There are many more ways of showing gratitude and that you can see how hard someone is working such as, nominating them for a staff award for, for example, best worker, so they can be recognised throughout the entire organisation for their hard work, determination and loyalty to the organisation. I have not yet been nominated for any awards, however within my work for my team I always receive praise and thank you for helping them with work and/ or doing some of their work for them to help clear back log as fast as possible. In my team to make sure each and every team member is treated with respect, equality and courtesy everyone's opinion is accepted, we also hold regular team meetings to address certain things that people have done well that
month. We also make sure everyone has a chance to say something to make sure everyone knows they have a voice in the team. This is done by going round the table asking everyone if they have anything to bring up about current issues or upcoming projects so they can put their views across, then as a team we all make our own points about the topic and discuss each other’s points to finally come to a conclusion. It is also very important that if an issue arises in the work place that all colleagues help each other over come the issue and do not leave one person to deal with it by themselves, as this becomes unfair and can massively damage working relationship.
I feel that the importance of service is to help a person in need because you could change someone's life, not because you feel that you need to. People who love what they are doing are the people who effect everything around them.Service has impacted my life because it makes me a better person. My family feels the impact, the community feels the impact, even servicing for a few hours a week affects the people around you. It makes the community a better place to live.
The first area identified for improvement is praising people for a job well done. Too many times I have passed on the opportunity to publicly recognize member either formally or informally for their efforts. From my point of view, when a task is assigned it is expected to be completed to the highest level of competency. Meeting this standard leaves little room for exemplary performance to be recognized. I intend to correct this by taking

Gratitude is one of the positive emotions shown from research and clinical trials to enhance the general well being of human beings. Gratitude is defined by Emmons (2004) as “a sense of thankfulness and joy in response to receiving a gift, whether the gift be a tangible benefit from a specific other or a moment of peaceful bliss evoked by natural beauty. Emmons and McCullough also see gratitude as an attitude, a habit, a personality trait and a way of handling difficult situations response (Emmons & Stern, 2013).
This is very important to have to get repeated gifts or donations for your organization. As a non-profit organization, you cannot afford to not have a program of gratitude. Promptness is key factor when it comes to donors, donors like promptness, send out that thank you letter. Sending out a thank you let the donor you received their gift. It lets the donor know the gift will be put to good use. Also, let the donor now they made the right decision and show that you are well-organized (Axelrad, 2014).
This involves recognising contributions and celebrating wins. Having high expectations for your team shows a leader believes in the abilities of his team, which increases the likelihood of a higher performing group (p. 282). It is imperative at this stage that the group are rewarded in some way for their effort; this could be as simple as a “thank you”, a “half-day off”, a “celebratory coffee & cake”. When leaders commend individuals for achieving the values or goals of the organisation, they give them courage, inspiring them to experience their own ability to deliver-even when the pressure is on. When we recognize women and men for their contributions we expand their awareness of their value to the organization and to their co-workers, imparting a sense of connectedness that, being social animals, all humans seek. While we may all be connected, leaders make sure that we're in touch (Kouzes & Posner, 2003).
Appreciative Inquiry is a change management approach which concentrates itself on determining what is working well within an organization, scrutinizing why it is working well and then focusing on doing more of these things. “Appreciative Inquiry focuses us on the positive aspects of our lives and leverages them to correct the negative. It’s the opposite of ‘problem-solving” (White, 1996). Appreciative Inquiry has it birthplace within the Case Western Reserve University doctoral program in Organizational Behavior and began as a partnership between David Cooperrider and his advisor Suresh Srivastva in 1980. The foundation of Appreciative Inquiry was established during the process of Cooperrider completing his doctoral thesis. Initially, Cooperrider’s work was concentrated on constructing a conventional analysis or an organizational examination of what were the flaws within the personnel side of the organization. “The history of Appreciative Inquiry is the history of a major shift in the practice of organization development and transformation. In fact, it is also the history of an unplanned, even unintended, process with no particular intent at all to use it for changing organizations or other human systems”( Watkins et al, 2011. p.23).
Unlike many behavioral approaches to change, AI does not focus on changing people. Instead, it invites people to engage in building the kinds of organizations and communities that they want to work and live in. (Mohy & Watkins, p. 4)
Individualism is rampant in our world. More and more people are concerned with what they want, when they want it and how they want it. They put blinders on and go about their work, convinced that “looking out for number one” is the only way to succeed and find happiness. If everyone were to adopt this way of thinking and living, the world would become violently competitive, gloomy, and callous. However, if we open our lives and give service to those less fortunate than ourselves, we allow our hearts to receive immeasurable happiness. There are countless members of society, who make service and ultimately self-sacrifice a part of their everyday lives. One of the greatest examples the world has of a self-sacrificing person is Mother Teresa. She said, “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love… It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.” Doctors Without Borders is a powerful humanitarian organization that was most recently volunteering in Haiti. Part of their mission statement reads, “…We unite direct medical care with a commitment to bearing witness and speaking out against the underlying causes of suffering. Our aid workers and staff protest violations of humanitarian law on behalf of populations who have no voice, and bring the concerns of their patients to public forums…” These are just two mainstream examples of people and organizations that live and work for others, to improve the quality of their lives.

In order to fulfill the 12 hours of community service requirement for Nutrition course 139 I applied with five organizations on the approved list. The organization that replied me the fastest was Open Heart Kitchen, they mostly operate in Pleasanton and Livermore areas. Their application and signing up for shift process gives a feeling that this organization is massive, and many individuals really care about the less fortunate. From observation and conversations with the site supervisor, I believe this organization relies on individual donations, small business donations and large corporate donations such as Safeway and Walmart. This organization also relies on volunteers to work every day, they get workers from students fulfilling their hours and resume, individuals fulfilling court orders, and those that just want to help the less fortunate.
If you are not used to thanking anyone for anything you do not have any proper type of manners. You can get more things from people if you say this phrase. When making things such as purchases this would be the correct thing to use. People feel more appreciated when you thank them. Interrupting a grown-ups conversation is one of the worst possible commandments ever.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
It causes them to think, plan and make decisions according to the team. In the past teamwork culture has taken a backseat. However with changing times, organizations understood the importance of nurturing and promoting the culture of teamwork (p.1). In order to promote teamwork, management leaders need to clearly communicate to everyone that the expectation of exceptional work is not just an individual level but at a team level and collaboration is expected out of every team (p.2). Teams that are demonstrating teamwork should be recognized. According to Conway (n.d) “ set expectations that bonuses, rewards, or compensation will vary depending on the collaborative practices adopted and followed by each team along with the individual achievements and contribution as a team member (p.2). Management should also share the outstanding achievements with other teams and organizations, so that people feel encouraged to participate and nature the team work culture
