What is marriage? Marriage is the legal or formal recognition of a union between two people. Marriage symbolizes the love of two people until death do them part. Marriage is a risk people take despite the various odds against it. People get married for a variety of reasons, such as religious beliefs, societal pressure, and obligations. It has been recorded that the first marriage took place about 4,000 years ago in Mesopotamia. Throughout history marriage has been a symbol of power. In certain traditions it is custom for families to arrange marriages for couples. In an arranged marriage individuals do not get to choose who they marry . Arranged marriages are usually in the western countries. Typically arranged marriage are not forced, but the parents would usually choose their son or daughter’s future spouse with only little information of the person. If their child does not agree with the person they have chosen, the parents tend to respect their wishes and find someone else for them.
