The Chef of Kings, And The King of Chefs Auguste Escoffier was born in October 28, 1846 in France (Auguste Escoffier Biography). Escoffier began his career when he was the age of twelve working in his Uncle’s restaurant in Nice ( An Escoffier Biography). He apprenticed there until he was nineteen years old where he began a new apprentice in Paris ( An Escoffier Biography). After only a few months of being in Paris, Escoffier was drafted into the military and spent a total of seven years in service ( Auguste Escoffier). He was first stationed only a few miles away from the village where he was born in Villeneuve-Loubet ( Auguste Escoffier). Escoffier was stationed all over the place until finally becoming Chef de Cuisine for Marshal Mac-Mahon
George Ohr was a mysterious and odd man. He was born in Bolixi, Mississippi July 12, 1857. His origins are from German. Meaning his parents were German immigrants who came to the United States. George Ohr was interested in various many other trades before finally learning about ceramics. He then became interested. He was an educated clay maker learning in New Orleans from a man named Joseph Meyer (“Wikipedia Contributors, George E. Ohr”).
He completed his apprenticeship in a short three years, 1 year less than expected. This would be young Adolph’s first of many overachievements. After finishing his lessons, he worked at three other breweries in the area until 1868, when avoiding a military draft seemed necessary. He then left for the bright stars and stripes of America. Stowing away, he landed at Port Baltimore, Maryland. For the next 5 years, Adolph worked in several industries, ranging from gardening to his first love, brewing.
Aloysius “Louis” Baumann was a businessman who truly cared for the well being of his customers as well as his family. He was born on August 22nd, 1863 in Hirschau, Bavaria in southeast Germany. Louis accompanied his parents, Joseph and Anna, on the long journey to settle on a farm near the town of Branch in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Throughout the duration of his early years, Louis attended public school, dabbled in carpentry and assisted his family on the farm. In 1885 he moved to a farm north of Hewitt, Wisconsin. During the next four years, in May 1886, Louis married Anna Meidl, a girl born in Newmark, Bohemia, and had their first child, Theresa, in 1887. In 1889 Louis Baumann purchased a property on North Central Avenue in Marshfield, Wisconsin to build a saloon and hall. Sanger, or Singer, Hall became a community gathering place and was later renamed to Baumann’s Hall as the business prospered.

On August 27, 1906 in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, a guy with the name of Edward Theodore Gein was born. He was born to George Philip, an alcoholic and Augusta Gein, very religious woman. Ed also had an older brother named Henry Gein. Their father could never keep a job because of his addiction so the family moved away and went into living in isolation in Plainfield, Wisconsin. Augusta loved Gein a lot so she’d never let him socialize with anyone. She would punish him for making friends. He would go to school, come back and do the chores.
