to help the audience better understand the themes, good vs evil and respecting the environment which is expressed in the film.
...ollution are depressing. Wetlands appear to be protected in the United States, but are still being destroyed by over development and pollution. I was a little shocked to see the amount of water the private water companies have bought rights to world-wide. I was even more shocked to learn the amount of water rights the private water companies had here in the United States. Many areas in the United States has outsourced our water to private companies already. Privatization is not just a problem abroad, it is also happening here at home. I believe the film would be a great tool to change people’s attitudes in the more developed nations that take water for granted. The visuals of people all over the world fighting for their basic right to something so simple, yet so paramount to living, such as water should make anyone take a second and think about what they are doing.

Nature is Speaking with the voice of Julia Roberts is a powerful message to the public about conserving our resources and taking care of the environment. The main message tells us that humans will die, nature will stay. I believe the message of the video is very empowering and important. It is very important to let humans know that we have limited resources and need to conserve them to the best we can to bert-care for our beautiful planet. The video was effective to the public with the synced images of nature, eerie music, and a powerful voice of Julia
While watching the movie you feel for sad the Avatar people and anger towards the humans and corporations that are taking control, wanting to destroy the environment through mining to make money. It is a message of caution; look at how things could be in the 22nd century if we aren’t more careful with the resources the Earth provides now.
