For Greeks stars, planets, the Sun and Earth was very important. We can prove it by reading their scientific works and books. Astronomy was also connected with religion, myths and legends.
In Homer's works "Iliad" and "Odyssey" he mentioned constellations Boötes, Orion and Ursa Major; star clusters Hyades and Pleiades; star Sirius. There was also written several astronomical phenomena like solar eclipse.
One of the ancient Greek myths was that the Earth was flat and was created by the goddess Gaia. They also believed in geocentric Earth model- that Earth was at the center of the universe and the Sun, Moon, planets and stars orbited around. Though not everyone accepted the geocentric model. Aristarchus of Samos was an ancient Greek astronomer

He was the son of Danae and Zeus. They were locked and thrown away to the sea by his grandfather Acrisius. The box didn't sink and floated to the shore of an island. When the box was opened Zeus, Danae and Perseus stepped out to the country that was ruled by Polydectes. The king felt in love with Danae, but she couldn't marry him because she had to take care of Perseus. When Perseus grew up Polydectes sent him to a very dangerous mission- he had to go to the cave of gorgons and cut Mesusa's head and bring back to the king. Polydectes was sure that Perseus would be killed and then Danae would be forced to marry him. In the morning Perseus sang songs to salute the rising sun. The gods were very appreciated and some of them gave him gifts: Athena gave him a shield of polished gold, Hermes gave him a pair of winged sandals and a new-moon sword, hades gave him a helmet. When Perseus entered the cave, he put his helmet that made him invisible, he examined every gorgon with his shield and carefully came to Medusa. He used his moon sword to cut the head of the monster. On his way home, he rescued Andromeda from a sea monster Cetus. Andromeda became his wife and they returned home and stopped the forced marriage of his mother. Polydectes and his wedding guests all turned into stone when they saw Medusa's head. Perseus gave the head to Athena. Perseus became the king of Mycenae. After his death, Perseus got a place among all the constellations
The settings are the Grey Sisters Place, some place with Athena, island of the Gorgons, Into the air, and Atlas’s island. The settings are different because it has more than Perseus. The events are that Perseus was sent off the quest, He then gets a lot of gifts after that he goes to see the Grey sisters and steals their eye then goes to see Atlas she gives him the hat of darkness. After that goes to Medusa’s cave and he cuts off Medusa’s head, he escapes Medusa's sisters. The event is different because he has a lot of things to do before going and killing medusa and in the poem Perseus he just got a shield and cut her head.
The Task, In Perseus the main task that happens is when Perseus a demigod, son of Zeus goes out to capture something special. Perseus sets out on an adventure to kill Medusa and capture her head to bring back as a gift. The hard part is that in one glance eye to eye at Medusa you will automatically turn into stone. Therefore, this was a hard feat to accomplish and it was one that he wanted to fulfill after he told they guy who was going to marry his mom he would bring them Medusa’s head. He laughed at him and that was a sign of determination for Perseus to accomplish his goal
Perseus as well as saving his mother, married Andromeda and sailed off with her after saving her
First, he is called to an adventure in which he is assigned to complete an impossible task. Then he is mentored by Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and assisted by the magical gifts given by the nymphs to overcome a monster. Using the advice and tools he has received on his journey, Perseus kills the monster with his wits by using the reflection of his shield instead of relying on brute force. On his road back home, Perseus commits a good deed by saving a damsel in distress by slaying another monster. Finally, Perseus arrives home and is arguably the only Greek hero with a happy ending.

