Arranged Marriage. Does it really represent true love? According to Australian Government: Attorney-Generals Department, "Arranged marriage is a forced marriage is when a person gets married without freely and fully consenting, because they have been coerced, threatened or deceived." Arranged Marriages do not allow men and women to express themselves through marriage. The soon-to-be couple have no say of who they want to marry, their parents pick out a soulmate for them. In arranged marriage you're being forced to commit your life and heart to a complete stranger. In a love marriage the couple knows each other's strength and weaknesses. In an arranged marriage some don't know their spouse's background information and they don't know how to handle each other. Being forced to get marriage is not always everyone's first decision. …show more content…
The Australian Government also quoted that "Forced marriage is a slavery-like practice, a form of gender-based violence and an abuse of human rights." One can infer that when someone is being forced to marriage, your human rights are being restrained.
Slavery is the act of being in bondage. Being in bondage isn't a good thing. Neither is being threatened for denying forced marriage. Stated by Daily Mail, a couple in London menaced their daughter by telling her if she doesn't get married by force she would be killed, and they would behead her if she reports them. The daughter "claims she suffered repeated violence at the hands of her parents and grandmother as a teenager and was told she would be killed if she refused to marry abroad as this would 'bring dishonour on the family." Plenty of other situations like this was reported. This time this is coming from an executive director of Tahirih Justice Center in the United States. Layli Miller-Muro tells North Carolina Public Radio (NPR) that "Some of our clients have ... actually committed suicide as their only way out." Not letting anyone express love can lead to them expressing bad
behavior. As stated in BollywoodShaadis, "In India, it is believed 'you not only marry the person but their family as well'. Well, in an arranged marriage the couple receives love and support from each other's family." Is the support and love going too far? Planning the wedding too quickly and the two people having little time to get to know each other, they don't have much support they actually thought. If they have nothing in common with each other, where is the support when they both don't want to marry each other? The parents might as well marry each other. It also says in the article that, "...commitment is the strongest advantage for those who are going for an arranged marriage." How can you make a commitment with someone you barely know? This is the same as asking a homeless man to hold $200 for a second. Commitment follows trust and it's necessary to gain trust with someone before claiming them as your soulmate. In an arranged marriage you are forced to love a stranger you just met and you know nothing about them. Losing the freedom and privilege of loving and marrying whoever is a big insult to human rights. Not being able to go on romantic dates to get to know each other and to gain respect and a strong sense of passion for each other, if there is any. The parents and in-laws, who chose the marriage, will most likely choose any other huge decisions in the couple's life. There is a higher chance of getting a divorce because of lack of interest between the couple. The maturity level comes in when two people find themselves madly in love and decide to marry on their own. Knowing that they'll be together forever, without thier parents commanding them who to marry.
According to the author, Lizette Alvarez, in the article “Arranged Marriages Get a Little Reshuffling”, Arranged marriages are better than modern marriages and parents can choose good mates for young. First, the arranged marriage has changed a lot in modern time. Arranged marriages are more flexible because young people can meet several times in some public venues without family members. Parents and elders have become more lenient. Second, arranged marriages have more advantages than modern marriages. Arranged marriages can preserve religion and identity and help people to find their mates in the same social class. Arranged marriages can outlast modern marriages because couples can avoid social and religions disharmony. Finally, young people prefer arranged marriage to modern marriage. Young people would spend less time to find their mate because their parents, chat rooms and dating websites help find mates for them. Young people can easily find their mates who have the same education level and social status. As a young person, I do not agree with the author because other people migh...
Arranged Marriages have been around since time can remember. An arranged marriage is a marital union between a man and a woman who were selected to be wedded together by a third party. Historically, arrange marriages were the main way to marry. In certain parts of the world, it is still the primary approach. There are two types of arrange marriages. The first is a traditional marriage where the children can, with strong objections, refuse to marry their soon to be spouse. In a forced marriage, the children have no say in the matter. Bread Givers shows an excellent representation of the pressures on children from their parents to be married against their will.
Let me start with the fact that Mac is lonely. He whines all the time, you even say so yourself. Well, that is simply because, as www.dogbreed.info.com puts it, dogs are pack animals, meaning they have an instinct to live among a group. It is not natural for dogs to be alone and it can sometimes be hard for them to accept it. Yes, I’ve done my research. It would be such a help to animals if we adopted them. If we did this, we would also benefit. I have a list of the steps you need to take to complete an adoption at EDCR.
