The hardest part of life can be trying to survive or stay alive. The band U2 writes about surviving in their song, “Walk On.” U2’s music is a mix of Rock music, Alternative Rock, and Post-punk. Even though life can be hard, no matter who you are, you can overcome all obstacles that come your way. The band U2 and other artists in their genre have had a lot of creativity and free time to write and create their music we hear today.
Paul David Hewson, one of the members in the band U2 (known as Bono), was born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Bono was born on May 10, 1960 and is now 57 years old. He joined the band when he was still in high school in October of 1976 and he was made the lead member of the group. An interesting fact about Bono is that he has been married since 1982, and he has four children: 2 daughters and 2 sons.
No matter what you’re going through and the obstacles that come your way, you can overcome and defeat them. In their song “Walk On” they say, “[...] be strong, walk on” (Walk On). The lyrics tell the listener to be strong through the obstacles that come your way. They also tell them to keep surviving and keep going through life as best as you can.

In the song it says, “I’m a survivor” and “I will survive” (Survivor). Those lyrics tell you that they are survivors and that they will keep surviving throughout their life. In the song “I will Survive” by Diana Ross, the lyrics say “[...] I know I’ll stay alive.” and “I’ll survive, I will survive” (I Will Survive). The lyrics say that the singer, Diana Ross, will survive as long as she knows how to love and take care of herself. The song “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor has the lyrics, “Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet.” and “Just a man and his will to survive” (Eye of the Tiger). The lyrics talk about getting low but then picking yourself back up from the effect of the obstacles that come your
“Hurt” a song originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails which portrays self-harm and heroin addiction has been covered by many great artists including Johnny cash. When Johnny cash covered this song I got a deferent message from the lyrics while he sings it, maybe it is because of his voice or how he lived his life, but when he is singing this song I get a sense that he is singing about a loved one that has passed on, growing older, and his legacy.
The song “Hurt” written by Trent Reznor and originally performed by his band Nine Inch Nails is a melancholy, haunting song. Nine Inch Nails’ version was recorded in 1994 and rerecorded and released by Johnny Cash in 2002. Each of the performers has a style, which some people would argue is at opposite ends of the spectrum of popular music; one is what is referred to as “Industrial Rock”, the other is country. Indeed, the musical genres are diverse; however, the song “Hurt” transcends the boundaries between old and new, hard and soft, and especially the differences and similarities between these men.
“They say God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.” This, lyrics from the Intro of her album, justifies how Kehlani, an artist from Oakland, the third largest city in the Bay Area, have put in so much effort and hard work to be able to set herself apart and stand out from all the other aspiring singers.
Phish has inherited the legacy of the Grateful Dead. A responsibility that includes: playing a different set every night, constant jamming and experimenting. Phish is trailed across the country by adoring fans that think their heroes can do no wrong. What makes them so special is that their music winds together. It is full of freedom and happiness. Their lyrics are totally original; they have this weird way of looking at the world and when they express this in their songs it takes you to a whole different level of thinking.
Ethos: The credibility of Anti-Flag, as of right now, is growing enormously. All the other punk bands look to these guys and marvel at how much they are defending their beliefs. For example, a person is watching his or her favorite band play and he or she begins to talk of how great Anti-Flag is. Immediately one could pick up on that and want to get to know more about Anti-Flag. It is a chain reaction of learning about other bands through bands that he or she already knows. If Anti-Flag are respected by bands that were the original punk-rockers such as Bad Religion, NOFX, and The Clash, then they will be admitted into the fan base of such bands. As long as a band can get a well known band to show favor, the band will be more accepted by the fan-base community. This is ironic because the band does not have to make good music as long as a respected band likes them.
There is perhaps a no more plangent or evocative melody played from the brass bugle than that of “Taps”. The sounding of the song arouses in the listener a sense of melancholy, solemnity, remembrance, and loss; a stirring of the soul to recall the essence of a life lost in military service. Often accompanied by a 21-gun salute, “Taps” as a burial ceremony has been employed since July of 1862, where the notes were first scrawled on the back of an envelope by a Union general in the aftermath of the Seven Day Battle in order to memorialize the loss of his soldiers. The notes have a scourging effect on the listener, leaving one cornered to countenance the forbidding realities of death and sacrifice. Indeed, “Taps”, calls out
After seven hundred years of British rule, and many uprisings that ended in failure, Ireland had reached a breakthrough. This breakthrough had an affect on many different people, especially Irish musicians. The series of uprisings and wars that led to the freedom of most of Ireland developed a new form of Irish music; the rebel songs.
John Winston Lennon was born October 9, 1940, in Liverpool England. In the mid 1950’s he formed his first band, The Quarrymen, while still in high school. He met Paul McCartney in 1957 and invited him to join the group. Eventually, the two formed the most successful songwriting team in history and the most influential band in modern pop music…. The Beatles! (1)
I believe that the history of rock and roll demonstrates a link between culture and social class race, and age; by the way a genre brings all the people in these different categories into one big group. When rock and roll began to emerge people from different cultures and social classes started to come together as a group by the way they dressed. It was not only the music but also the fashion it brought along with it. People from this era changed the way they dressed, styled their hair and their means of transportation. This brought together people from different cultures and social class, race and age all together.
Most things have their beginnings in something small: a word, a breath, or idea; but not music. Music begins with a single vibration. It explodes and carries on, morphing worlds of unrelated personas. It lives rampantly in the mouths of millions of unruly and free-spirited teenagers, like a fever. The rock 'n roll trend that defiantly rose against the conformist ideology of the mid-twentieth century left remnants that commenced the start of a progressing society: a culture that redefined the rules of society and pushed social and moral limits while addressing social concerns.
The lyrics from the song, “Carry On” By Fun, can be used to help Evan, from the non-fiction novel, who will tell my brother? by Marlene Carvell deal with the pain in his life. The song lyrics would have helped Evan along his journey of trying to change the mascot and during the saddest parts of his life if Evan had listened to the song.
...things do not change. The last part of that lyric is pretty sad. Sounds like his friends were constantly dying due to the violence in his neighborhood.
“On and On” is by Erykah Badu. In this song Badu expresses that life will continue regardless the circumstances. Her use of supreme mathematics, references to God, and hidden message work together to tell the reader that life does not stop for anybody.
Survival is indeed a word that can change a human’s perspective on what they need to do to remain alive. In order to survive, people have been known to go to great lengths and to do things they would not ordinarily do. I have noticed this throughout my life by watching movies, and reading books. Most of the time, it is the main character who comes face to face with death, and does anything to keep themselves alive. I have set up a few great examples that show’s people in their survival situations, and what they will do to get out alive.
about their lives while for others, it’s difficult to make it through the day. My hope is that
