Atomic bombing Justification: What led the U.S. to use their atomic bombs? What led to the atomic bomb being deployed was the fact that War World 2 was not going to end and the continuous loss of life. It was a complex decision, which was influenced by various factors. Factors include, the civilians of Japan were already dying to firebombings without any backlash from the U.S. and the desire to end the war quickly. Despite the difficulty of the decision, the United States' attack was deemed justified. Why was the Atomic bombing rationalized? The decision to drop the atomic bomb was considered justifiable due to the significant loss of life among the Japanese population prior to its deployment. Another reason is that death is an inevitable aspect of war. In “Secretary of War”, Harry Stimson said, “The face of war is the face of death; death is an inevitable part of every order that a wartime leader gives. ” (Doc 3). What this shows is that deaths are bound to happen throughout wartime. Furthermore, the reason for the U.S. to use atomic bombs is that they were desperate to end the war. In “Secretary of War” Harry Stimson said, “The decision to use the atomic bomb was a decision that brought death to over a hundred thousand Japanese. No explanation can change that fact, and I do not wish to gloss it over. but this deliberate, premeditated destruction was our least abhorrent choice. The destruction of Hisoshima and Nagasaki put an end to the Japanese war” (Doc 3). What this means is this was the least horrid choice and that this option put an end to the Japanese War which is why the use of atomic weapons is acceptable.
