August Alsina is a contemporary R&B singer. He was born on September 3rd, 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up, August and his siblings did not have the ideal upbringing. His parents were both addicted to cocaine and his biological father abruptly left the family when August was 14. Living in Downtown New Orleans, there was a lot of gun violence and drugs; consequently, August and his brother turned to the streets. The majority of August Alsina’s albums are directly related to his life. Throughout his songs, he explains how certain events have impacted him. Even though his story may seem cliché, there is more to him than just your average kid going through family struggles. For example, when he was 17 he dropped out of high school, therefore, he did not obtain a diploma or GED. He states that “my only option was to sell drugs in order to make a living” …show more content…
When he was creating this album, he stated, “I struggled. I struggled a lot with how much of myself do I give to the people. Because as artists, we put ourselves out there to be judged. People are so judgmental” (Drake). One of the songs named “Downtown” exemplifies the day of his brother’s passing. The lyrics “Already bad, it can only get worse Hand full of steel 'cause the shit still hurts cut so deep when they put him in the hearse Never saw 25, had to put him in the dirt” allows listeners to feel the agony that August felt during the day of his brother’s death (Downtown). August Alsina states “my brother always told me living in the hood you never live past 25” which in this case happened (Drake). His brother died right before his 25th birthday. By placing an exact age makes it even more powerful and places a new perspective on the song. Being so young when you die is not something that we expect. August is expressing that living in the streets is not where you want to end
...from the dullness of schoolwork to many possibilities. The next lines poke fun at the value of education and celebrate their street learning. ?Lurk late,? ?Strike straight,? ?Sing sin,? and ?Thin gin,? contradict any possibility for mental growth. Symbolism comes in the picture in the next line, ?We Jazz June,? which has many meanings. The word ?Jazz? signifies sexual intercourse. Then the word ?June? becomes a female. The tone of the poem dramatically changes when the reader learns the dropouts die soon. The group end in the last line, ?Die soon,? the final consequence of trying to be cool. Seemingly having fun in the beginning being cool, they are now completely powerless because they are dead. The poem really gives an obvious picture of what young African-American males are driven to do under the impression of trying to be cool. Since their minds are headed straight to corruption, they have no clue because they are having so much fun being cool. Leaving school, staying out late, singing sin, drinking alcohol, and having sex apparently are the only things that are important to them. With this mentality, more and more inner city males while continue hastening toward their death.

Drake was just a kid who didn't stop going after what he was after, says his mother in an interview with MTV. A family member of mine that I had asked about “what is it that you pay attention more in drake's music?” And her reply was “his lyrics on how he would treat a woman so she wouldn't be lonely or hurt by the things he does and just because you lost someone you loved doesn't mean to stop chasing your
On a lighter note, he explains his inspirations for his dream of making music in the song ‘Juicy.’ Biggie’s writing went in depth to show his audience where he came from and to also inspire other artists working their way up in the music industry. This album shows the dark side of Kendrick’s life, as well as his lighter moments of aspiration. Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
The impact that Gambino’s music has had on the world is globally and through the way, he relates to an individual’s personal issues and subjects. In addition, people relate to his music through his lyrics. He talks about re-life topics that anyone can relate to in his songs. The effect he had on music was vastly massive; he changed how people looked at his music or him personally. Nevertheless, even though Glover does try to connect to the world through his music sometimes he feels more alien that before “It seems like the more I try to connect with the world, I am feeling more alone than I ever have been
Songs are one way of expressing feelings and emotion, many artist do this constantly in their music. To some it is why they make music. There are endless signs and verses that hint at many things such as problems, politics, living in racist era’s also places. I chose to focus on one main rapper and his music only. I chose to examine, review, and study a few of his songs. Kid cudi grew up in cleveland, Ohio. His father passed away when he was a young age which affected the kid ever since. The credibility given to Eminem for “keeping it real” lies in the lyrical contents of interest. The extensive use of imagery, relatable events, and feelings of empathy fuels an understanding emitted from his depiction of societal issues that teenagers closely relate to, which gives him credit for “keeping it real.” The importance of reality-based lyrics lies in the audience’s reception and relatability of the content. As Lynette Holloway notes, Eminem’s lyrics focuses on life calamities that attract a massive audience. With existential topics that challenge societal norms, and even bring up self-reflective questions in Eminem’s lyrics, it is undoubtable why his songs are so popular. This teenage-determined interpretation of “keeping it real”
Throughout Drake’s musical career, the theme he raps about the most is the male/female relationship. As I referenced it before the relationship between men and women is one of the pillars of rap. His most commercially successful and loved songs are about the relationships he’s had with a woman. Instead of talking about selling drugs or violent lyrics, Drake raps about his love of women and the relationships he has with him. He talks about the mistakes he’s made in the relationship one song in particular “Sooner than Later” he talks about how he has this girl he loves but let’s her get away from him and doesn’t realize it until she’s gone when he raps, “I forgot to call on your birthday/ You swear you’re the last thing on my mind, yeah/ There
This paper analyzes Eminem’s, “When I’m Gone”, a song whose central theme is premised on the love for family and is evident on his conversation with his daughter, Hailie. I chose this song because of the interesting conversation that brings to the fore the deep emotional ties between the Eminem and Haile. Eminem’s passion for music seems to have taken precedence over the love for his family. Hailie endures so much heartache and misses her father every time he leaves home for a global fame and success through music. Eminem loves the daughter who he says he can give an arm for but can’t stop his music career because it is his passion and

Adolphe Appia was born in Geneva on the 1st of September, 1862; His father was one of the Red Cross co-founders, Louis Appia, not much is known of his mother. Adolph is best known for his many scenic designs for Wagner’s operas. Appia created a new perspective of scene design and stage lighting through painting three-dimensional "living" sets because he believed that shade was as necessary as light to form a connection between the actor and the setting of the performance in time and space. Through the use of control of light intensity, color and manipulation, Appia has formed a new trend that was gaining popularity.
