Artificial Intellegence: Identification And Description Of The Issue
Over the years people have been wanting robots to become more Intelligent. In the past 50 years since computers have been around, the computer world has grown like you wouldn't believe. Robots have now been given jobs that were 15 years ago no considered to be a robots job. Robots are now part of the huge American government Agency the FBI. They are used to disarm bombs and remove dangerous products from a site without putting human life in danger. You probably don't think that when you are in a carwash that a robotic machine is cleaning your car.
The truth is that they are. The robot is uses senses to tell the main computer what temperature the water should be and what style of wash the car is getting
e.g. Supreme or Normal wash. Computer robots are being made, that learn from their mistakes. Computers are now creating their own programs. In the past there used to be some problems, now they are pretty much full proof. The
Television and Film business has to keep up with the demands from the critics sitting back at home, they try and think of new ideas and ways in which to entertain the audiences. They have found that robotics interests people. With that have made many movies about robotics (e.g. Terminator, Star Wars,
Jurassic Park ). Movie characters like the terminator would walk, talk and do actions by its self mimicking a human through the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Movies and Television robots don't have Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) but are made to look like they do. This gives us the viewers a reality of robotics with
AI.
Understanding Of The IT Background Of The Issue
Artificial Intelligence means " Behavior performed by a machine that would require some degree of intelligence if carried out by a human ". The Carwash machine has some intelligence which enables it to tell the precise temperature of the water it is spraying onto your car. If the water is to hot it could damage the paint work or even make the rubber seals on the car looser. The definition above shows that AI is present in everyday life surrounding humans where ever they go. Alan Turing Invented a way in which to test AI. This test is called the Turing Test. A computer asks a human various questions. Those conducting the test have to decide whether the human or the computer is asking the questions.
Analysis Of The Impact Of The Issue
With the increasing amount of robots with AI in the work place and in everyday
Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holding Inc., commonly known just as Ben & Jerry’s, produces ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet. Founded in Burlington, Vermont in 1978, the company is a subunit of the Unilever mega-company. Founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield created the company after completing an ice cream making course at Pennsylvania State University’s Creamery. In May of 1978, with a small investment totaling a little over ten grand, the two business partners opened an ice cream store in Virginia. Two years later, the two took their talents and started packing their ice cream into pints. In 1981, the company became a franchise, opening their second store in Shelburne, Virginia. Today, Ben and Jerry’s locations have expanded across the globe.
Upon review, Ben & Jerry’s Homemade should approve the offer from Unilever for $36.00 (cash) per share. In reviewing the offers two questions were presented. The two questions included: the social mission of Ben & Jerry’s surviving a takeover, and maintaining the best interests of the shareholders. To follow, will be the justification for the Unilever offer, alternative offers, and the risks that are involved with a possible takeover.
One of the hottest topics that modern science has been focusing on for a long time is the field of artificial intelligence, the study of intelligence in machines or, according to Minsky, “the science of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men”.(qtd in Copeland 1). Artificial Intelligence has a lot of applications and is used in many areas. “We often don’t notice it but AI is all around us. It is present in computer games, in the cruise control in our cars and the servers that route our email.” (BBC 1). Different goals have been set for the science of Artificial Intelligence, but according to Whitby the most mentioned idea about the goal of AI is provided by the Turing Test. This test is also called the imitation game, since it is basically a game in which a computer imitates a conversating human. In an analysis of the Turing Test I will focus on its features, its historical background and the evaluation of its validity and importance.
Pietas is a state of being loyal and devoted to the gods, the state, and one’s ancestry. This loyalty and devotion are often highly religious, hence Pious Aeneas, and invoke an idea of duty towards other Romans. This conception of loyalty and devotion towards fellow members of the state invoke a feeling of brotherly love towards one another. Throughout the Aeneid, this devotion to each other is clearly evident, as there is often a pair of Trojans with a deep emotional bond. This is most evident in Book IX of the Aeneid, during Nisus’ and Euryalus’ version of the Iliad’s nighttime killing spree. Unlike in the Iliad, their plan goes badly, as Euryalus is discovered by the enemy and slaughtered in front of Nisus, who was still unseen to enemy forces. Instead of running away back to base and live another day, however, Nisus is awestruck with grief over Euryalus’ death, which prompts him to suicidally charge the men who killed his friend. In doing this, Nisus is exemplifying Roman pietas, due to his devotion to his partner over what may seem best for himself. This scene can be likened to Turnus’ death, as Aeneas, like Nisus, has such a strong sense of duty towards his compatriots that instead of doing what he desired at first, to spare Turnus, he kills Turnus because of the pure emotional connection that he shares with Pallas. This pure emotional connection with one’s fellow man is pietas, which Aeneas himself embodies. Virgil is attempting to stress the importance of the bond that should exist between all Romans by having Aeneas, the embodiment of religiousness and dutifulness, kill Turnus due his strong relationship with Pallas. As evident by the relationship between Nisus and Euryalus and later Aeneas and Pallas, Virgil is conveying the need for a strong community spirit, where people can get along with one
The Car Wash industry began to start and grow across the U.S. after the conclusion of World War II. America’s economic rebirth and prosperity created a boom in the housing and automobile industry. What began as a business to satisfy Americans’ love of the automobile has grown over the past several decades into an international industry. From washing one’s car in the driveway with a water hose and bucket of soapy water, to the do-it-yourself, unattended coin operated high-pressure wand locations, to today’s professional car washing businesses which feature complex automatic equipment and technological systems to wash cars more safely and effectively than ...
