Athletic Trainer
An athletic trainer seeking employment in today's job market is likely to encounter many problems and obstacles along the way. The need for higher education greatly affects the prospect for the athletic trainer with only the baccaulereate degree. Those with this degree are better suited to seek employment in the rehabilitative therapy clinic setting. Many of these clinics have contracts with the local high schools or university thus allowing for more employees and allowing these entry level positions. Clinics also tebd to employ the student trainers who also have a tendency to move on after their education.
With third party payees coming more into this field there should be an increase in the job availability for the athletic trainer in the clinical setting. There are also many openings for trainers in the high school level. The down side to this area of work is that this position is not generally based on the care and concern for the health and well being of the student athlete but is contingent on the budget aspect. The most dismal field for an athletic trainer seeking employment is in the college level. Athletic trainers most certainly need advanced degrees as well as certification of the National Athletic Trainers
Association. Most Athletic trainers in this level have accepted employment while in college or attending that particular university. The college level for the athletic trainer position has not increased over the past few years- due impart to the hiring of the student trainers leaving no openings for the athletic trainer who is seeking full time employment. Obviously there is a definite need for advanced degrees in todays society, if one is seeking employment as an athletic trainer due to the fact that there is a very limited job field and openings are few and far between. In order to be fully prepared for the position of athletic trainer in todays sports related society, the potential trainer needs to obtain the minimum of a baccalaureate degree with a designated course of study. They need to have studied thoroughly anatomy and physiology, physiology of exercise, rehabilitation, kineseiology, psychology, injury evaluation and also emergency care procedures and techniques. Before meeting the requirements to become eligible to test for the National Athletic Trainers
Association (NATA) a potential trainer needs a minumum of 800 clinical hours of experience or 1500 hours if not enrolled in an accredited athletic training education program. The NATA also requires continuing education units for a certified trainer to remain certified through them. The steps to obtaining a career in the field of athletic training are fairly simple.
A few negatives to becoming an Athletic Trainer are dealing with a lot of injuries, working a lot of long hours, parents and coaches disagreeing with the trainer’s diagnosis and recommendations, and working within small
To become a Health Certified Health specialist it takes an individual who is passionate about giving back to their community and making it a healthier and safer environment; it requires a competent individual that is academically trained to assess and determine what is the best for the environment and for the public. According to the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (n.d.) under the CHES exam eligibility section, it states, in order to become a Certified Health Education Specialist an individual must hold a “bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher education”(para. 2). In addition, one must provide an official transcript that ensures the individual has completed a major in health education or “25 semester hours or 37 quarter

Define Nursing Nursing is a knowledge-based profession within the health care sector that focuses on the overall care of individuals. According to The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), “defines nurse practitioners as registered nurses who have received graduate-level nursing education and clinical training, which enables them to provide a wide range of preventative and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialists when necessary. Some nurse practitioners work under the supervision of a physician while others run their own practices.
“I felt his hands start to move down towards my shorts as if he was trying to unbutton them or pull them off. I was still crying at this point and felt so scared that I couldn’t move” (Henneberger, 2012). These are words written by a college freshman after she had been raped, but they are true for many others as well. According to the Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties, “every two minutes someone in the US is sexually assaulted” (Get the Facts). “Girls ages 16-19 are four times more likely than the than the general population to be victims of sexual assault” (Get the Facts). These women may be described as slut, cheap, or ready for action, rather than victim, sufferer, or survivor. Rape myths encourage these demeaning terms for women and conceal the reality of rape culture. I will describe the pervasiveness of sexual assault on college campuses as well as the systems and procedures in place to address it. Power plays a role in this issue, including the powerful men on campus such as athletes and fraternity members as well as the administrators in power who regulate the punishments and actions that are taken against the perpetrators. The influence of those in power often goes overlooked in our society because it has become so intertwined with our culture.
