Ashoka Indian Ruler
One of the greatest rulers of India's history is Ashoka (Asoka). Ruling
for thirty-eight years (274 B.C.-232 B.C.), he was generally mentioned
in his inscriptions as Devanampiya Piyadasi ("Beloved of the gods"). As
the third emperor of the Mauryan dynasty, he was born in the year 304
B.C. His greatest achievements were spreading Buddhism throughout his
empire and beyond. He set up an ideal government for his people and
conquered many lands, expanding his kingdom. The knowledge of Ashoka's
early reign is limited because little information was found. His edicts
and inscriptions allowed us to understand his reign and empire, and
have an insight into the events that took place during this remarkable
period of history. Eight years after he took his throne, Ashoka's
powerful armies attacked and conquered Kalinga (present day Orissa).
Although he had conquered many other places, this violent war was the
last war he ever fought and a turning point of his career. He was
disgusted by the extreme deaths of numerous civilians, especially the
Brahmans. All these misfortunes brought Ashoka to turn into a religious
ruler compared to a military ruler. As he turned to Buddhism, he
emphasized dharma (law of piety) and ahimsa (nonviolence). He realized
he could not spread Buddhism all by himself and therefore appointed
officers to help promote the teachings. These officers were called
Dhamma Mahamattas or "Officers of Righteousness"" They were in charge
of providing welfare and happiness among the servants and masters.
Preventing wrongful doings and ensuring special consideration was also
their duty. Emphasizing his role as king, he paid close attention to
welfare, the building of roads and rest houses, planting medicinal
trees, and setting up healing centers. In order to pursue ahimsa,
Ashoka gave up his favorite hobby of hunting and forbade the killing of
animals, spreading vegetarianism throughout India. Furthermore, his
soldiers were taught the golden rule- to behave to others the way you
want them to behave to you, which is the basic law of life. In the
nineteenth century, a large number of edicts written in Brahmi script
carved on rocks and stone pillars were discovered in India, proving the
existence of Ashoka. These edicts, found scattered in more than 30
places throughout India, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan, are mainly
concerned with moral principles Ashoka recommended, his conversion to
Buddhism, his personality and his success as a king. The Minor Edicts
is a summary of Ashoka's instruction of dharma, which talks about the
purity of thoughts, kindness, thruthfulness, reverence, and other good
morals of life. The Fourteen Rock Edicts were the major edicts, and

He was the son of Robert, Duke of Normandy, his mother, Herleva, the daughter of a tanner of Falaise. In 1035 William’s father Robert, Duke of Normandy, went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, in which he died. Before starting the pilgrimage, he presented to the nobles his seven year old child demanding their allegiance. "He is little", the father said, "but he will grow, and, if God please, he will mend." William, after a period of anarchy, became the ruler of Normandy in his father's place at the age of nine. William had a youth of clean life and of much natural piety, while the years of storm and stress through which he passed gave him an endurance of character which lasted to his life's end. During the time of anarchy in Normandy he became a skilled military leader and defeated his enemies, uniting his duchy. Once he began fighting, rumor has it that he never lost a battle.

In ancient history there have been many great leaders who had saved the Roman Empire from destruction and demise. The leaders and heroes of the Roman Empire are countless, but one leader stands out from all the rest. Augustus Caesar’s contributions to Roman history helped make Rome the dominant empire we know of today. Augustus Caesar was without a question the greatest political leader in the history of the Roman Empire.

The goal of the Dhammapada is ultimately to create perceptive and righteous people. With the way the text is written, it is obvious that the goal is to get readers and listeners alike to think about this text and ponder over the sayings of the Buddha. The very way the first chapter is written gives a preview of the things that should be noticed throughout the text: good verses bad, disciplined verses undisciplined, and practice verses laziness. The bhikkhu is one person who sets the right path for people to follow. The bhikkhu shows the people what virtues are positive and wholesome. The bhikkhu gives and receives from society and strives to cultivate the kind of mental state as prescribe by the Buddha.
One of the most talked about subjects in the U.S economy is the topic of minimum wage. With president Obama working to increase the minimum wage to 10.10$ per hour people, both economists and politicians alike, have been debating whether or not raising the bar is a smart idea. At a time when the country the country’s inflation continues to rise at a steady pace and Americans are constantly working to feed their families, some economists know that a raise in the minimum wage would help elevate some of the difficulty. The last time the federal minimum wage was raised was in July of 2009, where rose from 6.55$ to 7.25$. However there are plenty of reasons as to why the wage should be raised. Some may not think it, but raising the federal wage could very well assist the U.S with some of its largest economic problems; the increasing standard of living in the U.S, the recession in the economy, and even the ever inflating U.S national debt.
By raising minimum wage it will in fact save the government money. With people earning more, they can provide more. It may help people get off food stamps, a supplemental nutrition assistance program because they now can afford food. In fact, children would be more financially secure due to the increase in their parent’s income. Raising the wage of Americans should be the first step into the fight to eliminate poverty. It will allow people to be paid the amount they deserve, help many low income families surpass the poverty line, and allow them to be more financially stabled.
"Raising the minimum wage will benefit about 28 million workers across the country. And it will help businesses, too - raising the wage will put more money in people's pockets, which they will pump back into the economy by spending it on goods and services in their communities." -- President Obama
should treat them the same way we would want to be treated. In school everyone thought they
Encourage the parents to make mutual respect the foundation of their relationship. Many of the children presented in Dr. Perry’s book had an adverse respect for adults and other authority figures. I believe that showing a child respect is the best method of teaching them to respect others. People tend to respond positively when they are treated with respect.
A minimum wage is an hourly wage that is established by the government which represents the minimum amount an individual receives per hour. The federal minimum wage was established in 1938 under the “Presidency of Franklin Roosevelt” (Henderson). Currently, majority of the states have their minimum wage less than $10. However, the federal government wants to increase the minimum wage to $12 across the United States. The federal government believes that increasing the minimum wage will assist numerous people in the United States as most individuals are working in a minimum wage job to support their families. About “75.3 million people ages sixteen and over worked for hourly wages in 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics” (“Minimum Wage”). Meaning almost a quarter of the workforce of this nation are working a minimum wage job. Numerous people believe that these workers are not able to make their ends meet, and increasing the minimum wage will help these individuals substantially. Even though people believe that increasing the minimum wage will benefit the society, they tend to overlook the drawbacks of increasing the minimum wage, and how it will prove to be detrimental for the society.
These three methods includes: equalizing power, being open minded and willing to change, and treating another person as an in devisal. When communicating with the opposite gender is difficult if neither parties is willing to change. Being open minded means that you are willing to make changes if the other party have a different opinions and idea that may conflict with your own beliefs. In my opinion, I think treating another person like you wanted to be treated will work the best of the three. If you wanted to be treated with respect, it would be balanced if you treat other people with the same amount of respected expected to receive. If the other party is not treating you with respect, does not mean that you are a disrespectful person, it would just mean that the other person is disrespectful and needs to learn their proper