To begin, the main issue of development of Artificial Intelligence is the economic factors. Firstly, one of the main negative effects of AI on economy is unemployment. According to the suggesting of Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne of Oxford University during next 20 years 47 per cent of all USA jobs under the threat and will be replaced with intelligence machines (Vincent). If jobs will be automated, people will lose their workplaces and it is becomes one of the harmful problems not only for economy, but also for society. Because, if people will not have a workplace, they will not be able to provide their needs. Furthermore, development of AI can be a reason of increasing inequality of wages. For instance, the salaries of computer workers approximately earn 10 to 15 percent more than others. (Frey and Osborne). It is also one of the economic problems because it can lead to discontent of workers who hav...
Aeneas suffers a great deal. Emerging from this suffering, Aeneas will lead his people and conquer their new homeland. Aeneas has many obstacles that stand in his way. Juno hates the Trojans and wants to do everything in her power to prevent the Trojans from reaching Rome and Italy. Aeneas has inner obstacles as well. Until Aeneas descends into Hades, he will never fully gave up his old life in Troy. He constantly thinks about his life in Troy. "Weeping, I must give up the shores, the harbors that were my home, the plain that once was Troy" (Book III, lines 14-15). He was still grieving for the family and friends that he lost in Troy. At one point Aeneas even said that it would have been better if he had died in Troy. When Aeneas descended into the underworld, Anchises showed Aeneas his lineage and all of the great Roman leaders that came from Aeneas. Anchises told Aeneas that the Romans’ great gift would be for ruling. " Roman, these will be your arts: to teach the ways of peace to those you conquer, to spare defeated peoples, tame the proud" (Book VI, lines 1135 – 1137). Aeneas was inspired by this vision of the future....
Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, allows a machine to function as if the machine has the capability to think like a human. While we are not expecting any hovering cars anytime soon, artificial intelligence is projected to have a major impact on the labor force and will likely replace about half the workforce in the United States in the decades to come. The research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly at an unstoppable rate. So while many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, computer scientists actually propose that robots would benefit a country’s efficiency of production, allowing individuals to reap the benefits of the robots. For the advantage of all, researchers and analysts have begun to mend the past ideas of human-robot interaction. They have pulled inspiration from literary works of Isaac Asimov whom many saw as the first roboticist ahead of his time, and have also gotten ideas of scholarly research done by expert analysts. These efforts have began to create an idea of a work force where humans and robots work together in harmony, on a daily basis.
Organizations everywhere use different methods to push members of their organization to complete various tasks on a daily basis. Whether these approaches are successful or not successful, displays how effective the organization’s motivating factors really are. Motivation is an essential element that must be incorporated into every organization to ensure that goals are accomplished and so that members of the organization always stick to their mission. James Porter and Lyman Porter define motivation as “the degree and type of effort that an individual exhibits in a behavioral situation…and has to do with the direction and quality of that effort” (Perry, 2005). People often wonder what factors cause an individual to perform their job in a certain
There are expert systems that can solve complex problems that humans train their whole lives for. In 1997, IBM's Deep Blue defeated the world champion in a game of chess (Karlgaard, p43). Expert systems design buildings, configure airplanes, and diagnose breathing problems. NASA's Deep Space One probe left with software that lets the probe diagnose problems and fix itself (Lyons).
As the world progresses through multiple innovative eras of technology, the people want more inventions to assist their everyday lives. Today, the field of technology mainly revolves around the subject of artificial intelligence. In particular, a company known as Hanson Robotics, strives for artificial intelligence, or AI, to match the intelligence of a human. As a result of the increased intelligence, the technology, robots for Hanson Robotics, will have the same work potential as humans. Although Hanson Robotics believes that their robots will help the human race, they cause a potential harm to human jobs and lives.
When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.
I don’t think there is any reason for these robots to have every ability that a human does. There is no way they are going to have the intelligence a human does. Artificial Intelligence is just going to bring more harm into our communities. We can’t trust the robots doing the “everyday” human activities, they are going to lead to unemployment, and will lead to laziness causing more obesity.
Our minds have created many remarkable things, however the best invention we ever created is the computer. The computer has helped us in many ways by saving time, giving accurate and precise results, also in many other things. but that does not mean that we should rely on the computer to do everything we can work with the computer to help us improve and at the same time improve the computer too. A lot of people believe that robots will behave like humans someday and will be walking on the earth just like us. There should be a limit for everything so that our world would remain peaceful and stable. At the end, we control the computers and they should not control us.
Washing machines have become the most popular mechanical device throughout all modern times. “For thousands of years, one of the most tiresome household tasks was the washing of clothes and lines” (Field Enterprises Educational Corporation 45 ). Washing machines are greatly needed in everyday life. Much labor and has been relieved due to the wonderful invention of the washing machine. The washing machine is also a major time saver. Washing machines have developed proficiently throughout all the years and are still developing day by day. From the wash board to the electric washing machine, laundry has truly been transformed in America, as a result, cleaning laundry is nearly effortless.
