We Shouldn’t Accept Performance-Enhancing Drugs In Competitive Sports One of the controversial issues facing athletes is whether society should accept for athletes to take performance-enhancing drugs in competitive sports. Performance-enhancing drugs are substances used by athletes to improve their performance in the sports in which they engage. The most common substances that athlete’s use is, human growth hormone (HGH) and anabolic steroids, to stimulate growth and recover faster from injuries. Performance-Enhancing drugs are commonly referred to by the term doping. One argument against allowing performance-enhancing drugs in competitive sports is that it is morally wrong to allow athletes to use steroids because of integrity and health issues. Even though many can say it is really bad for people to take steroids, it is not as bad as people make it seem. I agree with the opponents that there has been no evidence of steroids leading to death. However, a professional wrestler Chris Benoit murdered his wife and son, and then he hanged himself. Many believe that it was the steroid abuse that caused Benoit’s actions to take place. Even though opponents agreed that steroids causes steroid rages because of high levels of testosterone and that could cause violent actions in those taking it. There is no substantial evidence that steroids triggered Benoit’s incident. According to the opponents, steroids have not caused any deaths. In fact, steroids do cause side effects such as acne depletes sperm production, shrinking of the testicles and enlargement of the breasts. Still athletes are willing to take those chances to obtain their dream. It is unfair for athletes who try to pursue their goal of becoming a professional athlete by not taking shortcuts.
