Sara Gutierrez Vaez-Hourscht English 103 31 January 2016 Essay #1: “Self Analysis” When I really think about what has influenced who I am today and how I view the world around me, I think about my mother. My mother played a huge part in my childhood and raised me to be both open minded and self aware. She’s able to do almost everything from changing the tires on the car to building a table to sewing up clothes and and cooking full course meals. From her, I learned just about everything I know. I grew up to be very independent and capable of doing things on my own, which I am extremely grateful for. The main reason why I am going to college now is also because of my mother. However, I wouldn’t exactly say I’m following in her footsteps as our career choices are extremely different from each others. She went to cosmetology school and I’m studying to become a registered nurse. …show more content…
You acquire traits and habits of the people around you and learn how to interact based on the actions and examples of others in your community. For me, I grew up in many, many different places. Because of my father’s work we were always moving and switching schools. I went to thirteen different schools and never stayed at one for longer than one year. But as hectic as it may seem, my school life was fairly simple and easy-going. Unknowingly, I was influenced very much by my peers. At each one of the schools I went to, I met a lot of kids who were very similar to me and those who were very different. I became interested in so many different cultures and languages and also gained a surplus of interests and hobbies from all of the new friends I made. All of the things I learned about other people and how they lived opened my eyes a lot and helped me to become more open minded and accepting of people and their customs, regardless of my own cultural habits and what my family had accustomed me

She was my only support system and took on the responsibility of caring, disciplining, and raising me in ways that my mother could not. My older sister ensured that I completed my tasks at school and at home. Being only a year apart and aware that I was growing up right beside her, she made it her priority to do her best academically to demonstrate the importance of education[an aspect that we were not raised to value]. She was my inspiration to become college bound and to take advantage of the resources at my school. I learned how to be resourceful and utilize the outside programs to improve my academic performance to compensate for my high school’s inadequacy. The hardworking qualities that have been instilled in me by my older sister have helped me get into UCLA, but witnessing my mother struggle is what further motivates me to obtain a college

Throughout my life my mother has always been my backbone and push me to strive for excellence and be academically perfect. I was taught to go above and beyond everyone else in class and work nonstop without excuses. However, the pressure from my mom triggered a negative effect in me and I eventually shutdown. Though I still managed to finish strong I felt that I did it to please my mom. Developing confidence, and competence is a challenge faced by novice nurses (Morrell & Ridgway, 2014). Over the course of my nursing degree developing, and maintaining confidence in my clinical practice has always been a personal challenge. During my preceptorship placement, I have the opportunity to continue to cultivate my confidence, and prepare to begin my practice as an independent graduate nurse. In the reflection, I will discuss how I have gradually become a confident practitioner through my experiences in my clinical placement, and especially those in my preceptorship placement.
Self awareness in nursing refers to how glowing nurses comprehend themselves, their strengths, weaknesses, attitude and ethics in order to better transact with their patients. Self- awareness includes review of self, together with self confidence. Self -regulation express beyond one`s emotion and being trustworthy. For nurses to be able to empathize with their patients and treat them with compassion, they have to be self aware. When nurses are self aware, they are capable to adapt to, or certainly change their attitudes and deed in order to understand how unusual people take care of them hence improving the nurse- patient relationship. Nurses must reflect carefully on whether they can sustain in dependence in caring for a client and whether the relationship interferes with gathering the client’s needs. According to Ransburg & Childress (2012), “accurately assessing skill acquisition will also assist nurse educators in designing personal professional development plans” (p.312). The aim

If it was not for my mother I likely would have been deprived of motivation throughout my educational career, but I knew I had to keep on going, not only in order to make her proud, but also in order to have a future in today’s society. As time goes on, a college degree is becoming more and more of a necessity. Finding a job that pays well without a college education is an extreme difficulty. To me, being a nurse requires a great sense of selflessness and courage to devote your time and being to helping others. Nurses work long hours and experience straining situations for the satisfaction and fulfillment of helping others. More specifically, experiencing life and death, as well as applying your full self--emotions, knowledge, courage, and strength--takes a toil on the mind and body, but the innate satisfaction, human connections, and experiences I would be able to live through prevails over any thought of stress. The quote “A nurse is one who opens the eyes of a newborn and gently closes the eyes of a dying man. It is indeed a high blessing to be the first and last to witness the beginning and end of life” further reflects
