Recommended: How you define art
My definition of art, while short, would be anything that is aesthetically pleasing to a person. But, who defines what art is, and what makes art work a form of expression? I think the cliché beauty is in the eye of the beholder, stands true when it comes to determination of what art is. With specific relations to video games, I believe that these creations are a form of art because of the amount of detail that is put forth to develop a world and an atmosphere to engross a person in. Take for example, Super Mario Galaxy, the colors to capture you attention, the music to drive you forward, and the concept to keep you coming back. All of these combined, make up one great game, and an overall multidimensional work of art. In the article “Why Video …show more content…
With that in mind, how can a game not be an experience? With the expansion of graphics, sound quality, and emersion, it’s almost impossible to say that gamming is not an experience. For instance, Resident Evil is a horror game that places a character in an almost hopeless situation, and expects the player to survive. But the best part of this series has to be the locations, with which visuals are key to creating an eerie and isolated feeling, and music can range from dramatic, to calming, or even silences to really encapsulate the player. How could this not be considered an experience? But, Chayka thinks differently, saying that the multifaceted elements bought into games are things of art. These elements are used to evoke emotion, and an empathetic feeling. Like with Resident Evil, you want to survive, you want to keep going, and you can almost feel for the character and there …show more content…
While most traditional art styles, like painting, poetry, and drawing is a singular job, there is not any room for collaboration. Which, could be a good thing considering The Sistine Chapel was done by Michelangelo, and didn’t require help from anyone else, as much as I know. But comparing Michelangelo’s conventional type of art to gamming, are in completely different realms. Video games are nowhere near traditional by any means. Chayka mentions that games require a huge amount of participation on all parts of a team to successfully achieve complete, and desired results on behalf of the visioner. But in this instance, Chayka and Ebert share the almost same idea. Chayka’s thoughts that a team works towards an artist’s vision is almost similar to what Ebert was saying. Think about Hideo Kojima, he was the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series, and he worked closely with the staff of Nintendo to bring his vision to fruition. While it might not be exactly what Ebert was saying, a single artist like Kojima had an idea that he wanted created, and used a team of skilled experts, adding, changing, or removing their own creations and thoughts to the end product. With this example, Ebert’s thoughts on the single artist would be Kojima, and the creative integrity of his staff supports Chayka’s idea
It is art fulfilling its role in society. It is art that brings the moral issues. It is art that makes us human.
If I were to ask you what is art, and how can one find it? What would you say? Well if it were me being asked those question, I would simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design and it could be found all among us. You may define it differently only because art could be defined in many ways. I could simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design. Well according to an article written by Shelley Esaak, an art history expert she mentioned that art has a way of stimulating different parts of our brains to make us laugh or incite us to riot, with a whole gamut of emotions in between. She also mentioned that art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. [1]
Art by definition is the conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium. Whether it was shown visually or musically, the arts of the twenties were reflective of the time period. Even in books, the extravagance that people lived in was evident.
Art is defined as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Jackson Pollock does an amazing job creating art. Pollock’s works are not as big as some of the other artists like Monet’s paintings but his works are still large enough to engulf the viewer.
I choice to study the work of art named All Wars Memorial to Colored Soldiers and Sailors by J. Otto Schweizer. What makes this a piece of work art is its capability to tell a story. Art is defined as the expression of human creative skill and imagination, typically a painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or the emotional power. I define art as a piece of work that has the power to tell an emotional story that will touch the hearts of the observers, or at least causes the observers to reflect or meditate. I do not believe that "good" art has a definition; however, if I had to define "good" art, I would define it as a piece of work that really captures the attention of the audience and can keep them
What is Art? Some say it's a bunch of drawings. Other could say it's a form of creativity. However, to me art is merely an artist's thought, imagination and feelings converted into their work. Early famous work such as Van Gogh " The Starry Night", shows these traits. This painting seems to show the artist's twisted mind, his thoughts and imagination as he spends his time in an asylum. These traits aren't however just limited to paintings. They could also be shown in books or graphic novels like "Hip Hop Family Tree". In "Hip Hop Family Tree" by Ed Piskor, the author converts these traits into characters. Since the character is based off on the people in real life, the author has used his mind and imagination to portray as if the character were alive. One of the characters "Fab Five Freddy", is an example. Fab Five Freddy wasn't just all about hip hop. He was also an artist. He and a couple of other artists are the ones who gave birth to street art which is important in the 1970's. He expressed art through graffiti. People may view graffiti as dirty and an violation, but to Freddy, it was real art along with hip hop. I feel like Freddy and I have similar thoughts. People tend to give painting too much credit. They praise it as it was the best form of art. But what about
What is a satisfactory definition of art? What reason do we need to think that there is some moral reason that transgression cannot be art? It art simply just a painting of landscape or is it that we need to be outraged and shocked to really think what contributes as art? Are immoral works of art must be necessarily bad forms of art?
Merriam-Webster defines art as “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects”. The Oxford Dictionary defines art as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power”. Modern art is art, because it expresses the creator’s application of creative skill and imagination.
Art is an expression of feelings, body language, and culture produced by humans. Art can be expressed in many different ways, and in many different forms from time to time! You’d be amazed with the different types of skilled work artists come up with each day and it’s all just someone, one person expressing how they feel or what they believe. One form of art that I find very interesting is Fauvism.
Art in its broader meaning, however, involves both skill and creative imagination in a musical, literary, visual, or performance context. Art provides the person or people who produce it and the community that observes it with an experience that might be aesthetic, emotional, intellectual, or a combination of these qualities.
Art can be defined in many ways by an individual. One can say that any creative output by a person is considered art. Others contend that art must conform to a societal standard and the basis of the creation should be understood by most intellectual people. For example, some contend that computer-generated images, such as fractals, are not art due to the large role played by a computer. E.O. Wilson states “the exclusive role of the arts is to intensify aesthetic and emotional response. Works of art communicate feeling directly from mind to mind, with no intent to explain why the impact occurs” (218). A simple definition may be that art is the physical expression of the ideals formed by the mind.
Fashion takes on many different facets and concerns many subsets— a model sashaying down the runway in a gown encrusted in real gems, Lady Gaga’s infamous dress made of cuts of raw beef, a teenage girl obsessing over the season’s latest styles— it is all an expression of our minds and who we are or want to be, made tangible. It is a medium just like any other, for while artists wield brushes and paints, designers use thread and cloth to illustrate their vision. The artistry is none more so apparent than in the exclusive world of haute couture, a world of extravagance that caters to aesthetics, producing one-of-a-kind wearable masterpieces that are made to be admired rather than worn. It is without doubt, high fashion and its design is an art.
So to answer the question you need to think what is art? To me art is a form of representing a person’s ideas which can be in any form of media whether it be a painting, a film, or a song, a novel or a photograph. For it to be classed as art though it must provoke emotion or thought and show signs of creativity.
Yet, not all photography is considered art depending on opinion. There are a variety of opinions when it comes to photography being an art. Finally, countless untrained people are now taking snapshots with smart phones and then editing them with apps like Instagram. Are these people artists? Are their photographs works of art?
Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in (architecture) to the movies we see (theatre) to the books that we read (literature). Even in ancient culture art has played a crucial role. In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