Perseus was born to Danae and the Greek god Zeus. Acrisius, the father of Danae, was told by the oracle of Apollo that Danae’s son would kill him. After finding out that Danae had her son, Perseus, Acrisius shut Perseus and Dane up in a large chest cast the chest out to sea. After a while out in the sea, they landed on the island of Seriphos, where they were saved by the king Polydectes’s brother, Dictys. Polydectes, after hearing about Danae, wanted her to marry him. In order to get rid of Perseus, so that no one would be able to stop him from marrying Danae, Polydectes came up with a plan. He pretended to be marrying the daughter of one of his friends and required everyone to bring him a wedding gift. Polydectes knew that Perseus, being very poor, would arrive empty-handed. Perseus vowed that he could bring Polydectes anything that he wanted and so Polydectes demanded Perseus to bring him the head of the gorgon Medusa, hoping that he would be killed. Perseus set off on his adventure to kill Medusa and while stopping to rest one night in an unknown land, Perseus realized how hopeless the adventure seemed to be. “Gorgons were horrible, instead of hair they had black serpents that writhed on their head, they had brazen hands that could...
Perseus demonstrates courage, motivation by love, and physical strength in his adventure of killing medusa and the great snake. In his first story of killing Medusa, Perseus reveals his courage and physical strength. Perseus takes one swing with his sword and smoothly cuts through Medusa's neck while keeping his eyes on his shield. "With a single sweep of his sword he cut through her neck and, his eyes still fixed on the shield with never a glance at her, he swooped low enough to seize the head"(204). Perseus' action of cutting off Medusa's head with one swing highlights how physically strong he is. Perseus showed much courage by cutting off the head of one of the most feared creatures in mythology. After killing Medusa, Perseus shows his motivation,
After returning from killing Medusa, he killed King Polydectes by turning him to stone with Medusa’s head. According to http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/perseus/p/Perseus.htm though, he was just defending his mom when he did this. In relationship to saving her, he married Andromeda and they were happy together. He never cheated or killed her. Unlike Hercules. As a hero, Perseus was celebrated in many places, from Argos to Mycenae. He had an altar in Athens and a temple and statue in Egypt. Where it was considered a blessing when he visited them there as http://www.theoi.com/Heros/Perseus.html states. In the end, it is really just a life for a
Perseus grew up to be a strong fearless lad. One day he claimed to King Polydectes, “Oh, Host and Benefactor, I owe you too much gratitude to repay you with the common gift of a horse. I shall bring you the head of Medusa!”(Evslin.110) Perseus set off for his mission, he encountered the gray sisters and the apple nymphs forcing them to give him information about Medusa’s location. Then he went to Medusa with three gifts from the apple nymphs: a sword, a shield, and the Cap of Darkness. Successfully Perseus killed Medusa and while bringing Medusa’s head towards the island of Sephiros. He encountered a sea serpent who was creating trouble by the nearby town of Cepheus. Perseus drew out Medusa’s head and turned the sea serpent into stone. Throughout Perseus’s mission he encountered many obstacles and he handled each challenge in a smart and clever way, unlike King
Hipparchus is thought to be the greatest astronomer of ancient times, but he rejected the heliocentric system of Aristarchus, he did not reject it on a religious opinion, but on a scientific one.
Perseus, in the original Greek myth, was the son of Danae and the powerful Greek god Zeus. Danae was
Introduction Perseus, son of Zeus, was one of the many demigod heroes of Greek mythology. While best known for slaying Medusa and using her head to turn his enemies to stone, he also married Andromeda, saved his mother Danaë, and ruled over Argos, one of the city-states of Ancient Greece. Because of all the great things he accomplished, Zeus placed Perseus and his wife Andromeda up in the sky as constellations (1). The reason why I picked the constellation Perseus is a bit less highbrow, however.
Astronomy is a very important field in science. Ancient Greece, China, and India all contributed to our everyday ideas and uses of astronomy. Ancient Greece was the most influential because the Indian’s based most of their astronomy off of Greece. The Greeks created calendars that were based off of the eclipse cycle, which they called by two different names, Hellenic Calendars and Lunisolar Calendars. Because of Ancient Greece, we now have calendars to keep us on track every day. The Greeks observed a celestial object passing through the eastern and western morning sky. After a long time of observations, they came to a realization that it was a planet and now that is the planet is well known as Venus. (Sarton, 75) Plato and Aristotle’s theories were incredible contributions on us today. Both of their theories were all about the behavior and life of the planets, such as their theory that the earth is spherical. (Sarton, 421). Ancient Greece als...
