I am enrolled as a student at Ashford University in the Bachelor of Arts Program. My major is library science and media. My ultimate goal is not to become a teacher, despite the required education courses required to earn this degree. The library science and media major is relevant to my chosen profession because the role of the library is changing and evolving, much like today’s classrooms, with technology. For almost three years, my job title has been library branch manager/library assistant III. I intend to continue in this field with aspirations of being offered a full-time position and/or better pay. I enjoy working for and getting to know the people in the community, who visit the library. Often times, my patrons make me feel more appreciated than those who I employed by. I enjoy helping my patrons find books and movies and assisting them with the computers as they need me. The library is a safe and welcoming environment for all, and I like being part of that. …show more content…
The most efficient strategy regarding my coursework for library science and media at Ashford University is to not procrastinate. Discussion posts are due on Thursdays and assignments are due on Mondays. I generally try to post my discussions on Tuesdays, which allows me to focus on responding to my peers’ discussion posts on or before Thursdays. Once those have been addressed, I can give my complete attention to completing the writing assignment, which is to be submitted before midnight on Mondays. This routine enables me to not become overwhelmed with my classwork and still be an active wife, mother, and librarian. My goal is to reach a point where I can complete the majority of the assignments on or before Fridays, which will free up more time for my
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new
An HBCU is a college/university that embeds the nature of power and black excellence; a place with surroundings that doesn’t force you, but makes you want to push yourself to become a better person inside and out, and throughout the community. Transferring would allow myself to be put in an atmosphere of continuous motivation and growth that I would feed off of my superiors and the people around me.
Your schedule will be as open as a barren desert. You will relieve all your stress by procrastinating. You don’t have to worry about the assignment until the day l before it is due, and this is a good thing. as you can zone out and focus on the activity at hand whether that’s browsing online, watching a movie, or hanging out with friends. The assignments will begin to haunt you at first; this will be a challenge that everyone faces, yet you need to realize that paper isn’t going to write itself, and neither are you; at least, not yet. That paper has a long life ahead of it before it needs to get turned in, why make it suffer? Speedily add to it the day before to ensure that no pain goes to the paper. In class, you don’t have to listen, but rather just act like you doing work. You can just look at the notes, that the teacher wrote when you get home. If you forget, it isn’t the end of the world you still have a day to study; the test is tomorrow. Procrastination is the gift that keeps giving. The more you procrastinate, the easier it will get, the more your grades will increase, and the more you’ll have fun. Yet, don’t get too carried away. You must procrastinate but still must complete your assignments. School is important, yet your activities outweigh the need for completion of assignments, so they can wait. What you need and want should come
Balancing my priorities by using an organized system has significantly helped me to manage my course work and assistantship goals and be able to include time for my training goals. The most impactful activity has been setting up a monthly, weekly, and daily calendar that covered the entire term with an outline of all major course assignments and assistantship projects with a clear timeline to complete all requirements. Unlike previous semesters, I felt more at ease during the final couple weeks of the semester compared to my peers. This semester, I will continue to commit Thursdays and Fridays to research assistantship work only. Structuring my time this way has really helped me to focus on specific assignments: I feel more effective when I can dedicate an entire day to one project, paper, or task. Though simple, writing everything down and keeping track of my time has facilitated effective prioritization of my time to achieving my goals.
The typical college course requires the successful completion of challenging assignments, such as exams, term papers, and presentations. With deadlines looming for these assignments, some students will begin their work right away, while others will wait until the last minute to get started. While research evidence does not support the utility of last-minute strategies, such as cramming for exams, students may nonetheless engage in these behaviors as a result of procrastination (Schraw, Wadkins, & Olafson, 2007; Senecal, Koestner, & Vallerand, 1995). For active procrastinators, their act could lead to positive outcomes, such as high grades,
Learning that having good time management skills has shown me that I can take my time and accomplish more. When relating this to school, I can honestly say that starting early is the best gift that I can give myself. As a full-time student with a family and a full-time job, my time is a limited resource (Britton & Tesser, 1991 pg.405). When I start early on an assignment, I don't have to rush and if I mess up, I can start over or seek help if necessary. My work schedule doesn’t always agree with my school schedule but for the most part, I try to have all of my school work completed by Thursday. As I'm approaching the last week in this class, I have began to look over the discussion posts first and then I look over the complete section to familiarize myself with the material before I even go to the read section (Chambers, 2015 pg.4). I found that to be especially helpful when I first began this class because the things that I already knew or felt like I knew, I went ahead and did it.
