Her father was an English baker and her mother was a dutch baroness. Hepburn’s parent split up before World War 2 began.(Cox) Audrey spent most of her youth in a boarding school in England. Her mother arranged for Audrey to spend time in the English countryside and for her to begin ballet lessons. This is what showed Audrey how much she loved dancing and music. That love never left her. (“Audrey Hepburn.”)

(“Audrey Hepburn.”) The war ended in 1945, and Audrey's opportunity came knocking at her door. She moved from the Netherlands to London and continued to pursue her interest in dance.(“Audrey Hepburn.”) When Audrey moved, she got into acting so that her mother wouldn’t have to work degrading jobs in order to support them. She had trained in ballet since she was young, but her teachers told her that she was too tall, at 5’7, to become professional (”Audrey Hepburn Children’s fund-the real Audrey.”). She was upset but soon overcame it. Audrey’s stage debut began in London where she starred as a chorus girl in High Button Shoes, which was a musical.

It was “love at first sight” but after getting the wedding dress fit, she decided the marriage would not work (”Audrey Hepburn Children’s fund-the real Audrey.”). She worked on a new movie Ondine with her future husband, Mel Ferrer, as her co-star. She won a Tony Award for her performance in the movie. Her sons Luca and Sean created the Audrey Hepburn Memorial Fund at UNICEF to continue Hepburn’s humanitarian work and to inspire others to contribute.(“Audrey Hepburn.”) Audrey Hepburn is an American icon who left behind more than just a charity. She left behind a sense of elegance rather than sex appeal. She showed women that being smart and successful is attractive. She shows people to be compassionate instead of selfish. Audrey inspires people to be happy. One of her most famous quotes is, “I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is a new day and i believe in miracles.” She left behind her desire to make the world a better place. She had deep hope for the world and the people in it.

Lucille dyed her brown hair blond and moved to Hollywood, California, the place where dreams had come true for so many actors and actresses (Biography.com). Madonna helped classify a modern woman as an independent and sexual being. She fought to give women more choices and freedom and become more confident about themselves. Madonna made it possible for a woman to be in complete charge of her sexuality and womanhood. Today, a woman is not defined by her beauty but by her attitude and style.

Born Audrey Kathleen Ruston on May 4, 1929 to parents Joseph Hepburn-Ruston and Ella van Heemstra, Audrey lived with her two half-brothers, in Brussels, Belgium. She and her brothers lived a luscious life as young children, seeing that her mother was a Dutch Baroness who was descended from French and English kings and her father a well-known business man and banker. Audrey’s father later appended Hepburn to his surname, thus Audrey becoming Hepburn-Ruston (Biography of Audrey Hepburn.) In 1935 Joseph and Ella divorced, and Audrey recalled it to be one of the most traumatic events of her life. In the early years after the divorce, Audrey and her mother lived in England, but with the outbreak of World War II, her mother moved them to the Netherlands; this area was neutral and her mother’s home country. Much to her mother’s dismay, on May 10, 1940, Nazi Germans invaded the Netherlands and Audrey’s family, consisting of Audrey’s mother and her two half-brothers were forced to endure hardships of war (Audrey Hepburn 1929-1993.) Audrey suffered severely during the war, and became increasingly malnourished (Facts about Audrey Hepburn.)
A fiery Scots-Yankee known for her intelligence, humor and iron determination, Katharine Hepburn demonstrated remarkable staying power in a screen career that spanned more than six decades, winning three of her four Best Actress Oscars after the age of 60. Credit must go to her extraordinary parents, a noted urologist father, who at great professional risk brought the facts about venereal disease to a wider public, and his dedicated suffragette wife (an early champion of birth control), for providing an eccentric and genteel upbringing stressing Spartan physical discipline. Out of their Connecticut crucible emerged a strong-minded, outspoken, original who would become one of the nation's most admired and beloved actresses. Hepburn did it more on brains than beauty, though she was certainly not unattractive, and her strength of character, high moral fiber and regal poise were enduring qualities that continued to bring her choice parts as she aged.