A. Background Information: The next four years of the students’ lives after high school mark the moment they become independent. Because of the freedom, college students are more susceptible to careless actions like drinking, doing drugs, and even committing sexualt assualt. Sexual assault has been around for years and the actions to prevent this heinous crime has been minimal, especially in colleges and universities. In 2015, Brock Turner, a student from Stanford, sexually assaulted a young woman on campus. Turner claimed that because he was drinking, was with friends, and saw a “promiscuous” female student, that pressured him into committing such a heinous crime. This was because Stanford University didn’t teach its students sexual assault prevention which caused the victim to be harm and violated. By teaching college students about sexual assault prevention, it decreases the number of sexual assault cases on campus, prevents psychological damage to the victim’s mental state, and educates other students to know the signs
Have you ever been encountered in a circumstance of being raped or knew an individual that was a victim of rape? Every one-hundred and seven seconds an American is sexually assaulted (RAINN). Rape has become a continuous problem causing controversy due to the way colleges cover up or simply hide incidents of rape throughout campus. More college students are also being raped by their own acquaintances rather than random strangers. Students, parents, and politicians question the way schools protect students and how their campuses can become more effective and efficient in preventing further occurrences of rape. Over the past years there has been a series of incidents where rape has been an extreme problem on college campuses in America that have been kept quiet until something traumatic happens. The prevalence of rapes on college campuses is continuing to rise due to lack of security, surveillance and awareness.
Yoffe's article discusses The Unfortunate Truth About College Campuses Rape Policies. Yoffe's article presents detailed information of how many campuses have rules that are intended to protect victims from sexual assault, meaning that students are losing their right to due process as well as an accusation of wrongdoing that can derail a person's entire college experience and education. Yoffe's article then provides brief background stories of several people encountering sexually assaulted cases on college campuses.
Most schools report that they have implemented programs and are actively participating in anti-rape activities around campus but are only doing so to meet the standards and make the school seem safer and more actively against the crime. In a study published in the National Institute of Justice it is reported that “anonymous reporting, which encourages victims to come forward, is an option at only half of the nation's school…and fewer than half the schools inform students on how to file criminal charges.” Schools advertise that they are educating their students about how to report the crimes and the importance of being aware of the dangers of rape but only meet the bare minimum with online programs that students can simply click through to pass. Schools are not effectively communicating that students really need to take these programs seriously and are instead allowing them to have negative attitudes towards the minimal education programs that they have set
The University of Charleston’s LLO’s and Mission Statement can fully be applied to my future career and my service learning project. The future profession I would like to pursue at the University of Charleston is Athletic Training. Within this field I am given many opportunities to apply these LLO’s. In reporting national issues, objectivity should be priority number one for the media. Instead, the stories ...
A report commissioned by the united States Department of Justice through the National College Women Sexual Victimization study and based on 4,446 women who were attending a two to four year institution during the Fall of 1996 discovered that three percent of college women find themselves victims of sexual assault in any of their academic years. More recent studies sponsored by the National Institute of Justice and based on a sample of 5,446 undergraduate females found that nineteen percent of college undergraduate students have experienced attempted or completed sexual assault. In the Campus Sexual Assault Study, 52.7% of victims had completed less than two years of college when assaulted. Even more surprising than these numbers is the fact that the statistics are in actuality low because victims often times do not come forward for fear of the judgment they are going to face by their
Everyone has dreams and goals, some people may or may not stick with them and some may not. But I'm going to stick to mine and my dream is to be a physical sports trainer. Everyone may have downfall but i won't I'm going to stick to my dream goal. The reason the I want to be a sports trainer because I got hurt during a football and tore my ACL and the sports trainers were by my side through all the hard time. I thought I wasn't going to play football but the trainers helped me a lot so I could get back before the season starts. Another reason is because people don't realized how much the trainers do for us. They go out there way just make sure everything is okay for us athletes. They are here at school early mornings and the last ones to leave
According to the US Justice Department, sexual assault is any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient and includes sexual activities such as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation, incest, fondling, and attempted rape. Sexual assault has always been an unacknowledged problem within society, especially on college campuses, with many people either being reluctant to speak out, believing it to be a sort of “myth” or call for attention, or just not knowing how to deal with it. For example, more than one-third of victims don’t report attacks because they didn’t realize a crime was committed. Sexual assault is a serious problem that must not be suppressed by individuals
In conclusion if people showed empathy towards others, then the world would be a better place in which to live. Showing empathy towards others may not seem like something much, but it makes a big difference to get along better with others, prevent misunderstandings which can lead to fighting, and learn from other people’s