I had an anatomy class my sophomore year of high school, and I was always intrigued with how our body works and learning the different names of the different structures. Many things that will challenge me the most with this field is taking over 12 hours for most of the semesters, studying more than I am used too, clearing my schedule for school more than I ever have, and not procrastinate. Right now, I have exactly 12 credit hours, and it 's not too bad, but later on in the future, I know it will definitely be a struggle as the classes continue to get harder. The way I plan to overcome this challenge is to start studying more than I usually do right now, so when it does become time to take more hours, I won 't be so stressed. I will also always have to be prepared to study a head of time. During high school, I had always winged my test, or study only a little bit for them, but as this semester continues on, I am realizing that studying is the most important part in college. Clearing my schedule for school has always been a bad habit of mine. I plan to overcome this challenge, by turning off my phone when I am studying so I don 't get distracted and get tempted to hanging out with them. Hanging out with my friends is also a huge part with my procrastinating as well. So to overcome that, I will get my work done before I make any
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
A challenge I was facing in first semester was completing my assignments on time. This was a challenge for me because I always tried to complete the homework at the last minute, like assigned chapters we had to read from the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, and I wouldn’t make enough time to complete the work. This was a challenge for me because I don’t normally read in my free time. Another confrontation I had was completing final drafts on the computer. I had trouble finishing these assignments also because I wouldn’t make enough time for the work, like the final draft we had to complete from the novel To Kill A Mockingbird.
Flexible and quick to adapt, I know that I have the ability to motivate others and myself in this ever-advancing field. My personal experiences in pursuing higher education as a first generation college student have made me no stranger to adversity or creating my own path, qualities I believe add greatly to leaders within librarianship. My commitment to reading, learning, and questioning make me the outgoing and accomplished candidate the University of Washington needs.
Time management is not easy. It has been a problem most of the time for me. Making time to be successful for this semester can be really hard. One of the struggles for time management is to know how to balance work, family, and school. Coming home from work on an afternoon shift from three to
Now that my studies are coming to a close, I am resolved to make a difference in the information professional field by providing a positive impact in library administration. My years of experience as an administrative professional combined with the knowledge and dedication that I have to libraries and librarians makes me uniquely qualified for this responsibility.
When an individual makes the decision to pursue a higher degree of education in a desired field of study, he or she may have decided to follow a professional path in the world of libraries and information science. My career goal has been to become the director of the library system that I am currently working. As director, I oversee all library programs, budget, staff, and library operations. I would like to continue as director for the next 3 to 5 years. After reading about the other opportunities in the library world in “So You Want to be a Librarian” by Lauren Pressley, my goals may have changed. Plans to work in the youth services field of librarianship is a personal choice because of my strong desire to work with young adults. After 3-5 years, I would like to be working for the Division of Library and Information Services of Florida. I have received such valuable resources from the youth coordinator through workshops and webinars. They have provided guidance in my planning for services for the youth in our county library system. After meeting the team that works there each director works autonomously in their specific area, but have impact in all the libraries throughout the state of Florida.
I work in the day and attend school in the evening so it is critical for me to know how to manage my time effecteively. However my workload at work had became extremely unpredictable and with the weekly assignments for the FOUN1019 course it was very difficult for me to manage my time. I usually create a list of task I have to complete with the date it needs to be completed, then work on them individually to meet the due date. I realised this alone was not a very effective method for completing my assignment or managing time because I did not consider the preparation some of the task required. I then decided to approach my task differently to ensure that I was able to complete the weekly FOUN1019 assignment as well as other course work and the meet my deliverables at work. I kept making my list but I broke my task down into smaller task and allocate a time slot for finishing it eg. FOUN1019 Essay Outline would have several subtask: write introductory paragraph, write first body paragraph, write sentence outline for remaining body paragraphy and draft essay outline. I found this method to helped me to accomplish more task because I was more resoureful with my
There is no way to be an honest student if you have never engaged in the entertainment of procrastination. Few of the motivated people in this world realize that procrastination isn't simply pointless nonsense. It has a pattern. A process. And it is overlooked by those of another mindset called productivity. If you are a procrastinator you will already know about these concepts and perhaps will want to add some suggestions of your own. For the more productive this mindset will not come naturally so that is why you now can refer to this paper to more effectively engage in the ancient art of the idle: procrastination.
