On September 29, 2015 our SLS class had the pleasure of inviting Attorney LaDray Gilbert to speak to us about the real world and how to get a job. The class met in the Perry Paige building in room 104 at 12:30 p.m. Attorney Gilbert came to speak to us about getting a job so that we can mentally and physically prepare us for the real world. He spoke to us using life experience and what he, as a business owner, would be looking for in an employer. To begin with the presentation, Attorney Gilbert introduced himself and his occupation. He gave us a little background of where he’s been and what he has done. He then moved into how to have a successful interview. It was general interview information, whether it be a job interview or an internship …show more content…
He gave amazing advice on what to wear for the interview. Advice such as men wear power colors like red and yellow. He also instructed that ladies wear their hair neat and not too distracting. Furthermore, Attorney Gilbert gave us knowledge about strengths and weaknesses. He told us that our strengths are good and that our weaknesses should be even better. Our weaknesses should be problems and provide a solution to that problem. When the interviewer asks “what are your weaknesses?” you give your weaknesses and add in however. Overall the presentation and the guest speaker were good. Although Attorney Gilbert came a little late, he had a complete presentation. The highlight of the presentation was when Attorney Gilbert had a mini mock interview with Domonique James, and asked her about her weaknesses. A strong point of the presentation was the lesson about dress code and doing research on the company beforehand. The presentation was good and I wouldn’t change anything about it. The information Attorney Gilbert shared was 100% useful. We will be needing the skills and advice he was instilling in
I believe that everyone has their own strength and weaknesses, but not everyone is able to figure out their strengths and weaknesses correctly. Knowing our own strengths and weaknesses is essential because it can help to achieve success in anything we choose to do. For me, my weakness is the time management, communication skills and weak in preparing effective Curriculum Vitae (CV) Below will be further explaining all my personal weaknesses and the ways to overcome it.
The weakness I portray are very difficult for me to think of. I know that I have quite a few but to change them is something that I have not full conquered yet. A weakness I know I have is sentence structure. I am not very good at putting sentences together and making them strong and well developed. Another weakness that is obvious is word choice. I don't always know the exact wording to use in different parts of a paper, this makes it hard to understand sometimes not very well written.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
However, I did notice that there were a few faults in the presentation, one being a fault that I personally consider may have negatively impacted our presentation. It seems to me that I was not able to deliver the presentation to the best of my ability as I had let my nerves get the best of me when talking to the staff. The reason for this was that I was not comfortable with taking on the speaking role that I was given and that there were last minute changes made to my slides right before presenting. Bruner, (1996) stated that the learning process for staff relies on the “meaningful dialogue” that is presented by the presenters. In this case, I think that my speech was not strong enough to grab the audience’s attention, thus not being able to portray my message about what an Ofsted inspection is and what the results from an Ofsted inspection mean. Nevertheless, although I was not able to present to the quality that I had wished, the feedback received was reassuring that I had not done terribly bad. I was able to see myself grow as a presenter as I noticed that my
For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I must use my strengths to my advantage, to be more effective academically and in the workplace, but I also need to identify and try to overcome my weaknesses, especially professionally.
During the presentation I learned a lot about table etiquette. Learning that more interviews are being conducted over dinner was surprising to me, as well as the way the spoon is supposed to be dipped in the soup. During the dinner we practiced proper etiquette of passing thing correctly and I practiced proper spoon, knife, and fork use. We used the European use of the knife and fork. We also were told by the waiter that the flowers were edible.
Weaknesses. This area focuses on identifying areas of improvement and creating ways to turn these weaknesses into strengths. This can range from New Belgium reviewing the competitors marketing strategies,
After I took the Richard Step Strengths Test, my top 5 strengths are curiosity, integrity, visionary, ambition and optimism. I agree with this result, because I feel myself are always enjoy meeting new things, and to know about it. I always make a plan and set a goal, also encourage myself to finish it in time. In addition, I like to listen a speech from video or somewhere and I would take a note when I hear something positive and helpful. The bottom 5 weakness I get self-motivation, leadership, resourcefulness, adaptability and teamwork. I agree that I am easily influenced by surrounding environment, and most of the time I am in a passive state. After reading the textbook, I found that the most possible reason of the bottom 5 weakness because
Persona: Brad is a 24 year old college graduate living in Chicago, IL and working two part-time jobs trying to make ends meet. He has been struggling to find full time work in a fierce job market due to a slow economy. The low hiring environment can be summarized in two ways:
I thought it was very well organized. Her example of the Thanksgiving meal was very helpful to realize how obesity can happen and how it is impacted by our pleasure center. Meg’s description on how these drugs are different than pervious anti-obesity meds was very helpful and encouraging because like she said they are always getting pulled off the shelf shortly after being marketed. Her writing of the drugs up on the top were helpful specifically for seeing how the drugs were spelt. Meg was very confident when giving her presentation.
To begin, I am going to write about my weaknesses and how they transitioned into strengths. First, I remember after each assignment in class was introduced I
The Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series is a series of interactive novel video games made by Capcom for Nintendo devices first released in 2001. It was based around the main playable defense attorney known by the players as Phoenix Wright. The games in this series are based on the Japanese law system, where infinite odds are stacked upon the defense. The series is an innovative and popular one, being among the stars of Capcom with the popular Street Fighter series as well as the (now deceased) Mega Man series. Capcom was very successful with this series and provided an equal balance in familiarity and new creative features with each new addition to the series… as well as some good humor. Ace Attorney does have a slightly interesting history and quite an odd future.
1. What Are Your Weaknesses? This is among the commonly asked questions of all time during a job interview. Handle it with care by limiting your weakness and give emphasis to your strengths when this
Being nervous was a weakness because I, as the skilled helper, felt that being nervous had led to me not giving enough eye contact. Due to the fact that I was nervous I would look at the client whilst they were talking but when it was my turn to speak I was looking away. Being nervous also had a negative effect on my confidence; I believe that the session would have been better if I was not nervous and my confidence was increased. It is important that the skilled helper is not nervous because if the skilled helper is nervous then the client may feel more worse than they already do and the session would not help the client as the skilled helper is not helping them as much as they
