Ashes of Roses by Mary Jane Auch is about a girl named Rose. Rose is an immigrant from Ireland and had to move to America. She went to America with Ma and Maureen. They stayed with their Uncle Patrick for a couple days until they had to leave. Ma had to go back to Ireland without the girls. Rose has to find a job so she can support her sister, Maureen. She started working at a factory called Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. A few weeks after Rose's first day of work, there was a very big fire in the factory. Rose had to run through the fire and escape from the elevator shaft, even though Rose hated elevators. Rose evolves from being afraid to being brave in a crisis.