However, there is evidence of a positive correlation between love and the length of an arranged marriage (Epstein, Pandit, & Thakar, 2013). Furthermore, the authors summarized previous research findings in which researchers found arranged marriages had a higher level of satisfaction than love marriages in modern civilizations. The fact that both of these trends have come up shows that some western arguments against arranged marriages are founded upon inaccurate

“The pair know each other well, before they are going to be husband and wife” (Source A). This proves that the couple will have a strong bond before and after they get married. In Source B, Kargara Afghani girl, “forced” into arranged marriage and stated that her marriage had started off miserably with her husband not trusting her. If this was a love marriage this would not happen because they wouldn’t be in love if they didn’t trust each other. In Source C,Mangili a Indian girl, was also placed into an arranged marriage. Her husband had heard rumors that she was alongside another man but she wasn’t and he didn’t trust her even though she told the truth. That’s why people should have an love
As an American citizen, a person should be entitled to marry whoever they choose, regardless of gender or sexual preference. Gay marriage is something that some people consider to be taboo while other people are very supportive of it; I am one of the latter. The ability to marry someone is a basic human right and it should not be taken away from someone because they love a person of the same gender. One of the main reasons that gay marriage is illegal in the United States is because of what the Bible says about it, regardless of the fact that the first Amendment of the US Constitution says that there is to be a separation between church and state. Approximately three point eight percent of the United States population is made up of people
On one hand, in arranged marriages the family of the person chooses the best candidature for marriage because the family wants to create a good couple which will match and the families of men and women are making their choice according to number of benefits it can give. “Many Indians look at marrying a person they don’t know, gives one “a lifetime to learn to love them”, as opposed to the American ideal of learning a person inside and out before entering into marriage. It can be said that an arranged marriage in India is not based on feelings, but rather on commitment” (Debashish, 2013). So this king of building the relations is also taking the feelings into account but the rat...
Imagine you have just found the person of your dreams, your soulmate, the one you're meant to be with, but you can't marry them.
Have you ever discovered something so erroneous about the person you chose to date and you felt you needed to breakup immediately? Seems simple enough. Now imagine if you were married and discovered this crudeness.
Marriage equality rights have come a long way over the last several year, however there is still more progress to be made. Achieving gay marriage rights across the nation has been a long fight and has caused quite a great deal of controversy. While more and more people, churches, organizations, businesses, etc. are all starting to support the movement, thousands of them still do not. While achieving the goal of marriage rights in the LGBT community may seem never ending, it’s important to recognize the small wins along the way.
Domestic violence is an issue that has affected many people regardless of age, race, or gender. The seriousness of it can vary dramatically. Domestic violence is the intentional intent to physically and/or sexually assault, batter, or has abusive tendencies against a sibling, parent, child (ren), or domestic partner. The overwhelming emotional, psychological, and physical ramifications of domestic violence can cross generations and last a lifetime. Bringing an end to abuse is not a matter of the victim choosing to leave; but the victim being able to evade their abuser safely. Establishing, I Choose Life Organization, gives those victims a safe haven to get back that confidence and self-respect that they lost due to their abuser.
Arranged marriages have been around for a while and they still are. In some countries arranged marriages are actually tradition but it is wrong to arrange a marriage for necessity instead of love. Did you know that arranged marriages can be annulled? You can legally annul your arranged marriage with a legal court session. With arranged marriages, you hurt your children more than help them. By marrying them at a young age, they don't get much education. Arranged Marriages are cruel because people deserve the choice of who they marry and a chance of love.
The chapter with the topic that interested me the most in this Sociology course was the one dealing with marriages. I thought it was interesting to see how marriage can take on so many different meanings depending on what country or culture a person belongs to. To most people, especially here in the US, marriage is usually the union of two adults (usually heterosexual) who are in love with each other. This means that the two individuals get to choose who they want to be their future husband or wife. However, in India, it is not an uncommon practice to marry a person that your parents have approved/chosen for you.
Love marriages and arranged marriages can both be justified, and they can both be disagreed upon for good reasons. The culture is what defines each marriage, supporting one belief or another. Although both can be justified, the definition of the two marriages are very different, Regardless of the way of marriage, they are very common. Having introduced to your better half unintentionally may be a love marriage but a third party still played a role in it makes it an arranged
